Every culture has its own ways of communicating. These ways are formed over a long time and are part of people’s daily lives. Understanding them can help us avoid mistakes and build good relationships with people from other countries.
In many Asian cultures, people value modesty. When others praise them, they often deny it politely. For example, if someone says your new dress is beautiful, you might answer, “No, it’s just an old one.” This behavior is not dishonest. It shows respect and humbleness. However, in Western cultures, people usually accept praise directly and say “Thank you” with a big smile. They think it is honest and natural.
Another difference is about body language. In China, nodding your head means “yes”. But in some Southeast Asian countries, shaking your head means agreement. It is easy to get confused if you don’t know this. Besides, in Western countries, making eye contact shows confidence and sincerity. But in some Asian countries, too much eye contact with elders is considered impolite.
These cultural differences are not good or bad. They are just different. When we meet people from other cultures, we should be open-minded and learn from each other. Only in this way can we live together peacefully.

C.nodding your head to say yes D.looking at others’ eyes

60. Why do Asian people refuse praise politely
A.They think the praise is not true.
B.They want to show modesty and respect.
C.They don’t like others’ words.
D.They want to be different from Westerners.
61. In some Asian countries, too much eye contact with elders is ________.
A.polite B.honest C.impolite D.confident
62. What is the main idea of the passage
A.Body language in Asian countries.
B.How to praise others.

Safety is important for everyone, especially for students. How can we keep ourselves safe in daily life Here are some useful tips.

Third, stay safe online. Don’t share your personal information, like your home address or phone number, with strangers on the Internet. Also, don’t click on unknown links. They might bring viruses to your computer or phone.

The Amazon is the world’s biggest rainforest. It is in South America. It is so wide that it covers a little more than half the size of China! The Amazon River runs through the rainforest. It’s the world’s second-longest river. The Amazon covers much of Brazil. The green colour on the national flag of Brazil stands for the rainforest.
However, climate change and human activities make it “sick”. Usually, the rainforest can fix itself. But now, it feels too “tired” to get better. According to a new study, many trees there may die, and the Amazon rainforest may turn into hot, dry grassland in a few years.
Why is the Amazon “sick”
The Amazon is one of the world’s wettest places. But since 2005, three droughts have hit the rainforest. They were caused by climate change. The trees don’t have enough water to grow. What’s worse, as they become dry, they can easily catch fire.
Besides, people cut down rainforest trees for wood. They burn the forest to make farmland. All these kinds of activities have made about 17% of the rainforest disappear.

The Amazon is like the lungs of our planet. The rich plants there take carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air and make oxygen (O2). They make more than 20% of the planet’s oxygen. If the Amazon “dies”, there will be more CO2, and our Earth will become even hotter.
The Amazon is also home to over 3 million animals and plants. Many of them can’t live anywhere else. They would very likely just disappear.

A.Where is the Amazon
B.Who lives in the Amazon
C.How can we protect the Amazon
D.What will happen if we lose the Amazon

Do you have a sore throat, a runny nose and a headache Do you keep coughing and sneezing If you do, you probably have a cold or the flu, but which one 73
Colds, which usually last about a week, make the most difference to the nose. They usually cause a runny nose and sneezes. 74 Sometimes, they result in a headache, coughs and some aching problems.
75 People with flu usually get all the problems above. However, they also get a high fever, a dry cough and much worse aches. The problem also lasts much longer. Sometimes you can’t get better for at least two weeks.
Flu can be a terrible thing. The old, who are less healthy than most young people, can die from flu. 76 The injection (注射) is necessary and can truly save them.
Try not to touch your nose or eyes if you have been close to someone who has a cold. 77 If you catch a cold or the flu, go to bed for a while. Doing what we tell you will help you get better. Drink lots of water and stay in a warm, well-ventilated (通风条件好的) room. If you have a headache, take some medicine. And it’s a good idea to cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze.
A.Wash your hands after cleaning your nose.

Dear Tom,
How are you I’d like to tell you my plans for the summer vacation.
First of all, I will study every day. I will review all the lessons I learned this term and read different kinds of books to open my mind. Besides, I will keep doing sports every morning, such as running and playing badminton. I also plan to take up painting as my new hobby.
What’s more, I will spend more time staying with my parents. I will help them do housework like cleaning rooms and washing dishes. At weekends, my family will take short trips to nearby towns. I believe these trips can help me learn more about the world outside.
I’m looking forward to this meaningful summer holiday. Could you tell me your summer plans
Yours,
Li Hua
