The Burj Khalifa
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the world’s tallest building, standing at 829.8 metres. It opened in January 2010. In March 2011, French climber Alain Robert climbed up it in about six hours. This 132-metre building in Santiago, Chile, is the tallest in the country. It was built to look like a mobile phone. In March 2014, American climber Dan Goodwin climbed the building using ropes and suction cups. His solo climb was recorded for a TV series called Superhumans.

Days ago, our hard work was nearly ruined within hours. We had arranged an interview with an important client of our organization, which was a precious opportunity for our small youth organization’s development. But our cameraman dropped out right before it started.

In the busy city of Jinan, a new trend is appearing. Young city people infected with “green fever” are seeking out mud, waste from animals and the simple satisfaction of growing their own tomatoes. Demand at a newly opened community garden is shocking — 204 plots of land, each about 30 square meters, were rented within just 10 days.
This trend shows a growing movement among young people to seek a digital detox (脱瘾) and return to nature, using hands-on farming as a way to reduce the pressures of modern city life. For many, the experience feels like a real-life version (版本) of virtual games they once played. “It looks like a real-life version of QQ Farm,” says a staff member, referring to the once-popular game where players managed virtual crops. The reasons behind this trend are also deeply rooted in cultural identity. “Perhaps it’s the farming DNA in Chinese people’s blood,” says Li Lubing, a 34-year-old renter who pays for the experience rather than just the vegetables.
The appeal also includes families, who make up about 70 percent of renters. For parents like Li Jiarun, the garden is a living classroom where her child can learn about crops firsthand — knowledge often absent from modern city education.
The business model is designed for busy city people with several service levels. A self-managed plot costs 1,299 yuan a year, while more expensive options come with staff helping with weeding, watering and harvesting. However, most renters, especially the young, choose the self-managed option, attracted by the healing power of working with their hands. Safety and convenience are also important, with low, rounded-top fences for children, and free tools and guidance for beginners.
According to media reports, community gardens have become popular in many parts of China. “Consumers are buying a mix of health, experience, emotion, and education. Fresh farm produce is just an extra benefit,” says a professor from Shandong Agricultural University.

Published in Communications Psychology, the research analyzed over 3,700 dream and daily-life records collected from 287 participants aged 18 to 70 within two weeks. Apart from daily records written by volunteers, researchers gathered detailed data concerning sleep conditions, cognitive (认知) levels and personal characters. The research team adopted advanced natural language processing to analyze dream texts systematically.
It is commonly believed that dreams happen randomly (随机地). However, findings prove dream content arises from the interplay of internal factors (mind-wandering habits, sleep quality and attitudes toward dreams) and outside influences including major public events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Further comparison between real-life experiences and dream descriptions indicates the brain never simply replays daytime memories. Instead, it restructures familiar surroundings like schools and offices, mixing various memories and imaginary ideas to build surreal dream scenes. Besides, personality directly decides dream styles: frequent mind wanderers tend to have fragmentary dreams, while those valuing dream meaning enjoy richer, more complete dreams. Related data from Rome’s Sapienza University also found lockdowns (封锁) made the dreams during the pandemic more emotional and restriction-themed, whose features gradually disappeared as people adapted mentally.
“Our findings show that dreams are not just a reflection of past experiences, but a changing process shaped by who we are and what we live through,” explains Valentina Elce, researcher at the IMT School and lead author of the paper. “By combining large-scale data with computational methods, we were able to uncover patterns in dream content that were previously difficult to discover.”
