The teacher shows a video introducing Xi'an to enhance the students' cultural literacy.

Ask the students to have a group discussion on the following questions.

Ask the students to read Richard's email to his friend and the brochure that he found. Then answer the question: Do you think his plan sounds interesting Why
Suggested answer:
Yes, it sounds quite interesting. The Terracotta Army is a national treasure and one of the largest and most important archaeological finds in the world.
No, I don't think his travel plan sounds interesting. It only covers historical sites without natural scenery or local snacks, and the tight schedule leaves no time for rest. Besides, it fails to include nearby attractions like Huashan Mountain, making the trip lack variety.
②Read for structure.

The Shaanxi History Museum interests him and his dad because it is praised as a "Chinese treasure house" full of history. The ancient Xi'an City Wall is also a well-known local sight worth sightseeing.
What surprising facts about the Terracotta Army can we learn from the brochure
Suggested answer:
First, more than 8,000 clay statues were made in the third century BCE to guard Emperor Qin Shihuang's tomb, and every statue has a unique face modeled on real ancient soldiers. Second, over 700,000 workers spent nearly 40 years building the huge tomb, which still hasn't been fully unearthed. Most surprisingly, modern people knew nothing of the army until 1974, when farmers accidentally found them while digging a well.

My time in England is going wonderfully! My new school is amazing, and all the teachers and classmates are so friendly.
