If you take a close look at Guo Hanzhong’s hands, you will find them quite different from those of ordinary people, for the muscles at the base of his thumbs stand out obviously. As his colleague Xie Li explains, these special physical features are clear evidence that he has been using professional restoration tools continuously for decades.
Now at the age of 57, Guo works in the cultural relics protection and restoration center based at Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan Province. During the nearly forty years of his career, he has taken part in restoring more than 6,000 ancient artifacts that were unearthed from the Sanxingdui archaeological site. In 2022, he was named one of China’s Ten Great Country Craftsmen, an honor which he earned as the only recipient from Sichuan.
Guo stepped into this field quite unexpectedly. In 1984, when large-scale digging activities were being carried out near his hometown, he got the chance to stay in touch with professional researchers. Gradually, he developed a strong interest in the work of relic restoration, which is widely recognized as a highly demanding job. It requires workers to possess great patience and sound judgment, because most unearthed relics are broken and fragile. All restorers must follow traditional skills strictly and make sure that no original marks on these precious cultural treasures get damaged.
It took Guo several years to repair many complicated relics, among which the No.1 bronze divine tree is a typical example. He will spend hours focusing his full attention on tiny broken parts whenever he carries out restoration work. Although he has gained nationwide fame, Guo never takes pride in his own achievements. He holds the belief that relic restoration is far from a fascinating job, but a lifelong mission to protect the history of our nation. In order to pass down professional skills to the younger generation, he also provides training for new restorers, hoping that more people will preserve our cultural heritage with sincere craftsmanship.
24. What can we infer from the description of Guo’s hands in paragraph 1
A. He often takes part in outdoor labor.
B. He has stuck to his job for many years.
C. He keeps doing physical exercise every day.
D. He receives professional medical treatment regularly.
25. Why did Guo Hanzhong become a cultural relic restorer
A. He wanted to win the title of Great Country Craftsman.
B. He was ordered to take this job by the local government.
C. He developed interest after contacting archaeological teams.
D. He planned to rebuild the broken Sanxingdui relics in his youth.
26. Which of the following words can best describe Guo Hanzhong
A. Patient and modest.
B. Brave and outgoing.
C. Strict and humorous.
D. Cautious and creative.
27. What does the last paragraph mainly stress
A. The difficulty of restoring bronze relics.
B. The widespread influence of Sanxingdui culture.
C. The nationwide popularity of ancient cultural relics.
D. Guo’s attitude towards his career and heritage inheritance.
C
Yejin Choi, a computer scientist, calls today’s chatbots “extremely confident.” They produce fluent answers even when completely wrong — a weakness called “hallucination (幻觉).” Unlike humans, chatbots never admit uncertainty.
Choi wasn’t always a critic. In the early 2010s, she worked on standard AI tasks. But she grew troubled by the field’s obsession (痴迷) with scale: feed a model more data and computing power, and it supposedly gets smarter. “It works, up to a point,” she says. “But it will never give you common sense.”
Common sense — reasonable guesses about everyday situations — became her focus. In 2022, her team created a standard called CommonsenseQA. Results were surprising: top models scored barely above random chance. Ask a chatbot: “If you drop a glass on the floor, what will happen ” It might answer: “You should pick it up” — missing that the glass will break.
Choi’s solution is not bigger models but more thoughtful ones. She forces AI to generate multiple possible answers, then pick the one that is most consistent with physical and social rules. This reduces hallucinations but makes AI slower and less striking — a hard sell in a speed-obsessed industry.
Some colleagues argue her method “hobbles” AI’s creativity. Others say larger models will solve hallucination. Choi disagrees: “A model that never says ‘I don’t know’ is not intelligent — it’s just a liar.”
Last year Choi won a MacArthur “genius” grant. In her speech she said: “I want my daughter to live in a world where machines are trustworthy — not because they are always right, but because they are honest about what they don’t know.”
28. What does the example of the glass in paragraph 3 show about chatbots
A. They answer too slowly.
B. They avoid dangerous topics.
C. They lack physical common sense.
D. They understand cause and effect well.
29. Which one would Choi most likely agree with
A. Speed should be AI’s top priority.
B. Larger models will fix hallucination.
C. Confidence is the mark of real intelligence.
D. Admitting uncertainty is a kind of intelligence.
30. What does the underlined word “hobbles” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A. Speeds up. B. Limits. C. Reshapes. D. Copies.
