Students’ Holiday Travel Choices
Recently, our school’s English newspaper conducted a survey among Senior 3 students on their post-gaokao travel plans.
As the chart shows, about half prefer natural places, believing fresh air and relaxation help relieve long-term study pressure. 30% choose historic spots to experience traditional Chinese culture, while 19% favor foreign cities to broaden their horizons.
As for me, I will visit a historic city like Xi’an. It’s a great chance to appreciate our culture and feel the wisdom of our ancestors.
【答案】 Hearing that, Jessica decided it was time for a fresh start with Harley. Determined to build trust, she grabbed an apple from her lunch box and went to find Harley. Initially, Harley stepped back, his eyes wide with suspicion. Speaking softly, Jessica offered the apple, her hand held steady. This calmness finally convinced him to take a cautious bite. With the ice broken, she began the training, starting with simple commands. Practicing together every day, Jessica felt their confidence growing remarkably. Harley, no longer flinching at every sound, started to respond willingly. It was after numerous such sessions that a true partnership blossomed, transforming their initial struggles into smooth teamwork. Soon, they were working their way through the obstacle course that once seemed impossible.
The final day of the camp arrived, bringing with it the obstacle course race. Before starting, Jessica leaned close, whispering, “We can achieve this, together.” So profound was their bond that all the fear vanished. At the signal, they surged forward as one. With Harley as a partner rather than just a horse, they flew over jumps with incredible power and weaved through poles with graceful precision. It was a flawless performance. Not until an explosion of cheers erupted did Jessica realize they had crossed the finish line first. Overwhelmed with joy, she threw her arms around Harley’s neck, feeling his warm breath and steady presence. At that victorious moment, she finally understood the profound wisdom of Rose’s words: the patiently built trust is the foundation of everything.浙江宁波市镇海中学2025-2026学年高三6月模拟预测英语试题

Before moving to India, I had always approached job hunting with a simple and clear mind. In my home country, job ads usually listed not only what was required, but also what was offered, such as benefits, main duties, and pay ranges. This openness allowed job seekers to aim for positions that fit their skills and hopes. Besides, early talks by phone or email helped find any mismatches early, saving time for both sides. It was basically a process where information moved in two ways.
But the job market in India works quite differently. Job openings here are often posted with unclear words, giving little information about the real work and seldom showing pay levels. As a result, job hunters have to send in dozens of applications for jobs only loosely connected to their field. This would not be a problem if employers gave clear answers. I do not ask for long explanations. A short note on what the job involves and what it pays would stop wasted efforts on both sides.
As a person applying for a posted job, I tried to get clear facts about what they needed and what they could pay. I made it very clear that I would not take any job that failed to meet my needs, and I was told this was fine before my interview.
But I knew the trip was wasted after about four minutes. The manager spent the next ten minutes typing numbers hard into a calculator before saying my pay hopes were beyond their budget, though he must have known this before I came. All this is because face-to-face talks are thought more important than truly listening to what job hunters say. I am not so much angry that they waste my time, but that they waste their own time for no good reason. Those at interviews do not learn about the job, but only find out how much patience they have.
24. What does the author say about job hunting in his home country
A. It was an individual information gathering.
B. It was a two-way information exchange.
C. It was characterized by give-and-take.
D. It required many face-to-face meetings.
25. What is the writing purpose of paragraph 2
A. To recommend Indian job websites.
B. To compare salaries in two countries.
C. To show problems with unclear job ads.
D. To explain the reason for the job move.
26. What did the author do before going to the interview
A. He sent many applications.
B. He discussed pay with the manager.
C. He studied the company’s finance.
D. He confirmed his needs were acceptable.
27. What is the best title for the text
A. My First Job in a New Country
B. A Failed Interview Experience
C. Differences in Interview Cultures
D. Silence Costs More Than Words

You spend time with friends, share meals with family, and sit close to people you care about. These moments feel simple, but something deeper may be happening. Your body may be changing with every interaction.
