People around the world express gratitude in very different ways. In many Western countries, people say “thank you” dozens of times each day. They mix up being polite with simply speaking polite words. They can’t tell the two ideas clearly apart and think they mean the same thing. For them, this short phrase is a basic part of good manners in daily life.
But are verbal (口头的) thanks always the most important A recent study suggests not. Researchers looked at how people show appreciation in over ten countries. They found that in many cultures, gratitude is shown through actions, not words.
In China, people rarely say “thank you” at home. Instead, they might cook a meal, help with housework, or listen patiently. These quiet acts are seen as true care. Similarly, in some African communities, people show thanks by sharing food or working together.
Ideas about politeness also differ. In Australia, people think saying “thank you” makes relationships friendly and relaxed. In contrast, in parts of South Korea, too many polite words can feel distant. People prefer warm behavior over formal phrases.
Experts say there is no “right” way to give thanks. What matters is understanding cultural differences. Whether through words or actions, gratitude helps people build closer and happier relationships.

When we cut our fingers accidentally, most of us just put a band-aid on the wound. We think small cuts will heal soon without special medical help. However, this idea is not right for everyone.
Healthy teenagers and adults can repair small skin wounds by themselves quickly. But two kinds of people heal wounds much more slowly: old people and those who have high blood sugar. Their blood cannot run smoothly, so the injured skin is hard to get better. A group of scientists has found an easy new way to solve this problem.
Scientists send light weak electric signals to the injured part of the skin. In usual situations, skin cells move around freely with no fixed direction. But under soft electric influence, these cells head for the same place and close the cut quickly.
The scientists did lab tests to check this method. They grew skin cells in small boxes and made tiny cuts on them. The cells were separated into two groups. One group received the soft electric care, while the other got no treatment at all. The test result was clear: the treated wounds only needed one third of the time to heal completely.
Maria Asplund leads this research team. Her team has got money to do more tests on real skin cuts on human bodies. She says firmly, “I believe this electric way can bring good news to people whose wounds take a very long time to heal.” Besides, her team plans to watch how different skin cells react to electric signals, and they will make different treatment plans for different cuts.

Money plays an essential role in our daily lives. It enables us to purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter, allowing us to lead a stable and comfortable life.
However, money is far from everything. While it can buy material goods and expensive gifts, it can never buy true friendship, sincere love or good health — things that are truly priceless and cannot be measured in dollars and cents. These intangible treasures are what make life rich and meaningful.
