One Saturday in December, Anna Elf, the head of operations at Gothenburg City Library, just happened to walk by her workplace. Noticing that the door was open, she entered the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.
It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved as usual. Many were sitting reading newspapers, some families were in the children’s section and others were searching for books on the computer.
It seemed that Elf’s colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this popular library is usually open on Saturdays, visitors just assumed they could walk in. Elf called to check with her staff team, before announcing to the people present that the library was about to close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library borrowing a total of 246 books during the day. What’s remarkable is that people checked out their books through the library’s electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been returned!
Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.
Elf said, “Nothing was destroyed. It’s amazing that Gothenburgers entered an empty library and treated it so lovingly. “The city leader has even suggested that this unusual Saturday serve as an accidental experiment to analyse the possibility of operating a totally automated library without staff.

A.They consider it fairly normal.

In recent years, a new trend has become common in branding: everyday products such as food, drinks and even tools are given human features, like smiling faces and simple arms and legs. These lively images can now be seen in shops, advertisements and online platforms. They are often bright in color and simple in form, which makes them easy to notice and remember. This raises a question: why are such cartoon-like designs so popular
One reason is their emotional appeal. In a fast-paced and sometimes stressful world, people are naturally drawn to things that are simple and pared with more serious or formal designs, these playful images can make people feel relaxed. By giving human qualities to ordinary objects, brands can create a friendly image and connect more easily with consumers. In this way, products become more engaging and easier to remember, which may influence people’s choices.
Another reason is the inheritance of earlier artistic styles. This kind of design can be traced back to early animation, where characters were drawn with simple shapes and clear expressions. Today’s designers combine these elements with modern tastes, creating images that feel both familiar and new. As a result, such designs are accepted by people of different ages and are widely used in different industries, from food to fashion.
However, the wide use of this style has also caused problems. With the help of digital tools, many businesses can produce similar designs with little effort. In some cases, companies even rely on ready-made templates (模板) instead of original ideas. As a result, different brands may begin to look alike, making it harder for consumers to tell them apart. This may weaken the unique image that a brand tries to build.
Despite these concerns, this trend is unlikely to disappear soon. It reflects people’s desire for simple and enjoyable experiences in modern life. The key issue, therefore, is how such designs can be used in a more creative way, rather than simply copied.
28. Why do cartoon-like designs win consumers’ preference
A.They present a fashionable and serious style.
B.They help consumers judge product quality quickly.
C.They bring people a sense of relaxation and closeness.
D.They keep up with the latest high-tech fashion.
29. What does the underlined word “inheritance” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.fresh invention
B.continuous carrying-on
C.sudden change
D.complete replacement
30. What can be inferred about the appealing design style according to paragraph 4
A.Digital tools effectively promote creative design ideas
B.Template designs can easily win wide public popularity
C.The design trend will disappear soon due to its weaknesses
D.Copying similar designs may weaken or harm brands’ unique identity.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the cartoon-like design trend
A.Fully supportive.
B.Strongly disapproving.
C.Cautiously objective.
D.Totally unconcerned.