Scientists from the University of East Anglia found that social life can shape the bacteria living in your gut (肠道). Many of them help your body work better. Each person has a unique mix. Food and environment affect it, but now scientists see that social interaction also plays a role.
To understand this idea, researchers studied the Seychelles warbler, a small bird that lives on a tiny island and rarely leaves it, which makes it ideal for the study in the long run. “We gathered hundreds of stool (粪便) samples from birds with known social roles — breeding pairs, helpers and non-helpers living in the same group, and in different groups. This allowed us to compare the gut bacteria of birds that interacted closely at the nest versus those that did not,” noted Dr. Lee.
The results showed a clear pattern. Birds that lived together had more similar gut bacteria than those living apart. Besides, interaction matters even more. Birds that spent more time together had gut bacteria that looked more alike. This means daily contact allows bacteria to pass between individuals. Birds that worked closely together, especially at the nest, shared more of these bacteria. These birds fed chicks, stayed near each other, and interacted often.
What does this mean for people Sharing a home or sitting close creates chances for bacteria to move between people.
“Whether you’re living with a partner, housemate, or family, your daily interactions — from hugging and sharing food-prep spaces — may encourage the exchange of gut microbes,” explained Dr. Lee.
The idea of sharing bacteria may sound strange at first, but not all bacteria are harmful. In fact, many of them help the body function better. Some aid in digestion, while others protect against disease and keep the body balanced. Because of this, sharing beneficial bacteria may even support better health within a household.
This research shows that human connection goes beyond emotions. It also affects the body in hidden ways.
28. Why did researchers choose the Seychelles warblers for their study
A. They have an ideal gut bacteria structure.
B. Their social roles are more clearly divided.
C. They love living in closely related large groups.
D. Their limited migration is perfect for the study.
29. Which influenced the similarity of gut bacteria among birds according to the study
A. Close social interactions. B. The way they fed.
C. The type of task they did. D. Different bird species.
30. What does the author try to say in the last two paragraphs
A. Living separately will lead to poor gut health.
B. The number of friends affects gut bacteria diversity.
C. Human social bonds are an invisible health resource.
D. People’s daily habits determine the level of happiness.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Scientists Discovered a New Species of Bacteria
B. Close Relationship May Be Changing Your Gut Bacteria
C. Sharing Meals Prevents the Spread of Harmful Bacteria
D. Human Connections Can Be Developed Through Activities
D
Grief can bring waves of heartache but for most people those feelings gradually fade. For some, they don’t. The loss remains intense, persistent, and difficult to handle in daily life. This condition, known as prolonged grief disorder (PGD), was added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5) in 2022.
“There’s something blocking their ability to finally say ‘I have to accept this,’” says Katherine Shear, director of the Center for Prolonged Grief at Columbia University. Researchers are now beginning to understand why PGD may involve breakdowns in the brain systems that govern attachment and reward, according to a 2026 study published in Trends in Neurosciences. In people with prolonged grief those systems may continue to signal that the lost loved one is still expected, creating conflict between memory and reality.
PGD is a “long-term, intense painful reaction to loss”, says Holly Prigerson at Weill Cornell Medicine. Individuals remain “stuck”, marked by persistent yearning and not accepting the reality of the loss. Grief is considered PGD when symptoms last longer than 12 months.
How does it affect the brain Regions involved in reward and motivation appear to remain active. “People with severe grief are still expecting the existence of what is gone, making it harder for the brain to update and accept the loss,” says Shear. Research published in 2020 also found that PGD involves different activity patterns in the amygdala (大脑杏仁核).
PGD can lead to a higher risk of death. One explanation is that prolonged grief keeps the body in a lasting stress response. High levels of cortisol can hurt the heart system and interfere with immune function.
The most common treatment is Prolonged Grief Therapy. “The treatment focuses on helping people accept the reality of the loss and restore their capacity for well-being, but formal recognition of PGD is crucial, as it ensures accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for those stuck in this disabling experience.” Shear explains.
