Have you ever heard that you should drink eight glasses, or about two liters of water every day Lots of
grown-ups try to drink so much water to stay healthy. But guess what Scientists have found that there isn’t a
magic number of glasses of water that’s perfect for everyone.
In a big study, researchers checked out 5,600 people, from little kids who are just a week old to
great-grandparents who are 96 years old! They wanted to find out about “water turnover,” which is an interesting
way of saying how much water goes into our body and then comes out (like when we go to the bathroom). They
discovered that everyone is different when it comes to how much water they need. This can depend on things like
how old you are, how long you run and play, and whether you’re a boy or not. For example, young men around 20
to 35 years old need almost twice as much water as men who are in their nineties!
Also, the scientists noticed that people who are really active and move around a lot need more water than
people who don’t exercise much. And here’s a fun fact: the foods we eat also have water in them!
The people who did this study think that most of us don’t really need to drink eight glasses of water every day.
It turns out that our bodies are pretty good at telling us when we’re thirsty. So, the best thing to do is listen to your
body and drink water when you feel thirsty. And don’t forget that having fun is also a great way to stay healthy,
just like drinking water!
21. How does the writer lead into the topic
A. By listing facts. B. By asking a question.
C. By telling a story. D. By giving an example.
22. Which of the following is TRUE about the study
A. It only studied young people.
B. It lasted for almost twenty years.
C. It found people’s need for water is different.
D. It found the older people are, the more water they drink.
23. What can we learn from Paragraph 3
A. Exercising more is the best way to stay healthy.
B. People should eat more fruits that are full of water.
C. The water people need also comes from the foods they eat.
D. Drinking enough water is more important than exercising.
第 5页/共 10页
24. ________ tell us when to drink water.
A. The scientists. B. The teachers. C. Our bodies. D. Our parents.
25. What’s the best title for the text
A. Eight glasses of water a day is perfect!
B. Want to stay healthy Drink more water!
C. When is the best time to drink water
D. Do we really need eight glasses of water a day
C
Many people love travelling to different countries, but if you plan to go abroad, you should know how to
behave in different situations around the world.
①________
Most travellers enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes you can be rude without knowing the customs when
people first meet. In Russia, you should never shake hands in the doorway. When the Japanese meet new people,
they like giving business cards, but you should read the card carefully, not just put it in your pocket.
②________
In most countries in Europe, people expect a lot of eye contact when you talk to them, but in many Asian
countries a lot of eye contact seems unfriendly. And in China, people usually stand quite close to each other when
they talk, but in countries like the USA you need to give people more personal space.
③________
In restaurants in China, you can leave a bit of food on your plate. It’s OK to start smoking before other people
finish eating, which you mustn’t do in the UK. When in India, remember to eat with your right hand. Also avoid
leaving empty bottles on the dinner table in Russia—that’s too bad.
④________
When you are travelling in Asia, if someone invites you to his or her home, don’t forget to take off your shoes
when you arrive. And if you visit an Arab family’s home, don’t admire anything valuable because your host will
feel he should give it to you as a present.
With so much to think about, it’s not surprising that many people prefer going on holiday in their own
countries, or they might just decide to stay at home! But anyway, wherever you go, please remember, you should
respect the customs there and try to get used to the life there.
26. What is the theme of the passage
第 6页/共 10页
A. Friends. B. Plans. C. Customs. D. Feelings.
27. Match the title with each paragraph (Paragraph 2-Paragraph 5).
a. Showing people’s love. b. Visiting a family.
c. Meeting new friends. d. Face-to-face communication.
e. Shaking hands. f. Table manners.
A. ①→e, ②→a, ③→f, ④→b B. ①→c, ②→a, ③→f, ④→d
C. ①→c, ②→d, ③→f, ④→b D. ①→e, ②→d, ③→f, ④→c
28. Which of the following statements is true
A. In India, people eat with their left hand.
B. In Arab, we can admire something valuable in people’s home.
C. In Russia, it’s impolite to shake hands with people in the doorway.
D. In the USA, people usually stand quite close to each other when they talk.
29. What does the writer want to tell us
A. Practice makes perfect.
B. Actions speak louder than words.
C. Where there is a will, there is a way.
D. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
30. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage

Very glad to share one of my social practice activities with you.
On July 9th, 2025, I volunteered at Huangshi Museum with my classmates. Our main task was to introduce
exhibits to visitors patiently. Besides, we read traditional Huangshi historical stories to them. Through this activity,
I not only learned much about local history but also improved my communication skills. Although I was tired, I felt
very proud and happy because I could help others. It was really a meaningful experience. I hope you can have such
a chance too.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Ming
