When I was in middle school, I met my English literature teacher, who was new to teaching. She was only 22 but she always did her best to make learning fun. She would give us a special mini-notebook for every student’s birthday. I had this simple small notebook. She had filled the first few pages telling me how much she loved having me as a student, how far she knew I would go, and other affirmations. It seemed small but for a 13-year-old child who had a hard home life, it meant a lot!
In my junior year of high school, in one English class, we were discussing a story when one student called Carl made a comment. The teacher was dismissive (不屑一顾的) and said Carl was wrong. The next day, the teacher said he was wrong to dismiss what Carl said so quickly. “Let’s take a look at that again. ” After the discussion, it became clear that Carl’s comment was indeed unreasonable, but I was impressed that the teacher recognized his mistake publicly and did what he should.
When I was in Grade One, my mother gave me one really odd haircut. On the first day back at school, the kids laughed at me, so I ran out and hid. The headmaster found me and took me back. He asked me to wait outside for a minute while he talked to the class. The next day, we had a meeting with the whole school and he walked up on the stage with all his hair cut and criticized (批评) the bad behavior.
Twenty years later, I met him at the local college. I thought he didn’t remember me, but he said my name and the event. He was and is a hero in my eyes.
24. What does the underlined word “affirmations” in Paragraph 1 mean
A.Orders. B.Suggestions. C.Encouragements. D.Descriptions.
25. What can we learn from Paragraph 2
A.Carl read a new story to the class before discussion.
B.The author was impressed by the teacher’s teaching method.
C.The English teacher made an immediate apology to Carl in class.
D.Carl’s comment wasn’t paid much attention by the teacher at first.
26. Which of the following best describes the headmaster
A.Honest and brave. B.Patient and organized.
C.Funny and strict. D.Kind and respectable.
27. Where can you probably read this passage
A.In a life column. B.In science fiction.
C.In a fashion magazine. D.In a guidebook.

Doctors have long known that exercise is a good way to stay healthy. But few people get enough exercise. Only 20% of Americans get the recommended 150 minutes of activity per week. More than 80 million Americans over age 6 are completely inactive. It doesn’t help that many U. S. schools have cut gym classes. Nearly half of high school students don’t have a weekly PE class.
People leading a sedentary (久坐的) life pay a price. They are at higher risk for serious health problems, including heart disease and cancer.
Health experts want to let people know the benefits of exercise. The US-National Institutes of Health (NIH)is playing a key role in the effort. This year, it is carrying out a study. It will record in detail what happens inside a body during a workout. Through its research, the NIH hopes to prove scientifically that exercise is good medicine.
The six-year, $170-million project will include a group of about 3, 000 inactive people. The group will begin an exercise program. Their blood and fat will be studied before and after each workout. Scientists will look for clues (线索) to how the body changes with physical activity. A group that doesn’t exercise will also be tracked, for comparison.
Studies show that many good changes happen in the body during and after a workout. One of the best pieces of news is that much of what we already do counts as physical activity. “Sweeping the floor, walking the dog, washing the car — all that is exercise, ” says Jack Berryman. He is a professor at Washington University School of Medicine, in Seattle. “Physical activity includes all movement, not just throwing a ball through a basket. ”
Berryman hopes the NIH study will give doctors the ability to provide patients with a detailed, personal workout plan. In the meantime, here is medicine for good health: Get active!
28. Why did the NIH carry out the research
A.To call on schools to increase PE classes.
B.To prove exercise is good for health.
C.To popularize drug-free living.
D.To help treat serious diseases.
29. What can we infer from Jack Berryman’s words
A.Doctors should give patients more detailed advice.
B.The basketball game is strongly recommended.
C.All movement can be regarded as exercise.
D.More daily work should be encouraged.
30. How is the study by NIH conducted
A.By doing a survey. B.By making interviews.
C.By making predictions. D.By making comparison.
31. What is the best title for the text
A.The best medicine. B.Ways to do exercise.
C.Changes in the body. D.An active life in the US.

Adaptation and innovation (创新) of traditional opera is a major trend in modern Chinese opera circle. As times change, traditional opera has gradually lost its elderly audience and failed to appeal to young people. To attract the new generation, the opera circle is working to create updated works.
Facing an aging audience, Peking Opera has adopted modern sound, light and digital stage effects to attract young people in creative ways.
The centuries-old Tianleyuan Theater in Beijing now presents fashionable Peking Opera performances. It combines music, vocal skills, mime, dance and acrobatics. According to Deng, innovation is perhaps the best way for jingju to deal with the problem of an aging audience. It has made successful attempts to combine jingju with local opera forms such as ballet when organizing performances abroad. “Innovation can help traditional arts go further. We are happy to see many young faces, and some of them even come twice to experience the ‘new’ art, ” she added.
32. Why is adaptation and innovation of traditional opera important
A.To run after fashion. B.To draw the young audience.

33. Which of the following can best describe Tianleyuan Theater
A.It stays away from new art styles. B.It pays little attention to young viewers.

Maria and Peter lived in a coastal city. The greatest pleasure in summer for them was to swim at their local beach after school. But one day they started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters. More often than not, they would find plastic bags thrown on the beach. Worse still, as they swam in the water, some plastic bags would float around them and even stick to their legs when they walked to the shore.
They were upset and decided something needed to be done to stop the beautiful sea becoming consumed by waste. One weekend, Maria and Peter brought a big bag to the beach and determined to clean it up. Sweat streamed down from their forehead while they bent down and picked up the plastic bags. To their disappointment, after a day’s hard work, there were still many plastic bags lying on the beach or floating in the water. Going home with aching legs and arms, Maria and Peter were almost defeated by a strong sense of failure.
That night over dinner with their parents, the pair ate silently. Noticing their low spirits, Mother asked gently, “You two looked so down. What happened ”Exchanging glances with Peter, Maria replied in a low voice, “It’s those annoying plastic bags. We tried to clean up but it was just impossible. ”Understanding the pair’s disappointment, their father patted them on the back and comforted, ”Well, it’s really hard for just two of you to fix such a big problem. ”“Just two of us. ”complained Maria and Peter, looking at each other. Suddenly, an idea flashed through their minds, their eyes shining with excitement. “Yes, that’s the point! We should make more people aware of the problem and encourage them to take action!” the pair said in chorus.

Dear fellow students,
Now AI tools are widely used in our study. They can explain difficult knowledge and collect useful materials quickly, bringing us much convenience.
However, some students rely on AI too much. They even copy AI’s answers directly without thinking, which weakens their independent thinking ability.
We should use AI properly. We can take it as a helper rather than a replacement. Think independently first before turning to AI. Let us make good use of AI to improve ourselves!

续写范文
Quickly finishing their dinner, the pair went upstairs and started planning. They decided to shoot a short video at the beach the next day, recording dirty plastic waste everywhere and the clear contrast of clean sea. Maria wrote an article to tell people the harm plastic bags did to sea creatures. Peter edited the video with soft background music and warm words calling on everyone to protect the coast. They planned to share them online to spread their voice.
Excited and nervous, they posted the video and article on WeChat. The post spread fast. Many local residents commented that they would stop using disposable plastic bags and join beach cleaning activities. Every weekend, crowds of volunteers came to clear rubbish together. Gradually, plastic waste on the beach disappeared. Maria and Peter felt proud that small efforts could bring great changes to their beloved sea.
