A
Five-year-old twins (双胞胎) Phoebe and Gracie, together with mum Nicole, tried to hide (藏) the painted stones around Wisbech in Cambridgeshire. They planned to paint stones and hide them around the town for people to find. Although the idea sounds small, it brings fun to many local people.
“The girls felt so excited when they hid the stones on the way to school,” Nicole said.
Her daughters said there was a little bit of disappointment if the stones were still there on the walk home, but sometimes the children were really excited when they found that someone took the stone to hide it somewhere new.
At the beginning, Nicole came up with the idea of drawing fruit on stones so she could help her daughters play cooking games in their outdoor toy kitchen.
“Then I thought, we could make this bigger,” she said.
Nicole set up an online group encouraging people to find the stones, take pictures of them, hide them somewhere else, and spread the love. There are a number of similar groups across the UK with a growing number of members.
“We want to try to spread as much love around Wisbech and around other areas and we just want to try to make it big,” said Nicole.
Nicole said they planned to go to other Fenland towns such as March and Chatteris.
“I thought I could make a bit of a difference with other people,” said Nicole. “There’s a lot of things going on in the world and I just thought we should be friendly and active. We’re all living here and we need to support each other. I want to use the painted stones to spread happiness and love.”

C. Children learn life skills by playing hiding stones.
D. Group activities can bring the local people closer.

Now most middle school students begin to think about their future life. They often want to know what jobs they will take later and what things they should do to make their dreams come true. Some students want to be doctors, while some hope to become teachers or engineers. In fact, making a clear and proper plan is the first important step to make the dreams come true. It is easy to feel lost and waste time if you can’t plan well. Here are some ways to help you get ready.
Know Your Interests and Abilities.
Do you enjoy drawing Are you good at math Do you love helping people Your interests and abilities can guide you to choose the right way. For example, if you like writing and are good at language, you might want to be a writer. If you enjoy working with animals, you can think about becoming a worker at an animal shelter. Knowing what you are good at helps you make better choices.
Set Clear and Achievable Goals(目标).
Never set goals that are too difficult to finish in a short time. It is wise to make small simple goals first. These little goals can help you grow little by little and build up your self-confidence day by day. Small achievements will make you feel proud and ready for bigger challenges(挑战).
20
A perfect plan means nothing if you never carry it out. You can check your work every week or every month. When you find you cannot keep up with your plan, you can change some parts to make it fit you better.
Keep Active and Never Give up Easily.
You will surely meet trouble and can’t make progress on your way to dreams. Success (成功) never comes in a short time. You need plenty of time and hard work. Learn from your mistakes and keep moving on.
Think ahead and get ready to run your own life. Be a hard-working person who does the job well. Start your own plan right now, and you will get closer to your dreams soon.

One morning, I got up early and planned to make an apple pie for my mother. I asked my grandma for useful advice and learned to make fruit jam by watching a short TV show. I took great care of every small step and felt quite excited all the time. I loved doing these little things so much that I did not know three hours had passed. Although the pie looked terrible and was not that delicious, Mum ate it up and told me it was the best pie that she had ever had. For the first time, I understood that although I didn’t make the pie successfully, I really enjoyed the process (过程).
In fact, the process matters more than we think. It can bring us more important things than the final result (结果). We can get fresh new experiences, make our personal skills better and build closer ties with people around us in the process. If we just concentrate on (专注于) the result and do not enjoy the process, we will feel upset and choose to give up easily. In this way, we can never truly know the real meaning of success.
Nowadays, many people try to be more successful or better than others in busy daily life. It is not easy for them to enjoy their own process. Then how can we solve this problem
First, don’t look at others and think you are not good enough. Everyone is different, and people have different ideas of success. For some, success means being famous, while for others, maybe they hope to keep healthy or live a peaceful life. Ride your own ride.
Second, learn to slow down. Do not hope to get quick results all the time and try your best to stay patient. Being too worried will only bring bad feelings. Keep moving ahead slowly and never give up halfway.
Third, give yourself small gifts. You can cut a long task into several easy steps. After finishing each step, give yourself a little gift. Small happiness from these little gifts will help you keep going. For example, when you are keeping fit, you can enjoy your favorite sweet food sometimes.
So, it is a good idea to enjoy every moment on the way, and you will find true happiness and growth.
23.What can we learn from the writer’s experience of making an apple pie
A. Children can learn cooking by themselves.
B. We can make our skills grow in the process.
C. Staying patient can lead to quick results.
D. Finishing a long task can help us keep fit.
24.What do the underlined words “Ride your own ride” mean in Paragraph 4
A. Develop your own abilities. B. Do things in your own way.
C. Learn to ride a bike yourself. D. Work hard to become famous.
25.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A. To tell us to keep moving ahead.
B. To show us how to achieve success.

D. To encourage us to enjoy the process.

There is a moving library in the neighbourhood in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. People enjoy reading at their doorsteps and it brings great help to them.
The moving library is a yellow tricycle with a pink bookcase. The bright color catches people’s eyes easily. On the big bookcase, there are lots of different kinds of books, such as storybooks, picture books and science books. Every weekend, the moving library slowly goes around every corner of the neighbourhood. People can not only give away their old books but also sit down to read books quietly in their free time.
The neighbourhood workers decide to build the moving library because people are often too busy with work or study to go to libraries far away and read books in their daily life. They hope people can slow down their lives and enjoy reading more, instead of spending lots of free time playing with their phones all day.
To start the meaningful moving library project, the neighbourhood workers invited eight friendly families in the neighbourhood to work together as a team. They had a small meeting first and then did lots of work. They carefully designed the style of the mini library, fixed the old tricycle, painted the bookcase with lovely colors, and chose good and right books for kids and adults. Parents and children of these families worked together happily during the project. They talked and helped each other, so they knew each other much better than before.
Now the moving library has hundreds of books. Many people in other communities give away books to the moving library and come to read. “I really enjoy reading here. I often bring my sister with me,” a child said.
However, it is just a tricycle, so there are only a few small seats. When many people come, some have to stand or leave. Also, it works outside and stops running on rainy days.
The moving library is a place to read, learn and relax. Many people like it very much and they say that the moving library brings parents and children closer, and makes the neighbourhood a warmer place.
