There is an old Chinese proverb that states “One generation plants the trees; another gets the shade,” and this is how it should be with mothers and daughters. The relationship between a mother and a daughter is sometimes confusing. The relationship can be similar to friendship. However, the mother and daughter relationship has unique characteristics that distinguish it from a friendship. These characteristics include a hierarchy (等级) of responsibilities and unconditional love, which preclude mothers and daughters from being best friends.
Marina, 27 years old, said, “I love spending time with my mom, but I wouldn’t consider her my best friend. Best friends don’t pay for your wedding. Best friends don’t remind you how they carried you in their body and gave you life! Best friends don’t tell you how wise they are because they have been alive at least 20 years longer than you.” This doesn’t mean that the mother and daughter relationship can’t be very close and satisfying. This generation of mothers and adult daughters has a lot in common, which increases the likelihood of shared companionship. Mothers and daughters have always shared the common experience of being homemakers, responsible for maintaining and passing on family values and traditions. Today contemporary mothers and daughters also share the experience of work and technology, which may bring them even closer together.
Best friends may or may not continue to be best friends, but for better or worse, the mother and daughter relationship is permanent, even if for some unfortunate reason they aren’t speaking. Sometimes this is not an equal relationship. Daughters don’t always feel responsible for their mother’s emotional well-being. But mothers never stop being mothers, which includes frequently wanting to protect their daughters and often feeling responsible for their happiness. The mother and daughter relationship is a relationship that is not replaceable by any other. Mothers always “trump (胜过)” friends.

A.They share similar work and tech experience.
B.They run family businesses together.
C.They live in the same house all the time.
D.They have the same hobbies in free time.

Long before dinosaurs lived on Earth, the land looked very different from today. Around 500 million years ago, most of Earth’s surface was bare rock and dry soil, and life existed almost entirely in the oceans. Then something amazing happened: plants began to grow on land.
The journey of plants started with simple green algae (藻类), which have lived in oceans for over a billion years. Using sunlight, water and CO , algae produce sugar and oxygen. At first, Earth had little oxygen, but algae changed the environment over millions of years.
The first true land plants appeared 470 million years ago. They grew in shallow water and slowly adapted to dry land, growing firm cell walls and root-like parts to absorb water. Early land plants were tiny, but they turned rocks into soil through weathering, offering food for land animals.
Around 420 million years ago, plants grew transport tubes to carry water, so they could grow taller. 360 million years ago, forests covered large areas. About 380 million years later, seed plants appeared, followed by flowering plants 140 million years ago.
Plant evolution changed the air and soil, creating suitable conditions for all land wildlife. Without the long evolution of plants, there would be no diverse life on Earth today.

B.land plants→algae→forests→flowering plants
C.algae→forests→land plants→seed plants
D.seed plants→algae→land plants→forests

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they are meant to be there… to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You never know who these people may be but, when you lock eyes with them, you know that every moment they will affect your life in a profound way.
And sometimes things happen to you at the time that may seem horrible, painful and unfair but, upon reflection, you realize that without overcoming those hardships, you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower or heart.
Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and absolute stupidity all happen to test the limits of you soul.
Without these small tests, life would be like a smooth, straight, flat road to nowhere. Safe and comfortable but meaningless. The people you meet affect your life. The successes and failures that you experience can create who you are, and the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most important ones.
If someone hurts you, betrays (背叛) you or breaks your heart, forgive them because they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being careful with whom you open your heart to. If someone loves you, love them back, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and open your heart and eyes to little things.
Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are an unique individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you.
A.Form Positive Relationships.
B.Surround Yourself With Honest People.
C.Even a little bit of exercise produces a happiness boost.
D.Focus on practicing gratitude for the things that you have.
E.It may help improve happiness by promoting healthier behaviors.
F.Here are key strategies suggested by researchers to help find happiness in life.
G.The results found people who had written about gratitude had increased positive emotions.

Just over a year ago, my iPhone was lost. My first thought was to replace it. But I stopped myself and asked a question: Does owning a smartphone make my life better, or worse I decided to try living for a time without a smartphone. So I bought an old, $30 phone and began my life without smartphone.
One day after I made the switch, my wife, daughter and I were in Washington visiting a museum. By afternoon, I started acting like a true addict. I used my wife’s smartphone to check Gmail. The beginning rush of seeing so many unread emails was spoiled (破坏) by a work-related message. For the next half-hour or so, I walked around thinking about that message instead of being present at the museum. I was physically there, but my mind was focused on work.
The most immediate advantage of not owning a smartphone, I quickly learned, is the ability to immerse yourself in social situations. Without a smartphone to look at, you don’t have much of a choice but to be present, and other people—whether it’s a colleague or a stranger on social media—can’t enter your life easily at inconvenient times. So I made my short-term experiment permanent.
Do I miss Google Maps Kind of, but I’ve also discovered that not having it makes driving safer. I now check a map before I leave the house and write down basic directions. This keeps me focused on the road rather than the phone. If I get lost, it’s nice to ask people for directions. On the subject of money: My phone bill is now down to $30 a month. I have no data plan, no expensive phone to make payments on, no apps to buy. All of these come from not using a smartphone.

First Aid Training and Demonstration
Last Friday afternoon, our school held a first aid training and demonstration in the school hall. The activity aimed to spread first aid knowledge and improve students’ self-rescue and mutual-aid skills.
Professional medical workers gave us lectures on common accidents. They showed us how to deal with burns, fractures and sudden sickness step by step. Later we were divided into groups to practice the skills with medical models.
I learned lots of practical methods. Mastering first aid can help us save ourselves or others in sudden danger. I hope more similar activities will be held in our school.
