Say No to Takeout
Last Wednesday, a three-day campaign themed “Say No to Takeout” successfully concluded in our school.
Hosted by the Student Union, it aimed to raise students’ awareness of scientific diets and reduce their
over-reliance on takeout food.
A variety of educational activities were organized during the event. First, a professional lecture revealed the
potential health risks of takeout, such as excessive oil and harmful food additives. Besides, a poster exhibition was
held to highlight the importance of balanced diets. Meanwhile, students shared useful eating tips and
communicated actively with each other.
The campaign has gained widespread popularity among teachers and students. It has greatly corrected
students’ inappropriate eating concepts and helped them develop healthy dietary habits. Furthermore, it has
created a positive campus atmosphere and encouraged students to stick to healthy lifestyles in the long run.

I forced myself to open the library door and walked inside. In a meeting room, ten of us sat nervously to
make a self-introduction. When my turn came and I said, “I’m Lisa. I don’t read so well. ” The words hung in the
air for a moment, but no one laughed. A kind volunteer walked to me, “that’s why we’re here.” Then, she handed
out simple worksheets and explained how letter sounds work. She read a word, and we repeated. The letters and
sounds that had once felt like a foreign language began to make sense. I could see how it all worked together!
For the first time in my life, I thought I could do this. Two evenings a week, I went to practise reading at the
Community Literacy Center for three years. It was slow, and sometimes frustrating, but I didn’t give up, because
all the volunteers there made me feel capable and valued. Today, I start reading books though there are still words
that trip me up and sentences I struggle with. But I'm not afraid to ask for help anymore. I don't need to have all
the answers. I just know that I am no longer stuck, and that is a new beginning.
