Last Friday, I went to a coffee shop to meet some friends. Because I arrived ten minutes early, I ordered a cup of coffee and sat watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street, and a little boy was running after the ball as it rolled across the street.

Jiuzhaigou, located in Sichuan Province, is one of the most beautiful natural scenic spots in China. It was listed as a World Natural Heritage Site (世界自然遗产地) in 1992. It is famous for its colourful lakes, great waterfalls and snow-capped mountains.
Its name means “the valley of nine Tibetan villages”. Local people here have lived in harmony with nature for a long time. The most amazing sights are its lakes. The water shows different colours such as blue and green. Its colour changes with light and seasons. The special minerals (矿物质) and small plants in the lake beds produce these fantastic colours.
Jiuzhaigou has more than a hundred lakes and lots of waterfalls. The Nuorilang Waterfall is the best-known. It is 27 meters high and 321 meters wide, and this makes it China’s widest calcified (钙化的) waterfall. The rushing water shows the great power of nature. Besides lakes and waterfalls, Jiuzhaigou also has thick forests and snow-capped mountains. It offers many rare (珍稀的) animals and plants like giant pandas and golden monkeys a place to live in.
