The history of filmmaking finally found a permanent (永久的) home in Los Angeles with the 2021 arrival of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Located next to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and in a soap bubble-like (像肥皂泡一样的) space designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, the Academy Museum features four full floors of gallery space, two theaters, a restaurant and a gift store.

I planned my first solo (独自的) trip during my year off. People at college had quickly formed travel teams, eager to plan the perfect Gap Year adventure with friends. As a self-proclaimed (自称的) lone wolf, I had decided to go solo. I chose Thailand — a good backpacking choice for solo beginners. “The Louvre is dusting off its treasures, even the least-known,” said Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of the Musee du Louvre, in a statement on Friday. “For the first time, anyone can access its collection of works from a computer or smartphone for free.”
According to the Louvre’s official release, about 482,000 works have been digitized, representing about three quarters of the entire archive (档案馆).
“It’s just overwhelming (势不可挡),” says Andrew McClellan, a Tufts University professor and author of Inventing the Louvre: Art, Politics and the Origins of the Modern Museum in Eighteenth-Century Paris.“The strategy of putting nearly everything online is in keeping with the Enlightenment ideals that shaped the museum after the French Revolution: collecting the world’s knowledge together under one roof, and then making it available for researchers and the general public.”
Major institutions have been digitizing their collections for many years, but the Louvre’s online archives required especially significant labor and financial resources (人力和财力). Given this, McClellan and other observers have wondered whether the Louvre may find ways to monetize(使货币化) some of these images, and whether the online collection will affect real-life attendance. “I am sure that this digital content is going to further inspire people to come to the Louvre to discover the works in person,” the museum’s director said in his statement.
“I’m generally impressed by the Louvre’s online expansion (扩展), especially since it guides visitors beyond the obvious popular works of art such as Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo," says Suse Anderson, a professor of a Museum Studies at George Washington University, who studies the impact of digital technology on museums. “I’m not the person seeking the hero works. They’re so easy to find. I’m the person who wants to find the unexpected. The Louvre’s online collection helps you see things you might not otherwise. And online, you can leave the noisy crowds of tourists far behind.”

A real-life transforming robot designed to copy the movement of animals that live on Planet Earth will finally change the way other planets will be explored, researchers said.
The robot, called “Morphobot,” was inspired by animals such as birds, meerkats and sea lions, according to a paper published in Nature on Tuesday. Sea lions walk on land using their flippers, meerkats stand on their back legs to look around and chukar birds use their wings to walk on all fours up steep inclines (斜坡).
By copying the ways these animals move, the robot can perform different types of movement to get through its environment, including flying, rolling, balancing, crawling, crouching and tumbling(爬行、蹲伏和翻滚), the researchers said.
The Morphobot was designed to travel over various surfaces on land and in the air by transforming its appendages (附属物) between wheels, propellors (推进器), legs and hands. The robot weighs around 13 pounds, and is about 27.5 inches wide and 13.8 inches tall. It also has four legs, with ducted fans fixed at the leg ends. The fans are able to transition (转变) between functioning as legs, propellors or wheels.
The robot is able to adapt its movements to walk on stony ground, climb steep inclines, tumble over large objects, fly to higher levels and crawl in narrow pathways, Alireza Ramezani, an assistant professor of electrical computer engineering at Northeastern University and author of the study, told ABC News.
When the creation of the Morphobot began, Ramezani, a robotics expert known for his nature-inspired designs, imagined a machine that could move both on the ground and in the air.
Ramezani believes his newest design is the future of space exploration.“I’m confident it is going to replace some traditional mobile robots at NASA,” Ramezani said.“The whole idea is to change the way that future space explorations look.”
