Different countries have their own special birthday celebration customs. Let’s explore some of them together. In Mexico A classic custom at Mexican birthday parties is the pi ata. In Scotland Family members or friends lift the birthday child by the arms and legs and bump (碰) them gently against the ground—once for each year of their age, and one more bump for luck in the coming year. In South Africa South African children do not celebrate every birthday. However, on their 21st birthday, their parents make a key and give it to them. Many students think confidence means “I am great”. They always try to put their best foot forward around classmates and teachers. ____29____ It’s not about shouting “I’m perfect” every day. That kind of confidence is like a paper house—it falls easily when you make mistakes or feel down.

Mount Huangshan is world-famous for its “Four Wonders”. However, if you visit in winter, you can also enjoy the great beauty of Huangshan rime (雾凇).
Huangshan rime forms on high mountain pines, blending (融合) the strength of these ancient trees with the softness of ice. This can be found nowhere else.
How does Huangshan rime form
Rime forms when three key conditions come together perfectly. First, cold weather is needed. The air temperature must drop below 0°C, often between -7°C and -2°C on the high peaks of Mount Huangshan. Second, there must be plenty of water vapour (水蒸气) in the air. Third, a light wind is of great importance. It helps water vapour stick to branches, rocks, and other surfaces, where it turns directly into ice through a process called deposition (凝华).
When is the best time to visit Huangshan rime
Early morning around sunrise, usually from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., is the perfect time to visit. As the sun rises, its light hits the ice crystals, making them shine like diamonds (钻石), while the clear sky lends the view (景色) a magical beauty.

Huangshan rime is in danger. First of all, global warming matters a lot. Winters are getting warmer and drier, with fewer freezing days. In addition, some visitors touch or shake the branches, ruining (破坏) the rime. What’s more, the growing number of visitors every winter harms local plants and changes the environment, making it even harder for rime to form.
Save Huangshan Rime! Fight global warming
We should live a low-carbon (低碳的) life. Small efforts from everyone count.
Stop bad behaviour (行为)
We should say no to the harmful behaviour and treat nature with respect.
Control the number of visitors
Don’t let too many visitors visit at the same time. Book tickets online first!

Dear teachers and school friends,
It is a great honour to stand here and give my speech to all of you. Today my topic is “Volunteering Brings Light”.
To me, volunteering is about small, warm acts that make a difference. As students, we should be part of this meaningful change.
Last term, a new student named Xiao Yu joined our class. She was quiet and always sat alone in the corner. She never talked to anyone. As a member of our class volunteer group, I decided to help her fit in. I invited her to join our group activities, shared interesting stories with her and introduced her to more classmates. Gradually, she became outgoing and started to take part in class activities actively. One day she smiled and told me, “Thank you. I finally feel at home here.”
I’ve realized that volunteering is made up of these little kind acts. They can really light up someone’s dark days!
Thank you for your attention!
