Four Beautiful Beaches In Singapore
In Singapore, there are a range of special beaches where you can relax for a day. At these popular beaches, you’ll feel as if you’re in paradise (天堂)—like Bali. Here are four of the best beaches there.
Pulau Hantu
This island has a quiet beach far from busy tourist spots. The island consists of two small islands that join at low tide. There’s soft white sand and clear blue-green water here, teeming with (充满) colorful corals and marine life. People often camp overnight on the island, as it is only accessible by boat.
Tanjong Beach
The white-sandy beach is man-made and it’s the perfect place to relax in the sun, read a book away from the crowds, or go for a swim in the ocean. Especially, the Tanjong Beach Club is a top nightlife spot for drinking cocktails and enjoying water sports like surfing.
St. John’s Island Beach
You can enjoy a quiet beach on St. John’s Island. This pretty place has a beach that’s great for sunbathing, swimming in clear water, and having picnics away from the city. Visitors can also spot unique marine life (海洋生物), go fishing, and even rent cabins or bungalows to stay on the island. Make sure to bring everything you need—there are no shops on the island.
Coney Island
Coney Island beach is the perfect place to relax away from the crowds. This hidden destination offers a couple of sandy spots to relax—whether you’re walking or cycling around Coney Island. It is definitely one of the best beaches to visit alone for a therapeutic (治愈的) experience.

Two years ago, artist Dave Clark exhibited his artwork at the local Mantel Gallery — a small, repurposed Little Free Library that does double duty: When it’s not filled with books, it shows the works of artists like Clark.
Clark was struck by the idea. “That’s cool,” Clark said. While his neighborhood had many artists, he noted, it did not have any galleries. So he designed and built a micro-gallery (微型画廊) with his wife. He set it up in the front yard of their house and named it Gallery 17.
Later, the couple organized an exhibition for local artist Cody Lusby. About 40 people showed up. Soon, others began asking Clark to build micro-galleries for them. And then, artists from around Los Angeles and as far away as Ecuador began asking to show their works. At a time of falling support for public arts and artists, these micro-galleries have created neighborhood art areas.
After retiring in 2016, Clark founded an art center connecting artists. He had long grown tired of the traditional “pay to play” process. Art galleries chose only a select few to be shown while artists were spending several hundred dollars a year getting in various places just for exposure (曝光). At this art center, Clark charges $450 for the materials, building and set-up. The artists receive 100% of the profits (收益) for any work sold.
Some artists who’ve never shown their works ask to exhibit their work. Recently one of Clark’s neighbors asked to exhibit his partner’s father’s work. “He’s an artist in his 80s. For artists like him, this is such a cool, fun thing. It represents their first individual show. And that’s a proud achievement,” Clark said.
“It’s important that art become a part of everyday life,” said Linda Grimes, the director of a local art area. “Not everybody is welcome to go into an art gallery or a museum. Artists of local art areas started painting those traffic signal boxes so that people could see art and appreciate it outside, on the street every day. And then they painted large ones.”
4. What inspired Clark to set up Gallery 17
A.Some local artists’ invitation.
B.A library designer’s suggestion.
C.His experience with Mantel Gallery.
D.His intention to start a new business.
5. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.The great support from the neighbours.
B.The growing interest in micro-galleries.
C.The major benefit of running local galleries.
D.The need for cooperation in artistic creation.
6. How can Clark’s art center benefit artists
A.By encouraging charity events.
B.By providing low-cost training.
C.By sharing information on art orders.
D.By offering a cost-effective platform.
7. What do Linda’s words suggest about local art areas
A.They help to broaden artists’ themes.
B.They allow the public to enjoy art easily.
C.They inspire people to create their own art.
D.They fail to gain popularity like art galleries.

Language lets us share our feelings, make connections, and even hand down family traditions from generation to generation. But what about family members who don’t speak the same language
A “mother language” is defined as the first language that a child learns at home. So you’d think that means your mother language is your strongest, most comfortable language, right Wrong. While you might think learning a language is like riding a bicycle, something you never forget how to do, it’s easy to lose language fluency without practice.
Studies show that people who learn a heritage language (that is, one connected to their family history, whether they grew up speaking it or not) experience improved self-esteem (自尊) and safety in their identities (身份). Researchers also mention that reconnecting with and understanding the family history and community is the driving force behind heritage language learning.
Relearning a mother language or trying out a heritage language as a beginner might feel overwhelming at first, but the results can be incredibly rewarding . Jenny Liao’s article, Forgetting My First Language, details how her Cantonese slowly became rusty (荒疏的) after years of living away from home. Eventually, weekly phone calls with her parents only became possible through translation apps. Resolving to close these gaps, Liao threw herself into practicing Cantonese. She forced herself into uncomfortable Cantonese conversations whenever possible in stores and restaurants. Before long, she found she could have deeper conversations with her parents. Their relationship grew closer, even though her Cantonese only improved moderately. It’s a demonstration of the impressive power of language to bring families together.
Learning or relearning a heritage language can sound pretty intimidating at first. But the hard work invested proves to be rewarding and worthwhile. What could be a stronger personal connection than the connection with family heritage
8. What is the author’s attitude to the thought “mother language is the strongest”
A.Uncaring. B.Supportive. C.Concerned. D.Opposite.
9. What is the advantage of learning a heritage language according to studies
A.Improved job skills.
B.Heightened sense of belonging.
C.Sharpened communication skills.
D.Broadened understanding of different opinions.
10. How is paragraph 4 developed
A.By analyzing the cause. B.By explaining the data.
C.By making a comparison. D.By offering an example.
11. Which can replace the underlined word “intimidating” in the last paragraph
A.Amazing. B.Confusing. C.Frightening. D.Relaxing.

The rise of digital technology has completely transformed the way students live their lives. From the way they socialise to the way they learn, digital technology has become a necessary part of campus life. Then how has digital technology transformed students’ campus life
On the one hand, the use of social media has made it easier for students to keep in touch with their peers off campus. Some social platforms have become popular among students, allowing them to share their daily lives, engage in online conversations, and form virtual communities. Meanwhile, digital technology has also changed the way students communicate with their instructors. With email and online chat platforms, students can easily contact their teachers for clarification on assignments, grades, and course content. This has improved communication between students and faculty, leading to a better learning experience.
On the other hand, digital technology has also revolutionized the way students learn. With online courses and virtual classrooms, students can access a variety of courses from the comfort of their own homes. This has opened up opportunities for students to pursue their passions and interests outside of their majors. Actually, it has made it easier to promote and participate in multiple campus events. Students can easily create online campaigns to promote events, organise events using online calendars, and even stream events live over the Internet. This has made it possible for more students to get involved and participate in various campus events.
Another benefit which is often ignored is its positive impact on their mental health. With online resources, such as anxiety apps and depression support groups, students can deal with stress and anxiety. They can seek help when in need, as online counselling services are available 24/7.
Digital technology has transformed campus life in numerous ways. While digital technology has brought many benefits, it has also raised concerns about its negative impact on student life.

A.It stresses the importance of campus events.
B.It improves ways students organise events.
C.It lights the passions and confidence of students.
D.It encourages more contact with school teachers.

Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m writing to apply for the volunteer of the "Experience Dongguan" cultural exchange program.
I’m fully qualified for this position. I have a good command of oral English, which enables me to communicate with foreign students fluently. Besides, I am outgoing, patient and familiar with local Dongguan culture.
If I am lucky enough to be a volunteer, I will introduce Dongguan’s famous scenic spots, delicious local food and intangible cultural heritage to British students. I will also organize small cultural activities to help them experience local customs personally.
I sincerely hope to get this chance. I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
