How to Write Your Own Poems
Many writers enjoy writing poems because there are no real rules. You can try it too. (1)
Read works by others
Reading works by other poets can help you find what kinds of poetry you might enjoy writing. Ask your teacher for suggestions, or go to your local library and ask a librarian to show you the poetry area.
(2)
When you think about what to write, you can start by watching what is around you or thinking about what you love. It can be anything, such as a favourite pet or a special place you have visited. You can also get inspiration (灵感) from things that matter to you, such as protecting our planet.
Learn about different forms
In rhyming poems, some lines share the same ending sounds. For example, in a Jueju, a traditional Chinese form of poetry, each line has five or seven characters (汉字), and the whole poem usually has four lines. The second and fourth lines often rhyme with each other. Besides rhyming poems, there is also free verse (自由诗体). In free verse, you can choose to rhyme or not rhyme. Its lines are more like everyday speech and follow no fixed rules. (3)
Start writing and improving
Keep a small notebook or a note on your phone that is used just for writing down your thoughts. Write down anything that catches your eye, from colours to sights to sounds. Once your poem is finished, put it away for a day. (4) Then look at it again and make any changes until you are happy with your work.
Share it with someone
After you finish, read your poem to a family member or a teacher. Saying a poem out loud brings it to life. You may also find that other people can understand and connect with your poem.
(5) Writing poems is a great way to show yourself and share your world with others. So, pick up your pen and let your creativity flow today!

Outdoor hiking is a great way to exercise and get close to nature. But we need to learn basic hiking skills to keep safe. Here are some easy and useful rules for hiking.
1. Pre-Hiking Preparation
Before you go hiking, check the weather, the road situation and your own health. It is important to get well prepared. First, prepare walking sticks to protect your knees and walk safely. Besides, take a light comfortable bag for your things and wear soft safe sports shoes. Also, do not wear cotton clothes. They hold water and make you cold easily. Choose dry, warm and wind-proof (防风) ones. What’s more, bring basic food and enough water. Also, take small things such as medicine, a hat, sunglasses and extra socks. Remember to do some warm-up exercises before hiking to relax your body.
2. Rules for Hiking on the Way
First, hike with friends and walk slowly. Second, stand to rest when tired. Don’t sit or take off your bag. Rest with your group. Besides, drink small amounts of water often and never drink too much at a time. When going up hills, lean your body forward, take short steps and use walking sticks to save energy. When going down hills, bend your knees, walk slowly and never jump. Last but not least, keep to the main road and never walk alone in new places.
3. Easy Ways to Find Directions
First, you can use the sun: it rises in the east and sets in the west. Put a stick into the ground and mark its shadow (标记阴影) twice, then the middle of the two marks points north. Next, check plants: tree rings (年轮) are wider and hill plants grow better on the south, while bamboo looks greener and thicker on the south. What’s more, look for the North Star at night; find the Big Dipper first, and the bright star always shows north.
In short, hiking is a wonderful outdoor activity. With good preparation and safe habits, we can enjoy the beauty of nature and protect ourselves well during every hiking trip.

A man lived next to a forest. A naughty (顽皮的) monkey often came to his garden to eat fruits and play. It liked swinging in trees, picking fruits, and making funny faces at the man’s children. The man sometimes felt angry and wanted to drive the monkey away. However, his children always stopped him, because they thought the monkey was cute and brought them joy.
One day, the house was very quiet. The monkey went into the yard quietly and looked through the window. It saw the man’s little girl lying in bed. She looked pale and tired. Instead of being angry, the man kindly asked the monkey to cheer up his daughter. The monkey acted funny and made noises. For the first time in days, the little girl smiled a little.
Soon a doctor came. He checked the girl carefully and said she had a bad illness. The only special medicine to save her was tiger’s tears. Tigers were hard to get close to, and they almost never cried. Everyone felt helpless. But the kind monkey decided to try its best to save the girl.
The monkey tried many ways to make the tiger cry. It begged (乞求) the tiger, played with its tail, and even used onions, but all failed. Later, the monkey had a good thought. It told a big bear a lie: a heavy wind was going to blow the bear away. The monkey asked the bear to hold a tree, then tied the bear with long plant ropes. When the tiger saw the silly bear, it could not stop laughing. Soon, tears ran down its face. The monkey ran to use a coconut shell (椰子壳) to collect the tears at once.

