My Favorite Volunteer Activity
My favorite volunteer activity is street clean-up in our community. I took part in it with
my classmates last Saturday morning.
We picked up all rubbish on the sidewalks and sorted plastic and paper waste into
different bins. We also made colourful environmental signs and stuck them on public bins.
This activity brings me special feelings. I learn that small actions can protect our living
environment, and teamwork makes hard work easy.
I will keep joining this volunteer activity every weekend. I plan to ask more classmates
to stop throwing rubbish casually and protect our city together.2025-2026 学年度第二学期学情调研

Many Grade Seven students only spend their free time playing mobile games or watching short
videos, but Li Yao chooses to do meaningful volunteer work in the school plant garden. This
volunteer activity changes her after-school life a lot.
Last term, our school built a small plant garden behind the playground. Teachers asked
students to join the plant care volunteer group, and Li Yao signed up at once. At first, she knew
nothing about growing plants. She often watered the young sunflowers too much, so some small
seedlings turned yellow and nearly died. The garden teacher told her different plants need different

water and sunlight. She took a small notebook to write down every plant’s growing rules, and read
plant books in the library every afternoon to learn more skills.
Every Tuesday and Thursday after school, Li Yao goes to the garden to look after plants. She
pulls out weeds, waters flowers, cuts dry leaves and cleans the garden ground. When she meets
difficult problems, she takes photos of the plants and asks the garden teacher for advice. Slowly, she
masters lots of planting skills. Now all the sunflowers, roses and green vegetables in the garden
grow well.
Li Yao also makes new volunteer friends in the group. Every weekend, they come to the
garden together and share planting experience. They collect leftover fruit peels from students to
make natural plant fertilizer, which is good for the soil and friendly to the environment. They also
make colourful plant name cards for every flower and vegetable, so other students can know their
names and growing habits.
Last month, the school held a “Green Campus” show. Li Yao’s volunteer group showed their
beautiful garden and shared their planting stories on stage. Many students were moved and wanted
to join the volunteer group. Li Yao says taking care of plants teaches her patience and responsibility.

After-school clubs are an important part of students’ school life, both in Chinese and Western
schools. Different countries set up different kinds of clubs for teenagers, and they have different
rules and activity forms.
In most middle schools of China, after-school clubs usually start after 4:30 pm and last for one
hour every weekday. The clubs include sports, art, reading, science, cooking and volunteer groups.
Students can join one or two clubs for free. Teachers lead all club activities, and they will give
students simple skills training. Most Chinese school clubs focus on developing students’ hobbies
and improving their practical skills. For example, cooking club teaches students to make simple
Chinese snacks, and science club lets students do small easy experiments.
In Western middle schools, after-school clubs are more colorful. Besides common sports and
art clubs, there are many special clubs like animal protection, space research, speech and
environmental protection. Most clubs meet twice a week, and some clubs need small fees to buy
activity materials. Different from Chinese schools, many Western clubs invite social workers, artists
and scientists to give lessons instead of only school teachers. Students can also organize small club
activities by themselves without teachers’ help.
There are also same points between Chinese and Western school clubs. All clubs want to help
students relax after busy study, make new friends and develop different hobbies. They teach
students skills that textbooks cannot provide, and help teenagers grow into all-round people.
Now more Chinese schools learn good ideas from Western club systems, such as setting up
animal protection and space clubs. At the same time, Western schools also learn from Chinese
cooking and traditional culture clubs to spread Eastern culture. No matter the differences,
after-school clubs are always a warm place for students to show themselves and enjoy free time.

A. Chinese club systems are much better than Western ones

Traditional Chinese paper-cutting is a world-famous intangible cultural heritage, and
fourteen-year-old Chen Xi falls in love with this old craft deeply. She learns paper-cutting in school
after-school club and shares this traditional art with more people.
Chen Xi’s grandma is a paper-cutting artist in her hometown. When Chen Xi was a little girl,
she watched her grandma cut beautiful paper works every Spring Festival. At that time, she was
interested in the red paper and cute animal patterns, so she asked her grandma to teach her simple
cutting skills. At first, she always cut the paper into broken pieces, and her patterns were ugly and
irregular. She wanted to give up many times, but her grandma told her patience is the most
important thing for paper-cutting.

