China is doing its best to help people control (控制) their weight and live a healthy life. It starts a three-year “Weight Management Year” plan from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity (肥胖). Obesity can cause serious health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Here’s what you should know about the plan.
First, it’s important to check your BMI (Body Mass Index). For adults (成年人), a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are overweight. A BMI of 28 or more means you are obese.
For exercise, try to do 150–300 minutes of activities like walking, cycling, or dancing every week, and do strength exercises twice a week. If you sit for a long time while studying, stand up and stretch for 3–5 minutes every hour.
Besides exercise, small daily habits can also make a big difference. Teens should sleep 7 hours every night because bad sleep can make you get weight soon.
Schools and communities are also helping. For example, schools in Shanghai now make sure students exercise for at least two hours every day, and hospitals have “weight clinics” with diet plans and exercise advice. By 2030, China hopes to slow down the increase of obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about being perfect. Just start with small changes, like drinking water instead of soda or taking the stairs instead of the elevator (电梯). With these easy steps, everyone can have a healthier future.
38.If your BMI is 22, you are ________.
A. obese B. overweight C. healthy D. underweight
39.How often should people do strength exercises
A. Twice a week. B. Once a week. C. Twice a month. D. Every day.
40.Why does the writer mention “drinking water instead of soda”
A. To show why soda is not healthy.
B. To tell people to start with small changes.
C. To show exercise is better than soda.
D. To tell people losing weight is very difficult.
41.What is the best title for the passage
A. Health Problems of Obesity
B. Useful Ways to Check BMI
C. Reasons for Healthy Bodies
D. China’s Weight Management Year plan
D
