Exam stress is a common problem among students. How can we relieve (缓解) exam stress Today let’s look at some great advice from these four students.
Jimmy The best way to relieve exam stress is doing sports. This can make you relaxed and help you feel better for the day. At the same time, eating the right food is also good for your body and mind.

People in a town once went hungry. A rich man who made bread and cakes invited twenty of the poorest children, and told them to take a loaf (条) of bread from a basket every day till the hard days passed.
The hungry children came together excitedly. They argued for the bread, because each wished to have the largest one. Finally, they went away without thanking the good gentleman.
But Gretchen, a poorly-dressed little girl, did not argue or fight with the rest, but remained standing quietly far away from them. When the bad-mannered children left, she took the smallest loaf, which was alone in the basket. Then she kissed the gentleman’s hand, and went home.
The next day, the children were as bad-mannered as before, and poor shy Gretchen brought a smaller loaf than the one she got the first day. When she came home, her mother cut the loaf open. Many new shining pieces of silver (银子) fell out of it.
Her mother was very surprised and worried, and said, “Take the money back to the good gentleman at once, for it must have got into the dough (生面团) by mistake. Be quick, Gretchen! Be quick!”
But when the little girl gave the rich man her mother’s message, he said, “No, no, my child, it was no mistake. I put the silver pieces into the smallest loaf to give you. Always be as satisfied, quiet, and thankful as you are now. Go home now, and tell your mother that the money is yours now.”

Hail (冰雹) usually happens in summer or during the spring-to-summer transition (过渡). The size of hailstones (雹块) can be very different—some are as small as beans, while others are as big as eggs or even bigger than grapefruits.
A team of researchers from Western University found a really big hailstone by chance while watching storms in Alberta. This hailstone was five inches (英寸) wide and weighed over half a pound (磅), setting a record in Canada, though not worldwide. Meteorologist (气象学家) Ian Giammanco said that it wasn’t necessary to be too scared of hail before, but it was becoming larger and more dangerous. While climate change might be one of the reasons, experts think that human activities could also play a role in these changes. Scientists are still studying why this is happening, hoping to better predict where and when big hail will fall.
To stay safe during hail, here are some easy tips. Put things and animals in safe places. If you’re outside, find shelter fast and use something to cover your head. If you don’t have anything, use your arms. If you’re driving, park your car under a firm (结实的) shelter right away. By being prepared and knowing what to do, we can all stay safe when hail comes our way. So, next time you hear about a hailstorm, just remember these simple steps to protect yourself and those around you.
8. What can we know about the big hailstone found in Alberta
A.It is the largest hailstone around the world.
B.It broke the record of hailstones in Canada.
C.It weighed less than half a pound.
9. What do the underlined words “these changes” refer to in the text
A.Scientists change their goals.
B.Human behaviour becomes different.
C.Hailstones are becoming bigger and more dangerous.
10. If Mike meets hail outside, what should he do to stay safe
A.Drive his car quickly. B.Run home quickly. C.Protect his head from getting hurt.
11. How does the writer organize this passage
A.Introduce hail (介绍) → Analyze (分析) changes → Offer (提供) safety advice
B.Tell a story → Show opinions → Make a short conclusion (结论)
C.Compare different weathers → Explain facts → Give examples

①Giving gifts is a way to show your care, but the rules for giving gifts are different in different places. Learning these customs helps you get along better with others.
②In France, flowers are considered nice gifts-except white chrysanthemums (菊花). They are used to mourn (悼念) the dead. A box of chocolates is good. When you get a gift, open it at once and give your thanks to the giver.
③In Mexico, people like making handmade gifts, like a painted cup. They give gifts on birthdays or festivals. Meanwhile, they smile and say some kind words. The value isn’t in the price, but in the thoughtfulness behind it.
④In Japan, giving gifts is very common. People give small things after trips, like snacks. They wrap (包) gifts in colourful paper and sometimes tie a bow (系蝴蝶结). When you get a gift, say “Thank you!” quietly. Don’t open it in front of the giver.
⑤In China, people often give tea or fruit. When you visit Chinese friends, small gifts like apples are good. They use red paper to wrap gifts because red symbolizes good luck. But don’t give clocks. Some think clocks are not good because “giving a clock” translates as “送钟 (song zhong)” “送钟” sounds like “送终 (song zhong)”—a term meaning “performing funeral rites” in Chinese. Also, avoid giving pears, as “pears” translates as “梨” (li). “梨” sounds like “离” (li)—a character meaning “separation” in Chinese. Sharing a pear is especially unlucky-it means parting!
⑥Knowing these differences helps you avoid making mistakes. It shows your respect for others’ customs. This makes giving gifts really meaningful, no matter where you are.
12. If Peter received a gift from his French friend, what should he do
A.Refuse it politely. B.Open it later at home. C.Open it at once and say thanks to his friend.
13. What does the underlined sentence in the text probably mean
A.Expensive gifts are better than cheap ones. B.The gift should be wrapped beautifully. C.The true value of a gift is the love and care you show.
14. How are gifts usually wrapped in Japan
A.In a red bag. B.In white paper. C.In a pretty paper with a bow.
15. What is the structure of the text (①=Paragraph 1,…)