For lots of kids, toddlerhood (幼儿期) is an important time for friendship. Studies show that the earlier kids learn to form positive relationships, the better they are at relating to others as teenagers and adults. Playing together also helps these kids practice social behaviors, such as kindness, sharing, and cooperation.
Even so, how quickly your child develops into a social creature may also depend on his temperament (性格). Some toddlers are very social, but others are shy. In addition, the way that toddlers demonstrate that they like other children is markedly different from what adults think of as expressions of friendship. Research at Ohio State University in Columbus found that a toddler’s way of saying “I like you” during play is likely to come in the form of copying a friend’s behavior.
This seemingly unusual way of demonstrating fondness can result in unpleasant behavior. Regardless of how much they like a playmate, they may still grab his toys, refuse to share, and get bossy. But experts say that this is a normal and necessary part of friendship for kids this age. Through play experiences, toddlers learn proper boundaries. That’s why it’s so important to take an active role in your toddler’s social encounters by setting limits and offering frequent reminders of what they are. When you establish these guidelines, explain the reasons behind them.
Begin by helping your child learn sympathy (“Ben is crying. What’s making him so sad ”), then suggest how he could resolve the problem (“Maybe he would feel better if you let him play the ball.”). When your child shares or shows empathy (同理心) toward a friend, praise him (“Ben stopped crying! You made him feel better.”).
Another way to encourage healthy social interaction is by encouraging kids to use words — not fists — to express how they feel. It’s also important to be mindful of how your child’s personality affects playtime. Kids are easy to get angry when they’re sleepy or hungry, so schedule playtime when they’re refreshed.
32. What does it indicate when toddlers copy their playmates’ behavior
A.They are interested in acting.
B.They are shy with the strangers.
C.They are fond of their playmates.
D.They are tired of playing games.
33. What does the author suggest parents do for their kids
A.Design games for them.
B.Find them suitable playmates.
C.Play together with them.
D.Help them understand basic social knowledge and rules.
34. Why does the author use the quoted sentences in Paragraph 4
A.To present specific practical examples.
B.To explain a difficult social concept.
C.To prove the results of earlier studies.
D.To make a clear comparison.
35. What is the best title for the passage
A.Knowledge of Toddlers’ Social Interaction
B.Different Ways Kids Express Personal Feelings
C.Typical Bad Behaviors among Young Children
D.Ways to Build Long-term Friendship for Teenagers

There were only 30 days left for the final PE exam. Jack frowned at his 1000-meter run score, another “Fail”. As the school’s well-known “coding talent,” he could develop practical apps that impressed everyone. But he just couldn’t finish the 1000-meter run. Every attempt ended with burning lungs and he always finished far behind the others, never making the passing grade. The PE teacher’s words struck him hard, “A one-sided life won’t take you far. If you can’t overcome such a small challenge, how will you face tougher ones ” Jack stared at his sneakers, sad and embarrassed.
That afternoon, Jack ran into Leo, the monitor surrounded by piles of handwritten records. “I’ve finally finished sorting this data. It took me hours,” he complained, “One sheet listed a 1000-meter result as 3’45” while another as 225 seconds; some names were written last-name-first, others first-name-last. How I wish there were a tool to collect results directly next time!”
Hearing this, Jack’s eyes lit up. “The PE office has recently been equipped with a set of smartwatches. I can develop a personalized app running on the smartwatches,” he offered excitedly. “When students run the 1000-meter race with the smartwatches on their hands, the app will automatically record their time and other data in a consistent format.”
Later on, Jack devoted all his after-school hours to the app. Having developed the app, he tried to input some data to test whether it functioned properly. However, using the previous handwritten records for testing was trickier than expected and bugs kept popping up. As Jack struggled for a solution, his eyes fell on the PE score sheet and the teacher’s words echoed, “If you can’t overcome such a small challenge…”
Suddenly an idea struck him, “What if I run and collect firsthand data myself ” he thought. “That way, I can test the app in real time and also improve my running performance.” He shared the plan with Leo, who responded with immediate support, “I’ll run with you every step of the way.”

1.续写词数应为150左右;

In the following days, Jack and Leo trained on the playground with the smartwatches on.

五、书信写作范文
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you an environmental protection practice class I had in a city wetland park last Friday.
We spent the whole morning doing voluntary work. We picked up plastic rubbish around the lake and sorted waste into different bins. We also handed out leaflets to visitors to introduce the importance of wetland protection.
This activity left me a deep impression. I realized wetlands are home to many wild creatures. I decide to stick to low-carbon habits and call on more people to protect nature.
Best wishes,
Li Hua
六、读后续写范文
In the following days, Jack and Leo trained on the playground with the smartwatches on. Every afternoon after class, they ran laps together. The app recorded their speed, heart rate and running time accurately. Jack checked the data after each training and adjusted his breathing pace to improve endurance. The bugs in the app were fixed one by one with real running data. Gradually, Jack could run longer without feeling out of breath. He not only perfected his app but also made great progress in running.
Then came the PE exam day and Jack stood at the starting line, calm and ready. As the whistle blew, he kept a steady pace following the data habits he formed during training. When he crossed the finish line, the teacher announced he passed the 1000-meter test easily. Later, Jack’s smartwatch app was adopted by the PE group, helping teachers record students’ sports data conveniently. Jack finally understood that challenging himself brings double gains.
