A simple sentence is made up of one independent clause which has one subject-verb combination.
简单句由一个包含一个主谓组合的独立分句组成。
简单句五种基本类型:
1.主语+不及物动词 (S+V)
2.主语+连系动词+表语 (S+V+P)
3. 主语+及物动词+宾语 (S+V+O)
4.主语+及物动词+间宾+直宾 (S+V+IO+DO)
5.主语+及物动词+宾语+宾补 (S+V+O+C)

1. S + V(主语 + 不及物动词,无宾语)
谓语动词后面不能直接加宾语,可加状语(地点 / 时间)
例句:Many teens struggle.(许多青少年在苦苦拼搏。)
He grows up.(他长大了。)
2. S + V + P(主 + 系 + 表)
系动词 + 表语(名词/形容词,用来描述主语)
系动词:be 动词 (am/is/are/was/were);感官:look/sound/smell/taste/feel;变化:become/get/grow/turn
例句:I feel upset.(我感到心烦。)
Her dream is a clear target.(她的理想是明确的目标。)

3. S + V + O(主谓宾)
谓语是及物动词,后面必须接宾语
例句:We desire more freedom.(我们渴望更多自由。)
I set a study target.(我定下学习目标。)
4. S + V + IO + DO(主谓双宾:人 + 物)
动词后接间接宾语 (人) + 直接宾语 (物)
常用:give/buy/tell/send
例句:Parents buy us useful books. = Parents buy useful books for us.
(父母给我们买有用的书。)

5. S + V + O + OC(主谓宾补)
宾补用来补充说明宾语,无宾补句子意思不完整
常用动词:ask/let/make/want/expect
例句:Parents expect us to achieve targets.
(父母期盼我们达成目标。)

A compound sentence contains two or more main clauses. We use linking words such as and, or,but, so or for to link the clauses.
并列句包含两个或更多主句。我们使用连接词,如and、or、but、so或for来连接这些句子。
1. 表并列、顺承关系
常用:and、both…and…、not only…but also、neither…nor等
例句:We communicate patiently, and we solve family conflicts.
(我们耐心沟通,并且化解家庭矛盾。)
2. 表转折、对比关系
常用:but、yet、while等
例句:I want more free time, but my parents arrange extra lessons.
(我想要更多空闲,但父母安排了补课。)

常用:or、either…or…、otherwise、or else等
例句:Finish your homework, or you will get scolded.
(写完作业,不然你会挨批评。)
4. 表因果关系
常用:so、therefore、for(不能放句首,补充说明原因)等
例句:She cries often, for she struggles with great study stress.
(她时常落泪,因为她饱受学业压力困扰。)

A Exploring the rules
A complex sentence contains one main clause and at least one subordinate clause. A subordinate clause can be the subject, predicative, object, attributive or adverbial of the sentence.
复合句包含一个主句和至少一个从句。从句可以充当句子的主语、表语、宾语、定语或状。
复合句:主句独立完整,从句不能单独成句,由从属连词引导、充当句子成分。
结构:主句 + 连词 + 从句
1. 状语从句
例句:I’m upset because parents push me hard.
(我很烦恼,因为父母逼我太紧。)
2. 宾语从句(that/why/how 引导)
例句:I think (that) we need more communication.
(我认为我们需要更多的沟通。)
