Every time the Chinese New Year holiday comes to an end, many people across China pack their bags and head out on a journey full of fresh hopes. In 2026, I decided to drive back to Beijing after the holiday, which provided me with the chance to join the “trunk-filling competition” (后备箱装满大赛) that took place at the end of every Spring Festival.
The night before I left, my parents were busy planning how to maximize the space in my car’s trunk. They carefully chose and packed things they thought I would need or enjoy back in the city. From home-made food like meatballs to fresh vegetables and fruit from local farms, they filled every part of the trunk. They even included condiments (调味品) because they thought I could not find them easily in Beijing.
On my return trip, almost every highway service station was crowded with cars. As drivers opened their trunks, the colorful bags caught my eye. One driver, Xiaohao, who was returning to Tianjin, said his car was full of fresh vegetables grown by his family. “It’s not that I can’t buy them in the city. It’s just my family’s love for me,” he said.
Later, while surfing the Internet, I found that many people were also joining the “trunk-filling competition” and sharing photos of their trunks. These trunks were mostly filled with local specialties (特产) , farm products and homemade food. One netizen (网友) said, “No matter how big the trunk is, my parents can fill it up.”
Driving back with a trunk full of homemade foods, I felt very thankful. The things packed so carefully by my parents were not just things, they were warmth from home, love and comfort for the coming year.

In a dark bedroom, a teenager lies on the bed, holding his phone and scrolling (滚动) the screen. Video after video appears—funny jokes, dances, and challenges. He laughs quietly and shares a few videos with friends. Time passes quickly as he keeps scrolling, thinking, “Just one more,” but he can’t seem to stop.
As teens (青少年) today become more connected with social media, they are also becoming addicted (上瘾的). A social media platform has made it worse. From jokes to cosplay to science, the app has it all. With its continuous (连续不断的) scrolling, music and joy never stop. You could never call it boring.
Some researchers wondered what influence such a fun app might have on teens. A research team interviewed 31 teens between the ages of 13 and 18. Nearly all said they had at least one social media account (账户). The study team noted that more than 60% of the teens said they often used the app. “The main reason is that the app is really good at connecting teens with content that is interesting to them, and that they can enjoy with their friends,” one researcher said.
At the same time, the researchers also found some teens were uncomfortable with the addictive nature of the app. In addition, some teens said that the app’s videos of many seemingly perfect faces and perfect lives could hurt their self-respect.
So how can teenagers say no to those bad influences They can control their addictive habits by reducing their screen time. Choose a certain time as their “social media time”. They can also put their phones down for a few minutes and enjoy the real world. Take a walk, meet up with friends, and choose to make it a phone-less adventure. It may be difficult, but teenagers can do it.
34. What does the underlined sentence “‘Just one more,’ but he can’t seem to stop.” show us

B.The boy has no interest in the videos on the phone.
C.The boy is deeply attracted by the endless videos.

A.Nearly all of them had at least one social media account.
B.Most of them didn’t have any social media accounts.
C.Over 60% of the teens were uncomfortable with the app.
D.No teenagers were happy to see others’ perfect lives.

Does the Dead Sea look like a place you’d like to go swimming What do you expect to see in it Do you believe there are dead things in the Dead Sea
Located in southwest Asia, the Dead Sea stretches (绵延) for about 80 kilometers. At its widest point, the Dead Sea is about 18 kilometers wide. At its deepest point, it is about 400 meters deep. And if you happen to be in the area, you might hear people call it by another name, such as the Salt Sea, the East Sea, or the Sea of the Plain.
Even though it’s called the Dead Sea, it isn’t a sea at all! It’s a lake. Different from other lakes you might have seen, the Dead Sea is a very salty lake. In fact, the Dead Sea is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. The Dead Sea is so salty that nothing can live in it. That’s why it’s called the Dead Sea. And the Dead Sea stays very salty because it gets only a little rain, and very little fresh water gets into the Dead Sea each year.
▲ The Dead Sea is an amazing place to visit, and many people go to the Dead Sea each year on vacation. Because of its high salinity (盐度), the Dead Sea’s water is denser (密度大的) than ocean water or the water you’d find in a swimming pool. That means that anyone can float (漂浮) in the Dead Sea. So if you walk on the beach of the Dead Sea on a warm day, perhaps you can see many people floating in its waters. You might even see many of them reading books or magazines!
The Dead Sea is a special natural wonder. It gives us an amazing floating experience and shows nature’s great power — even with its “dead” name.
39. How does the writer start the passage
A.By telling a story. B.By listing numbers.
C.By giving an example. D.By asking questions.
40. What can we learn about the Dead Sea in Paragraph 2
① Its size. ② Its history. ③ Its location. ④ Its importance.
A.①② B.③④ C.①③ D.②④

A.Topic → Cause → Solution B.Fact → Reason → Summary
C.Opinion → Way → Result D.Question → Analysis → Advice
42. What’s the best sentence for “▲” in the paragraph
A.Don’t let the name of the Dead Sea scare you, though.
B.The water of the Dead Sea is a deep blue color, anyway.
C.The Dead Sea is getting smaller because of water pollution.
D.Always keep your eyes open while you are in the Dead Sea.
43. What’s the best title for the text

A warm cross-border (跨国) friendship has warmed millions of Chinese people nowadays. A kind donation (捐赠,捐款) made 27 years ago has finally grown into a large green forest in China’s desert areas.
In 1999, Ronald Sakolsky worked as a foreign teacher in Luoyang. He heard touching stories about Yin Yuzhen, who spent years fighting against desert growth in Mu Us Sandy Land, trying hard to turn dry, empty land into green woods.
Ronald tried to do something. He raised 5,000 US dollars and gave the money to environmental groups to help Yin plant more trees. In the same year, Ronald visited the sandy land and became close friends with Yin. Unluckily, they lost touch with each other soon after and had no communication (交流) for 27 years. However, Yin never forgot the help from her foreign friend. She kept working on tree planting for nearly 40 years. She took good care of every young tree with the donated money. Year by year, small saplings (幼树) grew into strong big trees.
Now, over 50,000 green trees cover the old desert, and the poor land becomes lively and fresh again. Yin posted a video online on May 16, 2026. She hoped to find her old friend and share the amazing changes of the desert with him. With lots of warm-hearted people’s help, the two friends got in touch with each other just one day later. Yin felt very excited and said to Ronald, “3.____________________________________________.”

Teamwork is important in our school life.
Last month, our class held a basketball match against Class Two. At first, we played separately and couldn’t score any points. Then our monitor told us to pass the ball and help each other. We worked as a team and finally won the game.
From this activity, I learn no one can succeed alone. When we support and trust each other, we can solve hard problems easily. Teamwork makes us stronger.
