Dear fellow students,
Nowadays, it is common that many students suffer from eye strain. They overuse their
eyes due to long hours of studying or using digital devices.
This problem not only damages our eyesight but also lowers our focus in class. Worse
still, it could even lead to potential long-term eye conditions.
To address this, we should take regular breaks during study, such as following the
20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds and keep
doing eye exercises daily. Outdoor activities also count. Let’s work together to protect our
eyes for a healthier campus life.
Yours,
Li Hua

To her horror, the basket was empty. Jane’s heart sank as she frantically searched the
yard, her voice trembling with fear as she called Pip’s name. Tears welled up in her eyes as
she imagined the worst, fearing that Pip might have been blown away by the storm or hurt
by the falling branches. She knelt down, scanning the ground for any sign of the little
sparrow, her hands shaking as she picked up twigs and leaves.
At this moment, Mr. Thompson appeared with Pip. He held the sparrow gently in his
hands, his expression a mix of concern and embarrassment. “I found him hiding under my
porch,” he said, his voice softer than usual. “The storm was too strong for him.” Jane
rushed over, tears of relief streaming down her face as she took Pip back. She looked up at
Mr. Thompson, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Thank you.” she whispered, her heart
overflowing with joy and newfound respect for her neighbor.

To her horror, the basket was empty. Rain had flattened the grass, and the wind had
knocked over the basket. She scanned the yard frantically—under the bushes, behind the
fence—but found nothing. Her heart sank. Just then, she noticed tiny wet footprints trailing
toward Mr. Thompson’s side. Peering through the gaps, she saw a small pile of dry leaves
under his porch, and a piece of cloth that looked like a bandage. A glimmer of hope
flickered in her chest. Could he have... She held her breath, waiting.
At this moment, Mr. Thompson appeared with Pip. The little sparrow rested safely in
his cupped hands, wrapped in a soft towel. “He blew over during the storm,” he said quietly,
avoiding her eyes. “I fixed his wing with a splint.” Jane’s eyes welled up. “Thank you,” she
whispered. He shrugged, then mumbled, “Maybe I was too hard on the birds. They’re just...
trying to survive.” He glanced at the fence. “If you build a feeder on your side, I’ll put up a
net on mine. We can share the yard.” Jane nodded, tears streaming. For the first time, the
chirping after the storm sounded like a shared song.
