Where does the sea salt come from
Salt is a common mineral (矿物质) in rocks and it can dissolve (溶解) in water easily. When rain falls on rocks, it washes salt away. Rivers carry these small minerals into the sea every day. Finally, more and more minerals stay in the sea.
Why doesn’t rain taste salty
Most rain comes from seawater. And when the sun warms the seawater, it turns into vapour (水蒸气) and rises into the sky. Later, vapour cools down and makes clouds. When the clouds get heavy, rain falls. However, salt stays in the sea and cannot go up with the vapour. That is why rain does not taste salty.
Why aren’t rivers salty
Rivers keep moving all the time, and their water never stays in one place for a long time. Then, fresh rainwater falls into rivers every day and helps keep rivers less salty. In this way, salt never builds up too much inside rivers.
How does the water cycle help
Water moves among land, rivers, oceans, and the sky. This is the water cycle. Water falls as rain, runs through rivers and finally goes back to the sea. During this journey, it carries small minerals from the land. This helps explain why the sea is salty.
19. The salt in the sea mainly comes from ________.
A. the rocks B. the water C. the rain
20. The underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refers to ________.
A. the rain B. the seawater C. the salt
21. The writer writes about the water cycle to help explain ________.
A. why the seawater is salty

C. where river water comes from
22. In which part of a newspaper can we most likely read this passage
A. Sport. B. Travel. C. Science.
C
Do you know how some fish find food in the water without using their eyes Or how ants find the shortest way back home The answers lie in an interesting science called neuroethology (神经行为学), a field that studies how animals’ brains (大脑) guide them.
Take birds for example. Every year, lots of birds travel across the seas to go back to their birthplace. How do they do it Scientists have found that birds use the sun, the stars, and even the Earth’s magnetic field (磁场) to find their way. Some birds have a compass (指南针) in their brains to help them feel this field.
Bats are another amazing example. They hunt and fly in the dark and almost never hit anything. Their secret (秘密) is echolocation—using sound to find things. First, a bat sends out high-pitched sounds. When the sounds hit things, they come back. Then, the bat’s brain makes a “sound map” of the things around it. Bats can do this very quickly—faster than you can close and open your eyes!
Neuroethology is not just about animals. It also helps scientists learn more about human brains. By studying animal brains, we can make smarter robots and find better ways to help with brain problems. So it reminds us that animals are not just cute—they have special abilities that help them live in nature.
23. How does the writer start the passage
A. By listing numbers. B. By asking questions. C. By giving examples.
24. Why does the writer take birds and bats as examples
A. To tell how animals’ brains are different.
B. To show animals have similar living habits.
C. To explain how animals’ brains guide them.
25. Which of the following shows the correct order of how bats use echolocation
a. b. c. d.
A. b→c→a→d B. a→b→c→d C. b→c→d→a
26. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us
A. Neuroethology is useful for humans too.
B. Neuroethology also studies smart robots.
C. Neuroethology helps animals find ways.
D
A new trend (潮流) online, known as “Chinamaxxing”—has become very popular among Western young people. It means trying their best to live a Chinese-style daily life. The word puts “China” and “maxxing” together. “Maxxing” comes from the word “max” in games, meaning “to do something a lot”.
This trend has led many Western young people to try Chinese habits in their daily lives. They often drink warm water, take Chinese medicine, and wear slippers indoors instead of shoes. Some even read the Tao Te Ching (《道德经》) or practice Tai Chi. A popular sentence they use is, “You’ve met me at a very Chinese time of my life.” These small habits help them live a calm life.
Why are Western young people so interested in these Chinese habits Social media like TikTok plays a big role. Through short videos and posts, they see the real China. They discover that small things can be good for health. Many of them want to try this calm way of life.
More importantly, Chinamaxxing is not about losing one’s own culture, but about cultural blending (融合). For example, Chinese American actor Jimmy O. Yang mixes a Chinese jacket with US streetwear. A vlogger from the UK puts goji berries (枸杞) into English afternoon tea. This fun and creative blending brings joy and understanding.
Chinamaxxing helps young people around the world to see a real China. This breaks their old ideas about China. When prejudice (偏见) is removed, culture can travel far.
27. What do you know about “Chinamaxxing” from paragraph 1
A. It is a way of sharing one’s daily life online.
B. It is a style of Western people living in China.
C. It is a trend of living a Chinese-style daily life.
28. What does the underlined sentence mean
A. He hopes to meet friends in China.
B. He is now living in a very Chinese way.
C. He thinks it is the best time to learn Chinese.
29. What does the writer think of cultural blending
A. It makes people lose their culture.
B. It is hard for people to understand.
C. It is enjoyable and brings new ideas.
30. What would be the best title for the passage
A. East vs West: Choose Your Side
B. China First: Leave Yours Behind
C. East Meets West: A New Way to Live

第三节任务型阅读(每小题2分,满分10分)

阅读短文,根据短文内容及要求完成各题。
When the BBC nature team filmed Dynasties about emperor penguins, they faced a difficult choice.
The team stayed in Antarctica for 337 days and watched baby penguins grow up. However, a heavy snowstorm came. The wind blew hard and snow flew everywhere. About 50 emperor penguins and their babies were trapped (被困住) in a deep hole. After two days, almost none of the penguins could climb out. Some baby penguins had already frozen to death (死亡).
The team felt really sad, because the penguins were like family to them. But there is an unwritten (不成文的) rule for the nature documentary makers: do not interfere (干预) with nature. Now they faced a difficult choice: should they leave them as they are, or help them
Finally, the team decided to break the rule. They couldn’t just watch the penguins die. They dug small steps on the ice to help the penguins climb out easily.
Now people have different ideas.
I’m glad that the team decided to act and save the penguins. There is always the “don’t interfere with nature” argument, but humans do so much to damage (损害) nature. So we can also give a hand when the animals need help. — Carter (@MatthewCarterIO)
I feel sorry for the baby penguins, but I think we shouldn’t interfere with nature. Nature has its own way to keep balance. Although we want to help, it’s better to let everything go naturally. — Jermey (@DomJermey)

Last weekend, I decided to go to the countryside with my parents. It was a wonderful trip because the air was fresh and clean. We walked along the river and enjoyed the beautiful flowers. I felt very relaxed because I stayed away from busy schoolwork. We also had a picnic under a big tree. The food tasted delicious. In the evening, we watched the stars together. This experience brought us closer. I really love spending time with my family outdoors. It helps me forget all my worries.
