Experts (专家) say dads can do more to help their kids.

“How are you ” “I’m fine, thanks, and you ” In the US and the UK, greeting someone often starts with “Hi, how are you ” This can be confusing (令人迷惑的) for people from other countries. They might think the question needs a serious (严肃的) answer or that it means the person wants to talk more.
In fact, people in the US and the UK often just want to be friendly, even with those they don’t know. Most people want a quick answer like “I’m fine, thanks, and you ” or “I’m good, thanks!” before moving on. British and American cultures (文化) want people to be open, positive (积极的) and friendly.

If you are greeting someone older than you, it’s polite (礼貌的) to use their family name. For example, you might say, “Hello, Mr. Green”, or “Hello, sir”, if you don’t know the person’s name.
If you meet friends, you could use “Hi, mate” and “Alright, buddy”. Sometimes, friends will greet each other like “Yo” (Hello) or “Howdy” (How do you do ). It is also usual to use compliments (赞美) when you greet each other, like saying “Wow, I like your hair today” or “Hey, I like your shirt”.

In early times, parents taught their kids about hunting (捕猎), farming and cooking. As time went by, more and more people began living together in towns (城镇). They had a new idea—maybe (或许) one teacher could teach many kids at the same time. 47
Ancient (古代) schools
The word “school” comes from an old Greek (希腊的) word, and it meant “free time”. 48 In places like ancient Greece, Rome and China, only kids from rich families could go to school.
First modern schools
About 200 years ago, a man named Horace Mann in the US had a big dream. He believed every child should go to school and learn. And he started “common schools (公立学校)”. 49 Kids from different families sat together in one classroom.
Today science is developing (发展) quickly. The word “school” may take on a new meaning in the future. With the help of AI, students don’t need to sit in a classroom to learn. 50 Students may live in different places or come from different families. But every child can get his own learning plan that fits his interests.

Our teacher, Mr. Miller, starts every meeting with the same rules (规则) : “No grades, no homework. Just share your stories.” He says these help us to feel relaxed (放松的), and it really works.
Then the storytelling begins. First up is Jake. He tells a lively story about Simba from the film The Lion King (《狮子王》). He speaks clearly and even imitates (模仿) the lion’s acts. It’s almost like watching the movie! Then it’s Leo’s turn. Leo is usually quiet in class. But he speaks here with great confidence (自信) . He shares a warm story about finding a lost cat and giving it a home. His happy smile makes everyone feel good.
Sometimes, Mr. Miller takes us to different places. We go to the library for new books, or the Old People’s Home to tell stories. Last week, I told a story about my dog running after a bird and falling into the water. All the old people laughed. That made me feel very happy.
Mr. Miller always says. “Everyone has a story, and everyone can tell.” This idea is at the heart of our club. When someone can’t remember their words, we wait quietly; if someone is nervous (紧张的), we give them warm smiles. Because of this, everyone gets better at telling stories. I also learn to be kind from listening. Wednesday is my favorite day of the week.
