The Three Gorges Dam is one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world. It is located on the Yangtze River, the longest river in China. The dam was built to control floods, generate electricity, and improve navigation.
Construction of the dam started in 1994 and was completed in 2006. It took more than 10 years and thousands of workers to build it. The dam is about 2,335 meters long and 185 meters high. It can hold a huge amount of water, which helps to prevent floods in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The hydroelectric power station of the dam generates a lot of clean electricity every year. This electricity is sent to many parts of China, helping to reduce the use of coal and protect the environment.