32. What is PGD according to the text
A. Grief that can’t be treated. B. Grief that brings heartaches.
C. Grief that comes from great loss. D. Grief that doesn’t ease with time.
33. What does the study published in 2026 mainly focus on
A. Who PGD affects. B. What PGD brings.
C. How PGD works. D. Why PGD spreads.
34. How does PGD affect humans according to Katherine Shear
A. It disturbs brain functions. B. It reduces memory activity.
C. It weakens the immune system. D. It shortens people’s lifetime.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Official identification of PGD leads to better medical help.
B. Well-being can be recovered with short-term PGD therapy.
C. Reality acceptance of the loss is the main goal of curing PGD.
D. Recognition of PGD largely relies on patients’ self-awareness.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Dogs, more so than almost any other domestic pets, are desperate for human eye contact. ____36____ And according to a study that pull at the heartstrings might be exactly why dogs can give us those looks at all.
____37____ Studying the two animals is a bit like breaking open a four-legged time capsule. A paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that dogs’ faces are structured for complex expressions in a way that wolves aren’t.
For the study, a team looked at two muscles (the RAOL and LAOM muscles) that work together to widen and open a dog’s eyes, causing them to appear bigger and more lovely, which we read as distinctly humanlike. The muscles form two short, straight lines, which connect the ring of muscle around a dog’s eye to either end of the brow above. ____38____ Therefore, they concluded that the origin of these complex facial expressions is after dogs splitting from wolves. Research has also shown that when dogs work these muscles, humans respond more positively. This isn’t simply a coincidental love story, in which the eyes of two species just happen to meet across a crowded planet. ____39____
For a species to change quickly, a pretty powerful force must be acting on it. ____40____ We connect more deeply with animals capable of making humanlike facial movements, so dogs have evolved to look like our own human babies to be selected for adoption.
A. Dogs are very similar to wolves.
B. And that is where humans come in.
C. It’s hard for most people to resist the shining eyes of a little dog.
D. Dogs split off from their gray wolf relatives as many as 33,000 years ago.
E. But in the four gray wolves the researchers looked at, neither muscle was present.
F. Just like other best partnerships, this one is more likely the result of years of evolution.
G. Researchers have long been interested in the ways dogs make eye contact with humans.

Jessica breathed in the familiar smell of dried grass and horses when entering the building for horses. She was back for another summer at Green Meadow Farm’s riding camp. Her advisor, Rose, walked beside her. Jessica searched every corner, hoping to see Piper, her favourite horse she had bonded with last year. They had even won second place in the annual obstacle course race (障碍赛跑) , where Piper had skillfully moved through the poles. Jessica loved everything about Piper, from her gentleness to the way Piper’s soft nose tickled (使发痒) her hand whenever she fed her apples.
“I can’t wait to ride Piper,” Jessica told Rose. Rose smiled. “I know you love Piper, but we need to save her for some new riders.” Jessica’s heart sank, but she nodded in understanding.
“How about you try riding Harley ” Rose said. Jessica was a little frightened by the giant male horse Rose pointed to. Even though Harley was beautiful with his shiny hair, he looked restless. Rose could sense Jessica’s anxiety. “Don’t worry. He just needs an experienced rider to help train him.”
Jessica cautiously approached him, but Harley moved away. As Jessica touched his back, he appeared restless and let out a loud cry, making Jessica even more nervous. An annoyed Jessica led an unwilling Harley outside. She climbed on top of him and headed to the obstacle course. However, when reaching the fence, Harley planted his feet in the dirt, refusing to take another step.
The first few days together were full of challenges. Harley refused jumps, galloped (飞奔) out of control, and once, frightened by a bird, he even went up on his back legs and threw Jessica into the air. Feeling painful and discouraged, she turned to Rose. “I really miss Piper and her gentleness. Harley is too hard to control.” Patting her on the shoulder, Rose said thoughtfully, “It’s okay to be scared, but do remember Harley has his own fears. If you are nervous, you will make him nervous. If you are confident, he will feel confident. If you show him trust, he will trust you.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Hearing that, Jessica decided it was time for a fresh start with Harley.
