A strong earthquake happened in the north of Syria on 6 Feb, 2023. Many buildings fell down and lots of people died. It is reported that it has been the strongest earthquake in that area over the past 80 years. Do you know how the earthquake happens
As we all know, Earth has many plates (板块). These plates are always moving. When two plates move past each other, there is an earthquake.
Usually, the two plates causing the earthquake in Syria move at about 15 mm every year to each other. But this time, they moved 3-5 metres past each other and sent out great energy (能量). More unluckily, Syria lies in the area where the two plates meet.
Earthquakes can happen from places near Earth’s surface(表面)to places that are about 70 kilometres deep. The closer the earthquake is to the surface, the stronger it is. The earthquake in Syria happened at a place about 18 kilometres away from the surface. This is very close to the surface. That’s why the earthquake in Syria is so serious.
There are about 20 plates on Earth that can move and cause earthquakes. Most earthquakes happen on the plate side. So, when people build houses, they’d better not build them on the plate side.
5.What do we know about the earthquake from the first paragraph
A.It happened in the north of Syria.
B.It happened on the first day of February.
C.Nobody died because of the earthquake.
D.It has been the world’s strongest earthquake in the past 80 years.

B.The different kinds of earthquakes on Earth.
C.The reason why earthquakes happen on Earth.
D.How people will protect (保护) themselves from earthquakes.

Nature can be beautiful, but it can also be dangerous. Taking wildfires as an example. More and more wildfires are burning recently. In the past few years, they have burned millions of hectares (公顷) of land. Since 2023, Canada has experienced over 6,100 wildfires, with a total area of 164,000 square metres burned by wildfires.
Why do wildfires happen Natural factors (因素) such as lightning and high heat can cause wildfires, but four fifths of wildfires are caused by humans. Once a wildfire starts, it will burn anything along the path, such as trees and buildings. Dry weather and strong winds contribute to the spread of wildfires, and their spread speed is very fast, reaching up to 23 kilometres per hour.
So, what should you do to prevent wildfires from happening Firstly, be careful when you are outdoors. Follow fire safety rules in parks and public areas, especially when you are camping. If you are starting a fire outdoors, make sure to completely put it out later. Even though you are very careful, you should be prepared for wildfires.
Wildfires may be scary, but do you know they can actually help forests The fire can kill sick plants and harmful insects. Some animals perform better in areas damaged by wildfires. When trees are burnt down by wildfires, the sunlight will reach the forest floor and help young seedlings (幼苗) grow into new plants.
Wildfires are very dangerous and can cause damage. But they are also a part of the natural world and are good for forests. Therefore, we cannot simply regard them as disasters, and we should consider them properly.

C.What wildfires bring to people D.Wildfires in Canada

Small steps, big growth
As a teenager, I have found that simple daily actions shape my life.
First, I help with housework. I clean my room, wash dishes, and sometimes cook simple meals. These small tasks teach me responsibility and make me more independent. Second, I try to get along well with others. I listen to my classmates, help them when they need, and always speak kindly. Good relationships make school life happier and easier. Third, I have kept reading for a long time. I read books every day, even just for 15 minutes. Reading helps me learn new things and improves my thinking.