From then on, Chen Xi practices cutting every evening after finishing homework. She starts

三、完形填空(15小题,每小题 1分,共 15分)
阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从各题所给 A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Last spring, our school started a “Street Clean-up Volunteer” activity. All students could take
part in it, and I decided to join the activity alone. Most of my classmates laughed at me, because
they thought cleaning streets was boring and dirty work. But I loved to do something to protect our
city environment, so I didn’t care about their words.
We met at the main street gate of our community at seven o’clock on Saturday morning. Our
teacher divided us into four small groups. My group’s task was to 41 rubbish on the sidewalks, sort
plastic and paper waste, and put them into different bins. We took big rubbish bags and long
brooms from the school office and walked along the whole street.
When I first walked along the street, I saw lots of rubbish everywhere: plastic bottles, snack
bags, used tissue paper and broken fruit boxes. Some people threw rubbish on the ground just
beside the public bins. I walked to them and spoke politely, “Excuse me, could you please put your
waste into the bin ” Most people felt sorry and listened to me, 42 several young boys laughed and
walked away without picking up their rubbish.
I didn’t feel angry or give up. I kept sweeping the street and picking up all rubbish for three
hours. My legs were sore, and my hands got dirty from holding the broom. When I planned to take
a short break, an old grandma walked to me slowly. She handed me a warm bottle of water and said
soft words of thanks. Her warm words 43 my heart full of joy.
The next weekend, I went to clean the street again. To my surprise, four classmates who
laughed at me last time came to help me without telling me in advance. They said they saw my
volunteer photos on the school WeChat group and wanted to join the clean-up work together. We
worked as a team and finished the cleaning much 44 than the first time. We also made colourful
environmental signs and stuck them on every public bin on the street.
Slowly, more local residents began to pay attention to street cleanliness. Fewer people threw
rubbish everywhere. Many shop owners put extra waste bins in front of their shops to help people
sort rubbish easily. One month later, our whole street became tidy and clean. Our head teacher
praised our small volunteer group and said we set a good 45 for all students in Grade Seven.
From this volunteer activity, I learned three important lessons. First, small actions can make a
great 46 to our living environment. If everyone does a little good thing, our city will become cleaner
and more beautiful. Second, don’t mind others’ bad words when you do something right and
meaningful. At first I felt upset because of classmates’ laughs, but later I knew I was doing valuable
第 8页共 11页
work. Third, teamwork can make hard work much easier. I couldn’t keep cleaning the street alone
for a long time, 47 with my classmates’ help, we made real changes to the street environment.
Now our volunteer group meets every Saturday morning. We not only clean streets, but also
tell people simple environmental knowledge, such as rubbish sorting and using cloth bags instead of
plastic bags when shopping. I hope more teenagers can join environmental volunteer activities.
Volunteer work doesn’t need special skills, it only needs a kind 48 and long-lasting persistence.
This activity also changes my daily living habits. I never throw rubbish casually now, and I
always carry reusable cloth bags when I go shopping with my parents. I also tell my family and
friends to protect the environment in daily life. My parents are proud of me and they 49 me to take
part in more public volunteer activities in the future.
Last week, the city youth volunteer center invited our group to share our street clean-up stories
in a teen volunteer speech meeting. I stood on the stage and told all listeners: “Volunteering is not a
hard task, it is a chance to give love to our city. Every small clean-up, every warm reminder, builds
a nicer world for all of us.” When I finished my speech, all listeners clapped loudly. At that moment,
all my tiredness became 50.
Many students ask me how to keep doing volunteer work when they feel tired. My answer is
simple: keep your original wish in your heart. Don’t join volunteer groups just for praise or small
prizes. Do volunteer work 51 you really want to protect the environment and help our city become
better. If you only care about getting rewards, you will give up quickly when you meet trouble. But
if you hold true kindness in your heart, you can 52 all difficulties and keep moving forward.
This street clean-up volunteer activity is one of the most unforgettable 53 in my Grade Seven
life. It teaches me responsibility, kindness and the great power of small good deeds. I will keep
volunteering as long as I have free time, and I will ask more classmates to 54 their spare time to do
environmental volunteer work and make our city a warmer, cleaner place for everyone to live 55.
