Come and share your favorite lines from ancient Chinese classics!
“Where is my hometown as the sun sets Misty waves on the river make me homesick.”
Many ancient poets (诗人) wrote poems about the Yellow Crane Tower, but Cui Hao’s is the most moving. It’s said Li Bai gave up writing his own poem after reading it. Cui Hao wrote this poem when he missed his hometown on the tower. The lines fully show people’s strong homesickness when they are far away. (Tom)
“The sinking clouds fly together with the lonely wild duck. The autumn river and the endless sky seem to share the same color.”
The beautiful lines come from Preface (序言) to Tengwang Pavilion by Wang Bo. The lines describe amazing natural views. I love the building so much and I once tried to draw the scenery but made the picture too messy. After watching the natural views carefully again, I finally knew: The best way to draw is to see in person. (Liu Mei)

Nowadays, many students love using headphones. Headphones are really helpful. We can enjoy music or listen to stories without troubling people around us. Lots of students use them at school too. However, headphones are not always good for us. If we turn up the volume (音量) too high, they may hurt our ears and cause hearing loss. A study shows that one out of ten kids in the US has some problems with their hearing, and loud noise is the main reason.
Scientists use decibels (分贝) to measure how loud a sound is. Sounds over 85 decibels are harmful to our hearing. Let’s know some common sounds: Falling raindrops are about 30 decibels, and fireworks are 140 decibels. Most music players can make sounds louder than 100 decibels. For safety, we should set the volume to about half. Besides, do not use headphones for too long. Scientists say listening for about an hour a day is safe for our ears.
Do you know how we can hear sounds Inside our ears, there are small cells (细胞) called hair cells. Sound travels in waves. When sound waves reach our ears, they make hair cells move back and forth, just like leaves moving in the wind. Very loud noise is bad for hair cells. When loud sounds come, the hair cells will rub against the inside of the ear. They will get bent or twisted (扭曲). Worse still, damaged (受损的) hair cells can never regrow, leading to lifelong hearing trouble.
Hearing loss has a clear sign called tinnitus (耳鸣). You will hear a continuous ringing sound in your ears, and this sound will not go away easily. What’s more, hearing problems may also make people feel worried and stressed. To keep our ears safe, we should keep the volume of headphones low all the time.
Our ears have many small parts working together to turn sound into messages for our brain. It is an amazing magic of our body!

43.【答案】 This term, our school held a great theme activity called “Tell Chinese Stories Well in English”.
I took part in the Classic Works Sharing activity. I chose this activity because I loved reading traditional Chinese stories and I wanted to share them with others in English. I told the story of Yu Gong, who moved mountains with his strong will. I prepared for it carefully—I read the story many times, made a PPT and practiced my speech with my classmates. When I finished, everyone gave me warm applause.
I think this activity was not only meaningful but also unforgettable. It helped me understand Chinese culture better and improved my English speaking skills.