31. What does Choi’s speech about her daughter intend to do
A. To prove AI can gain people’s complete trust.
B. To explain larger AI models fail to cut down hallucinations.
C. To argue human honesty is superior to machine intelligence.
D. To highlight honesty about ignorance is key to trustworthy AI.
D
With the rapid development of modern technology, China is pushing forward agricultural revitalization (振兴) to build a stronger countryside. In the past, most farmers mainly depended on traditional farming skills and natural weather. Bad weather often caused poor harvests, and farmers could hardly make enough money from their land. Most of them worked hard all year round but still lived a simple and poor life with little extra income.
Nowadays, high-tech methods are widely used in fields across the country. Smart farming systems help monitor soil conditions, water supply and temperature automatically. Drones are used to water crops and kill harmful insects without wasting water. Such technology greatly reduces farmers’ hard work while improving crop production and quality. Besides, local governments encourage farmers to grow special local products instead of common crops. These unique goods can be sold at higher prices online, bringing more income to rural families.
Agricultural revitalization also includes building better rural infrastructure (基础设施). New roads connect villages to markets directly, making transportation faster and cheaper. More online sales centers have been set up, so farmers can send fresh fruit, vegetables and tea to customers in cities easily. Young people who once left hometowns to work in big cities are now returning to start agricultural businesses. They bring new ideas and modern management skills, making rural areas more lively and promising.
However, challenges still exist. Some old farmers are slow to accept new technology. They worry that high-tech equipment is too expensive to afford and difficult to operate. To solve this problem, local governments provide free training and simple guidance to help farmers learn new skills step by step. More efforts are made to bridge the gap between traditional experience and modern agriculture. Time and patience are needed to help farmers adapt to these great changes.
China believes that strong agriculture leads to national development. By combining modern technology with traditional farming, agricultural revitalization will create a better future for both rural people and the whole country. It will also help achieve long-term stability and prosperity in rural areas.
32. What can we conclude about high-tech farming in paragraph 2
A. It improves agriculture in multiple ways.
B. It reduces dependence on natural resources.
C. It focuses more on crop quality than output.
D. It benefits farmers mostly through online sales.
33. What does the author imply about young people’s return
A. It solves the shortage of farmland.
B. It helps simplify rural management rules.
C. It results from government financial support.
D. It fuels the development potential of rural areas.
34. What is the main barrier to popularizing modern farming
A. Inadaptability of elderly farmers.
B. Decline of traditional experience.
C. Lack of advanced farming equipment.
D. Shortage of government training funds.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Youth Returns in Boosting Rural Economic Growth
B. The Unavoidable Challenges in Modern Agriculture
C. Technology-Driven Changes in Traditional Lifestyles
D. China’s Agricultural Revitalization with Modern Tech

It was a cold December afternoon. I hurried to the school library after the last class, eager to finish my school project on environmental protection. I had been working on it for nearly two weeks, but I still lacked enough useful materials. Worse still, the deadline was approaching, and I felt extremely anxious.
On the way, I accidentally knocked into an old man who was picking up fallen leaves in the campus garden. The books in his arms fell onto the ground heavily. I felt so embarrassed and apologized repeatedly, bending down to help him collect the books at once. To my surprise, the old man just smiled gently and said it didn’t matter. He introduced himself as Mr. Brown, a retired teacher who volunteered to take care of the campus garden every day.
While picking up the books, I noticed that many of them were about environmental science and pollution control. My eyes lit up immediately. I told him about my trouble with the school project. Mr. Brown listened patiently and patted me on the shoulder. He said he had plenty of related books and notes at home, and he would like to lend them to me. I was overjoyed and thanked him sincerely. We made an appointment that I would go to his small house near the school the next morning to get the materials.
But the next morning, I was about to set off when it began to rain heavily. The wind was blowing hard, and the road was full of puddles (水洼). I hesitated at the window, wondering if I should keep the appointment. I was worried that the heavy rain would make it hard for me to walk there, and I even thought Mr. Brown might not wait for me in such bad weather.

After a short struggle, I decided to keep my promise and set off in the rain. I put on my raincoat and rushed out without hesitation. The cold rain poured down, splashing all over my trousers and shoes. When I finally arrived at Mr. Brown’s house, I was soaked from head to toe. Seeing my wet appearance, Mr. Brown felt quite moved. He quickly handed me a towel and hot tea, then took out piles of professional books and detailed notes about environmental protection. He patiently explained key knowledge and shared his own environmental ideas with me.
With the precious materials Mr. Brown gave me, I finally completed my project perfectly. My paper won high praise from my teacher for its rich and reliable information. I went back to thank Mr. Brown again later. He told me that keeping promises and valuing knowledge are the most precious qualities for students. This rainy trip not only helped me finish my project, but also taught me a valuable lifelong lesson about honesty and sincerity.
