Last winter, I joined a volunteer program at an animal shelter near my school. The program was to help take care of homeless dogs and cats. I felt a little excited but also nervous because I had never worked with animals before.
I was asked to help clean the cages, feed the animals, and take the dogs for short walks. Every Saturday morning, I went to the shelter and spent two hours there. At first, some dogs barked at me loudly. I was frightened. But soon they became friendly. One little brown dog always wagged its tail when it saw me. I named it Lucky.
Through this experience, I learned that volunteering is not just about helping animals. It also taught me responsibility and patience. I learned that every small act of kindness matters. Lucky taught me that love can heal fear.
Volunteering made me feel warm inside. It gave me a sense of joy and purpose. I realized that even a teenager can make a difference. I will continue to volunteer at the shelter and help more animals in need.
