After checking the tools and equipment, I make my way to the ship kitchen for a bite to eat with the rest of the researchers. It gives us the opportunity to go over our plans for the day ahead. It’s also the time for any questions to be raised that weren’t resolved the previous day. After that, we head for the work location. It’s my responsibility to brief the dive team and the team that remains on board about the specifics of the work for the day. Once that has been done and equipment has been carried out, it’s into the water we go!Any artifacts(人工制品)we discover during dives are brought aboard, analyzed and given a catalogue(目录)number. During archaeological excavations(挖掘), everything needs to be tagged(加标签)and protected by a series of conservation steps so that no harm comes to them. Then I spend my evenings checking my field notes, rewriting anything that’s unclear and improving drawings. All the information is then entered into the computer for safekeeping.Days in the laboratory are a million miles away from those at sea. Lab analysis can take months and months. Sometimes it seems to last forever! The samples that are collected in the field undergo thorough analysis in order to uncover the history of an archaeological site. Throughout the day, I have research assistants work through the thousands of samples gathered in the field. As a working mum, I encourage my children to get involved in my work and often bring them into the lab to lend a hand with simple tasks. By exposing them to my work, I hope to make them aware of the fragile(脆弱的)balance of ocean life. This is really what my work is all about: helping others to appreciate the ocean and how our activities affect it. If we all took more responsibility, it would help to save the ocean.24. Which of the following do the researchers do during breakfast A. Bring up unsolved issues from the day before.B. Discuss appropriate equipment for tasks.C. Collect instructions from the author.D. Prioritize the tasks for the day.25. What happens to the archaeological objects found at sea A. They are taken to land immediately. B. They are photographed on the spot.C. What does the author imply in the last paragraph A. Kids should be educated about ocean life.B. We should do more research in the ocean.C. We should treat the ocean with more respect.D. Ocean protection requires governments’ joint efforts.CThe Hague, where I live, has 11km of beautiful coastline with sandy beaches. In summer, I often see locals walking in nature or riding their bikes, then sitting down on one of the many benches available. Sometimes, they’re reading or chatting with their friends, but just as often, they’ re engaging in niksen.Niksen is a Dutch wellness trend that means “doing nothing”. It first caught the attention of the world in 2019 as a way to manage stress or recover from overtiredness. At the time, many people were complaining about overtiredness and depression caused by overwork and were seeking solutions. This led to the introduction of the Danish word “hygge” into the English dictionary, a term describing a sense of comfort created by simple activities like reading, or enjoying time at home with family. In my book Niksen: Embracing the Dutch Art of Doing Nothing, I define it as “doing nothing without a purpose” --- so not practicing mindfulness, a way of improving your mental state. While mindfulness is about being present at the moment, niksen is more about spending time to just be, letting your mind wander wherever it wants to go.Linguistically (从语言上讲), “ niksen”(doing nothing) is a verb created from the noun “niks”, which means “nothing”. “I think this is something that happens in Dutch in particular,” said Monique Flecken, a psycholinguist at the University of Amsterdam. Essentially, it’s much less work to say “niksen” instead of “to do nothing”. “The Dutch are practical, direct people and their language reflects that,” she said. As a linguist myself, I also loved the idea that you could express the whole concept of doing nothing in one short and easy-to-pronounce word."Trying to find time to do nothing has become really necessary today because we are more stressed out than ever. Our lives and jobs have become more complex. We tend to spend a lot of time on computers. There is a lot of pressure to be the best version of ourselves. There is a lot of pressure to perform”, said psychologist Thijs Launspach.28. Which of the following best describes the scenes in paragraph 1 A. Stressful and frightening. B. Touching and surprising.C. Strange and unusual. D. Restful and relaxing.29. What can we know about hygge A. It encourages a busy lifestyle. B. It helps people reduce stress.C. It means studying very hard. D. It is a Dutch wellness trend.30. What do both Flecken and the author think of the word “niksen” A. It is a brief and effective expression. B. It is hard to understand for most people.C. It is closely linked to the meaning of life. D. It is based on the concept of being mindful.31. What does Launspach explain in the last paragraph A. Why people should adopt niksen. B. How the Dutch achieve work-life balance.C. How the Dutch understand the idea of niksen. D. Why people choose to live a more complex life.DOn a cool December afternoon a group of women are sitting in a circle on the grass, singing and clapping. They are part of the “hargila army”, a group of rural women in the Indian state