From China’s Tai Mountain to America’s Grand Canyon, World Natural Heritage Sites (世界自然遗产地) are valuable gifts from nature to people. But on April 6, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF 世界自然基金会) said more than half of the world’s natural heritage sites are now in danger because of industrial (工业的) development.
Around the world, there are 229 world heritage sites. They are protected either for their amazing natural views or for both natural and cultural values. Among them, 114 are in danger. For example, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and the giant panda protected places in Sichuan, China, are on this dangerous list. Some industrial activities are putting these valuable places at risk.
Marco Lambertini, who leads the WWF International, told Reuters (路透社) a big news company from the UK, “This is terrible. We want to make more people notice this problem. We aren’t against development, but we are against development that is not well planned.”
Now, this charity is actively asking governments (政府) to stop harmful industrial activities in World Heritage Sites and nearby places. It’s also encouraging international companies not to place short-term profits (利润) above the protection of these sites. If we don’t act now, more sites will be in greater danger than they are today. We must spread this message widely to let more people join in the protection.
47. Why are many natural world heritage sites in danger according to WWF
A.Because of fewer valuable gifts from nature.
B.Because of less money from WWF.
C.Because of the dangerous lists from China.
D.Because of industrial development.
48. What can we learn from Marco Lambertini’s words
A.WWF wants people to stop the industrial development around the world.

“I DIDN’T KNOW
best friends could die

If I live long enough to be an adult
and if I have children when I am an adult,
I will tell them.
And I will tell them that sometimes you go to sleep crying
and wake up crying,
and that life after losing someone you love
feels like one big ocean of sorrow (悲伤),
and you might feel like you are drowning (溺死),
but always there is something to hold on to to keep you afloat (漂浮着).”
Above is a part of quotation (引用) from a poem by Sage, who is a 13-year-old student. She has a best friend named Angel, and they do almost everything together. They believe they will grow up together and make their dreams come true.
But Angel died in a sudden car accident on her way to Sage’s 13th birthday. Sage felt very sad because she asked Angel to spend the whole day only with her. She blamed (责备) herself for Angel’s death and couldn’t stop crying at night.
Later, Sage joined a school sadness group. There were five girls in the group, and each had lost someone important. Ebony’s father passed away suddenly, and DD’s brother was killed unfairly. Ana and Zay had time to say goodbye to their family members, but Sage never got the chance. However, listening to their stories, Sage slowly realized she was not alone in her pain.
With the help of her family and friends, Sage slowly started to heal (愈合). One day, Angel’s sister gave Sage a birthday letter written by Angel. In the letter, Angel listed 13 things she loved about Sage. This warmed her heart and brought her much comfort.