Do you care about the future of rainforests Can destroyed forests turn green again Will wild animals go back to their old homes Many people worried about these things in the past. The latest research (研究) in 2026 brings us good news. Rainforests have great power to recover (恢复), and human protection can help them live better.
Rainforests are very important to our Earth. They cover less than 6 percent of the planet’s surface, but they protect more than half of the world’s living animals. In the past, in order to build farms or get wood, people often cut down many rainforest trees. This did great harm to nature. Scientists once believed that broken rainforests needed more than 100 years to get well again.
However, new studies show a much better result. Rainforests can recover far faster than we thought. After people stop harming the land, tall trees still need a long time to grow. Yet, this does not stop the rainforest from recovering. While the big trees are still growing, smaller plants and bushes cover the ground in a short time. As a result, most animals can come back within 30 years. Birds and monkeys from nearby forests bring seeds and help new plants grow. This helps the forest recover soon. Their fast recovery gives us huge hope. Sadly, some bacteria (细菌) in the land will die out forever. That means some harm cannot be fixed.
Thankfully, global protection work is getting better now. According to 2026 reports, the loss of rainforests in 2025 fell by 36 percent compared with 2024. Countries like Brazil and Colombia made strict rules to save the Amazon rainforest. Though hot weather and fires still hurt the forests, human actions will work very well.
62.What is the main purpose of the text
A. To explain how rainforests got badly hurt.
B. To introduce laws for protecting rainforests.
C. To talk about the animals living in rainforests.
D. To show rainforests can recover and need protection.
63.The underlined word “this” in the second paragraph refers to ________.
A. cutting down rainforest trees B. protecting the living animals
C. building farms or getting wood D. covering 6 percent of the surface
64.How does the writer feel about rainforests’ future
A. Worried. B. Hopeful. C. Bored. D. Unsure.
65.What will the writer talk about next
A. How rainforests will recover.
B. Why rainforests are important.
C. What dangers rainforests will face.
D. What we can do to protect rainforests.

66.2026 is the 90th year of the great success of the Long March. To remember this great event, 30 young people from Macao went to Ruijin, Jiangxi. It is the starting point of the Long March. They walked along the old Red Army paths and visited historic sites (历史遗址). For most of them, this trip was a new and eye-opening experience.
The Long March took place from 1934 to 1936. The Red Army had to cross China to stay safe from the enemy. More than 86,000 soldiers started the long journey. They climbed 18 snow mountains and crossed 24 rivers. They also walked through dangerous swamps (沼泽). When they reached safety, over 40,000 soldiers lost their lives for the country.
How did the Red Army succeed (成功) against so many difficulties The answer lies in their strong will. They carried heavy things like guns, blankets and cooking pots. They slept in the open air and ate wild plants. They were hungry and cold, but they never gave up. The soldiers’ strict rules and team work also helped them win the victory (胜利).
Today, over 600,000 people visit the old Long March sites every year. Young people learn about the Long March in new ways. Some watch 5D movies about it. Some join “living-history walks”. They sleep on the ground and eat basic meals, just like the Red Army did. These activities help them understand how hard the life was for the soldiers.
Even today, the Long March still teaches us something important. A guide said, “The Long March was full of hard times, but it was also full of hope.” The Long March spirit goes on lighting the way for students as they meet difficulties in life.

Dear all,
It’s my great honor to introduce a treasure from China here.
I’d like to talk about paper-cutting. I choose it because it is an ancient art form that expresses our love for life, and it is also fun to learn.
Last year, I took a class to learn it. My teacher told us to follow the steps carefully and take care with every cut. At first, I made many mistakes, but I kept practising. Finally, I made a beautiful flower for my grandma.
This experience tells me that practice makes perfect. It helps me understand our culture better. I feel proud to share this amazing Chinese treasure with you.Sample 2
Dear all,
It’s my great honor to introduce a treasure from China here.
I’d like to talk about Chinese kites, a fantastic traditional folk art. It has a long history.
Last spring, my grandpa spent a whole day teaching me to make a kite. We prepared thin bamboo and stuck colourful paper together carefully. It was harder than I expected. I made several small mistakes at first. In the end, I made it and flew the kite outdoors.
This unforgettable experience helps me know more about traditional Chinese art. I am proud of our wonderful cultural treasure. I also hope more young people can learn about kites and keep this old art alive.