of Assam who work to protect one of the world’s rarest storks(鹳):the greater adjutant — or hargila as the scavenger bird(食腐肉的鸟)is known locally. They are celebrating the UN Environment Programme’ s Champions of the Earth award, presented to the group’s biologist founder, Dr Purnima Devi Barman. The greater adjutant, a member of the stork family that can grow up to 1.5 meters tall, was once common throughout South Asia. But its eccentric features --- a featherless(无毛的)head, striking pale eyes and long skinny legs -- and its smelly droppings --- won it few fans. Villagers attacked them with stones and burned their nests.Today the greater adjutant is endangered, with fewer than 1,200 adult birds in its last strongholds(主要栖息地). Most of the global population is found in Assam, making Barman and the hargila army’s work critical to its survival.Several years ago, Barman began teaching the villagers about the birds’ importance. In response, she was asked to clean the smelly mess herself. The unfriendliness she faced made her realize that to save the bird, she first needed to change the community’s attitude to it. And it was the women who Barman believed held the key to community-led conservation. The problem was they were tied to their homes and household chores. So Barman found ways to bring them out where she could talk to them. She began organizing cooking competitions of traditional sweets, where she befriended the women and talked about the birds.By 2014, the conservation movement had gathered speed and the hargila army was soon born. “Conservation is all about uniting people and building ownership,” says Barman. “I’ve always believed that, if given a chance, women can make a big difference in conservation.” Today, the bird is now a cultural symbol, appearing on everything from towels to road-safety campaigns.32. What does the underlined word “eccentric” in paragraph 3 mean A. Useful. B. Attractive. C. Important. D. Strange.33. How did Barman change the women’ s attitude to the birds A. By introducing strict laws against harming the storks.B. By creating interactive ways to connect with them.C. By organizing educational campaigns for them.D. By cleaning up the birds’ mess herself.34. How does Barman sound in the last paragraph A. Academic. B. Humorous. C. Confident. D. Formal.35. What would be the best title for the text A. How the greater adjutant struggled to survive B. How India protected species under threatC. How women saved India’s rarest stork D. In the middle of the excitement, I faced a series of problems that could affect our team’s chances. The day began with the Ring-Diving Contest, where my mistake led to us losing points and falling behind early. Despite my teammates Brian and Tyrone trying to cheer me up, I couldn’t shake off the disappointment. Moving on to the Ping-Pong Derby, my discomfort in the dark lake water affected how we did, widening the gap between us and the top teams. I’d never been a great swimmer. It required bravery for me even to enter the water of a lake this big with real live fish and a dirty bottom. I always held my breath whenever I stuck my toes in. Maybe that’s why we also lost the easiest challenge, the Ping-Pong Derby, because I couldn’t relax long enough to blow the ball to my teammate when I had to stand with my feet in the sticky lake bottom.Next to my two expert friends, I felt like the green stuff in the water, unwanted and not particularly useful. Captain Dale recorded the scores on a board and then shouted that the final race was worth twenty-five points and would decide the winner. Someone shouted and asked which race it was. Captain Dale checked his board and said it was the Alligator Race.I asked my teammates why they called it the Alligator Race. “The first guy uses his arms, the second guy holds his legs and the third guy holds the second guy’s legs but kicks his own legs. All together it looks like a giant alligator(鳄鱼)racing in the water. And the first team across the finish line wins,” Tyrone explained.注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。Standing at the water’s edge before the final race, doubt came over me. . _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________The crowd’s cheers encouraged us toward victory. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________周日测试II 卷(答题纸)Name ________ No.__________ Score________语法填空(每小题1.5分)56.___________ 57. ___________ 58.___________ 59._____________ 60. ___________61.___________ 62. ___________ 63.___________ 64._____________ 65. ___________写作Join Our English Reading ClubStanding at the water’s edge before the final race, doubt came over me.The crowd’s cheers encouraged us toward victory.U5周测参考答案听力:1-5ACBBC 6-10ACCBA 11-15 BABAC 16-20ACBBA阅读:A篇DBB B篇ADAC C篇DBAA D篇DBCC 七选五36-40 FADGB完形:41-45 CABBD 46-50ADCDB 51-55BCCDA语填:56.remarkable 57. the 58.received 59. described 60. experiencing61.at 62. essentials 63. that / which 64.to highlight 65. understanding写作第一节(划线部分为精彩表达)【写作提示】 本写作任务要求你为英语阅读俱乐部写一则招新广告。第一段应简要介绍学校的阅读俱乐部:第二段应表明阅读的益处,比如阅读可以提升语言技能,拓宽知识面:第三段可以发出真诚邀请。One possible version:Join Our English Reading ClubHello fellow students,Are you eager to explore a new world through reading if so, we invite you to join us. Crossing the finish line as winners filled me with joy, washing away my doubts and fears. Captain Dale tied the ribbons of our three medals together. And then he threw them toward us.
