What I Learn from Failure
Failure is an important part of life. What matters most is what we can learn from it.
When I was in Senior 1, I was so addicted to playing badminton with friends that I didn’t revise my lessons after
class. As the midterm examination was drawing near, my fear mounted for the thought that I would fail. With the
result announced, there was no surprise that I fell behind, which made me ashamed. It was at that moment that I
realized I should have reviewed my lessons in time. Ever since then I have worked harder and made much progress.
As a saying goes, “No pain, no gain.” Had it not been for my failure, I would never understand the true meaning
of the saying.

Paragraph 1:
A few days later, the results of the competition were announced. Lily’s heart raced as the teacher read the
winners’ names. When she heard her own name, she froze for a second, unable to believe her ears. The classroom
erupted in cheers, and her classmates crowded around to congratulate her. Her teacher smiled and patted her head,
saying, “Your sunset painting is wonderful — it’s full of love for life.” Lily blushed, feeling a warm sense of joy and
pride spreading in her chest.
Paragraph 2:
When Lily’s painting was displayed in the art museum, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Her work hung neatly on
the wall, bathed in soft light, beside other excellent paintings. Many visitors stopped to admire it, whispering words of
praise. Her parents stood beside her, holding her hands tightly. Lily looked at her painting, then at the smiling faces
around her. She realized that sharing her art wasn’t scary at all. From that day on, she became more confident and was
willing to show her paintings to others.