①At first, humanoid (人形的) robots were just for exhibition with simple actions. They could not fit in with real environments and had no practical use in our daily life. However, a big change is taking place in China’s robot field. At a busy training center in the western part of Beijing, 1.66-meter-tall humanoid robots are learning useful skills, such as returning empty boxes, sorting, weighing and packing things. They are not just showing off to draw people’s attention. Instead, they are moving from simple lab (实验室) tests to real-life practice, which helps them fit into our daily life better. This change shows that China’s robot technology is developing faster and faster. ▲
②A great example of this change is the robots named Kuavo. They are robots made by Leju Robotics, a famous Chinese high-tech company, and learn very quickly. They can finish practical tasks successfully over 95% of the time. To make them smarter and more practical, Chinese companies send them to practice in many places, including factories, supermarkets and even old people’s homes.
③Many Chinese cities are trying hard to develop humanoid robots. Beijing, Shanghai, Foshan and Mianyang have built large and modern training grounds for these robots. These places can simulate (模拟) different real-life situations, such as factories and home environments, helping robots get more useful data (数据). With these valuable data, they can become better at making correct decisions in daily work and avoid making mistakes easily in real situations.
④Chinese robot companies also share their technology openly with each other. This move helps reduce the time and cost of training robots greatly and pushes the whole industry (产业) to improve. A famous think tank says that by 2045, China will have over 100 million humanoid robots working in different industries. These robots will not only bring huge market value but also make our daily life easier and more comfortable, changing the way we live and work.
55. Which sentence can be probably put in the ▲
A.So people want to know how robots can help in real life.
B.So it’s important for people to learn from other companies.
C.But robots need more time to be smarter in science labs.
D.But some people aren’t very positive about robots’ future.
56. What do cities and companies do to develop humanoid robots according to the passage
① Ask student interns to work with robots in many factories.
② Send robots to real places to get more practical experience.
③ Build modern training grounds to simulate real-life situations.
④ Share technology to cut down robots’ training cost and time.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
57. Which example is similar to China’s way of developing humanoid robots
A.Students study talks from books and practice online with unchanged learning ways.
B.Tennis players learn basic skills, join in different activities and improve their ability.
C.Science researchers do lots of lab tests first, and then write papers about their study.
D.Cooks learn cooking skills at school and cook standard dishes in different restaurants.
58. What can we infer from the passage
A.China has now become the world leader in humanoid robot technology and industry.
B.Chinese robot companies train robots in some specially built simulated environments.
C.Humanoid robots’ practical development needs efforts from governments and companies.
D.China’s humanoid robots will take over most people’s daily work within the next ten years.

Last week we started the “Facing Stress” activity. We asked you to think about the question “How did you deal with your stress ” and share your experiences.
6:17 p.m. 12 April I used to feel stressed about my looks. I cared so much about my appearance that I often worried my classmates would laugh at me. I kept quiet in class and refused to join in any after-school activities. My best friend noticed my trouble and cheered me up. She told me true beauty comes from kindness and confidence, not just looks. I tried to smile more, discover advantages (优点) and accept myself. Now I’m much more outgoing and confident. I realize that real beauty is from inside, not outside.
6:28 p.m. 12 April I always felt stressed about my study. I was weak in math and English, and I feared to fail exams and let my parents and teachers down. I even stayed up late (熬夜) and could not sleep well before tests. My teacher advised me to make a clear study plan, review often, and take short breaks to relax. I kept practicing and never gave up. Little by little, I made progress. Now I’m not afraid of difficulties anymore. I learn that right ways and hard work help beat study stress.
fifteen minutes ago I felt stressed because I was not good at making friends. I was shy and quiet, so I didn’t talk with my classmates or join in group activities. I often stayed alone and felt lonely at school. My class teacher told me to be brave, smile first, and talk about hobbies with others. I tried to be active and help my classmates. Soon I made some true friends. I understand that being warm and brave is the key to making good friends.

Chongqing is a fantastic mountain city where the Yangtze River meets the Jialing River. However, its special geographical features make it easy to suffer from some natural disasters, mainly from heavy rainstorms and floods. Recently, continuous heavy rain has hit the city, and an orange rainstorm warning has been issued (发布). The Nan’an District Press has released (发布) the following tips to help us stay safe.
First, take correct safety actions when heavy rainstorms hit. It is wise to stay indoors as much as possible and cut down all the unnecessary outdoor activities. We must keep clear of windows and all kinds of electrical devices (电器设备) to avoid possible electric danger. If we have to go out, we need to wear full rain gear (装备) and walk slowly and carefully. Also, always stay far away from tall trees and hanging objects to keep yourself from being hit by falling things in stormy weather.
Second, always listen to the weather report before heavy rain comes. If a flood warning is given, move to higher ground right away. Never walk or drive through floodwater, because even fast-moving shallow (浅的) water can knock you down.
Finally, get ready for emergencies. Every family should store emergency supplies at home with food, clean drinking water and medical supplies. Make a family safety plan and choose a meeting place. Practicing safety drills (操练) at home can help everyone take action more quickly.
If we follow these rules, we can protect ourselves better in this beautiful but high-risk city.
