二、阅读理解
Have you ever stayed up late to finish a whole season of a cartoon series in one night This activity is called binge-watching. Thanks to fast Wi-Fi and streaming platforms, watching many episodes back-to-back has become extremely common among middle school students.
However, a recent survey from a youth mental health centre shows bad sides of binge-watching. Over half of the interviewed students said they cut down their sleeping hours to watch videos late at night. One third of them put off their homework or sports training because they couldn’t stop watching shows. Some even missed morning self-study for lack of sleep.
Most of these problems come from weak self-control. Once students start binge-watching exciting series, it’s hard for them to stop. Gradually, this habit turns into a bad cycle: late nights lead to tiredness in class, bad grades, and weaker physical health. Experts say long-hour screen watching works just like junk food—too much of it will do great harm to our body and study.
So how can we solve this problem The key is moderation. We need to make clear time rules for screen use. For example, set a 40-minute watching limit every weekend. At the same time, fill spare time with healthier activities: reading paper books, playing ball games or hanging out with real-life friends. As an old saying goes, “Moderation in all things is the best policy.”
1. What negative result of binge-watching is mentioned in the passage
A. It helps students make more friends with the same hobby
B. It makes students finish their homework faster
C. It causes sleep shortage and delays school tasks
D. It improves students’ imagination after watching shows
2. Why does the writer quote the survey from the youth centre
A. To prove binge-watching brings trouble to teenagers’ school life
B. To show which cartoon series are most popular among students
C. To explain why streaming platforms develop so quickly
D. To give advice on choosing suitable videos for teenagers
3. Which sentence fits best in the blank before the paragraph talking about self-control
A. How can we enjoy interesting online videos freely
B. Binge-watching shares similar risks with unhealthy eating habits
C. What fun activities can we take up after school
D. Why do most students love watching series in their free time
4. What is the main idea of the whole text
A. Streaming platforms offer lots of wonderful shows for students
B. Binge-watching is popular among teens but needs proper control
C. Bad sleeping habits come from too much school homework
D. Students should give up watching online videos completely
三、阅读回答问题
In a remote mountain village of Guizhou, there stands a special girls’ high school. Over 15 years, this school has changed the fate of more than 1200 poor local girls by sending them into different universities across the country.
The founder of this school is an elderly lady named Li Xiuying. Thirty years ago, she began teaching in this poor mountain area. She soon found many girls dropped out of school at a young age. After deep visits to their homes, she learned the truth: poor families couldn’t afford schooling, and girls were forced to work early or get married as teenagers.
Li Xiuying made up her mind to change this unfair situation. She spent ten years raising money everywhere. Finally, the first free public high school only for girls in this mountain area opened in 2010. Every day, she gets up at 4:30 a.m. to check the dormitory lights and walk students to classrooms, to make shy girls feel safe at school. Though she suffers from several illnesses now, the school and her students are always her biggest care.
Li’s moving story has warmed people all over the country and encouraged lots of her former students to give back. One of her students, Lin Xiaoting, graduated from university and came back to this school as a math teacher. “Without Ms Li, I would never get the chance to receive higher education. She teaches me that once you become strong, you should reach out to help people in need,” Lin says.
1. What change has the special girls’ school brought to over 1200 poor village girls
2. Why did Lin Xiaoting come back to the mountain school to work as a math teacher
3. What can you learn from Ms Li Xiuying’s story

Dear Mike,
I’m so sorry to hear you have trouble balancing study and hobbies.
I have two useful ways for you. First, make a daily timetable every morning. Divide your time into study blocks and hobby time, and stick to the plan strictly. Second, use your break time wisely. Finish small homework tasks at noon so you can have more free time after school. Third, don’t put off tasks. If you finish work early, you can enjoy your hobbies without worry.
I hope these ways can help you solve your problem.
Yours,
Zhang Hua
