The Silent Hero of the Mountains
In a small village deep in the mountains, there lived a man named Liu Guodong. For more than 30 years, he has walked along the mountain paths every day, carrying letters and packages to the villagers. He is the only postman in the area.
The village is very far from the nearest town. There are no proper roads — only narrow stone paths that wind up and down the mountains. The journey is about 35 kilometers long, and it takes Liu a whole day to finish it. He has to cross two rivers and climb over three hills. In winter, the paths are covered with ice, and one wrong step could mean falling down the mountain.
When Liu first started the job, he was only 20 years old. The pay was low, and the work was dangerous. Many people told him to give up and find a better job in the city. But Liu refused. "The villagers need me," he said simply. "If I leave, how will they get their letters How will the children receive their exam papers "
Over the years, Liu has walked more than 300,000 kilometers — that's almost eight times around the Earth. He has never missed a delivery, even on snowy days or when he was sick. He knows every family in the mountains. He knows which grandma is waiting for a letter from her grandson working in the city, and which family is expecting a medicine package.
For the villagers, Liu is more than just a postman. He brings news from the outside world. He helps old people carry heavy things. Sometimes he even buys medicine for sick villagers on his way.
Liu has received many awards for his work, but he says he doesn't do it for prizes. "I do it because it's my responsibility," he says. "As long as I can walk, I will keep delivering letters to these mountains."
Liu Guodong may not be famous around the country, but to the people in that small mountain village, he is a hero — a silent hero who walks through the mountains every day, carrying hope and connection in his bag.
