Pauline grew up in Mombo, Tanzania, with wonderful memories of the local forest. “Back in 2004, I visited
the forest with my grandfather often,” he recalled. “It was fresh, with many birds, eagles and flowing water sources.”
He left for studies and returned to find a totally different scene — greyer trees, fewer animals and scarce water.
Life for locals became much harder, especially for families depending on the forest for fuel and food.
The problem was clear: the forest was dying, and people struggled without enough water. “Women now walk
9 km just to get water,” Pauline said. He found the main causes: climate change, overgrazing (过 度 放 牧 ),
deforestation and overuse of forest resources. Fires from nearby farms also destroyed large forest areas, breaking
the natural balance and making water patterns changeable.
To fix this, Pauline’s organization “Social Community Forum” took action. They mixed reforestation with
community support: planting native trees like Albizia to restore water cycles, and growing mangoes, avocados and
vegetables to meet food needs and make money. They also taught locals about environmental protection in schools
and village meetings. “We need to reduce dependence on the forest,” Pauline explained. Women’s groups managed
nurseries, and students joined tree-planting activities eagerly.
Nowadays, rare (罕见的) birds like sunbirds and eagles are returning as the forest recovers, and some water
sources are flowing again — women now spend less time collecting water. “When I see young trees growing, I
see life for the community,” Pauline smiled. His work not only saves the forest but also rebuilds the relationship
between people and nature, ensuring future generations of Mombo can enjoy the same rich forest he once knew.
For Pauline, recovery is an attempt at preserving memories, rebuilding the relationship between people and
nature and ensuring that future generations in Mombo inherit a forest that still feels alive. “If the forest could speak,”
Pauline says, “it would only speak about life.”
24. What does the underlined word “scarce” in paragraph 1 probably mean

As I walked around the large green sculpture (雕塑), watching how shade and light changed as I moved, I felt
my stress drop quickly. Reclining Mother and Child by Henry Moore carries a strong sense of peace. I could
imagine the mother and child enjoying the beautiful gardens where they sat, just as I was enjoying the quiet
moment.
The sculpture is one of 30 of Moore’s works shown at Kew Gardens in London for the show Henry Moore:
Monumental Nature, which runs until 31 January. Looking at the smooth lines of the metal sculptures, I could
easily see Moore’s deep inspiration from the natural world. Some works reminded me of seeds (种子) or sheep
with their young. Others with connecting shapes clearly brought bones to mind.
Moore’s clever use of holes and empty spaces allows visitors to see the art and the gardens from new and
different angles (角 度 ) as they walk around. Works like Double Oval beautifully surround the garden’s old
buildings or tall treetops in special ways, creating a lovely mix of art and nature.
The show inside the Shirley Sherwood Gallery also provides a clear look at Moore’s creative process. His
drawings and artworks about bones and trees help visitors understand where his special non-realistic shapes came
from and how he developed his own artistic style over the years.
Another beautiful site, Wakehurst, will display four more of Moore’s works from June 5 as part of Henry
Moore and More. The area is covered with lovely bluebells in April and May, and the show closes in May 2027. It
is truly a wonderful experience to enjoy excellent man-made art and wonderful natural beauty at the same time,
making the visit well worth the time and effort for every art and nature lover.
28. What effect did Reclining Mother and Child have on the author
A. It made her feel relaxed. B. It reminded her of her childhood.
C. It increased her sense of pressure. D. It encouraged her to create sculptures.
29. What can we learn about Moore’s works from Paragraph 2
A. Most of them are about farm animals.
B. They are mainly displayed indoors.
C. Nature is a major source of his ideas.
D. Their styles are totally different.
30. What does the author say about holes in Moore’s sculptures
A. They make the bronzes look lighter. B. They offer different viewing experiences.
C. They show respect for traditional skills. D. They represent empty space in nature.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To introduce a sculptor’s works and exhibitions.
B. To explain how to enjoy outdoor works of art.
C. To compare two famous gardens in London.
D. To attract more volunteers to Kew Gardens.

A new study finds that bumblebees (大黄蜂) can use things around them to work out difficult problems they’
ve never met before. This shows that even with small brains, these bees can think in more difficult ways than
people usually think.
A famous 1913 experiment with chimpanzees (大猩猩) gave scientists the idea. The animals stacked (叠放)
boxes to reach a banana that was too high. This ability to use objects to solve new problems is called “insight”, and
few animals are known to have it.
Researchers in Finland designed a similar test for bumblebees. They built a low round space (only 3.2
centimeters tall) where bees couldn’t fly or reach the top from the floor — ensuring the only way to succeed was
using the foam (泡沫) ball. First, the bees spent several days getting familiar with the setup: they learned that a blue
dot on the floor had sweet food as a reward, and they often touched and pushed the foam ball out of curiosity before
realizing it could roll.
In the final test, the blue dot was moved to the top of the space. Holes were made in the floor, and one was
right under the dot. The bees needed to roll the ball into that hole to stand on it and reach the reward, with many
trying a few gentle pushes before getting the ball in the right spot.
About 73% of young bees solved the puzzle, even though they’d never seen anything like it. To make sure it
wasn’t luck, scientists hid the dot behind a small wall. The bees still found the right way, showing their solution
was deliberate (深思熟虑的).
The study proves that bumblebees have insight (认知能力) and can come up with clever solutions to new
challenges, despite their small brains. This finding helps scientists better understand how small-brained creatures
develop problem-solving abilities, offering new clues about animal intelligence.
32. What does the new study mainly tell us about bumblebees
A. They prefer sweet food from blue dots.
B. They can fly higher than any of the other bees.
C. They have better problem-solving skills than thought.
D. They can remember places with food for a long time.
33. Why did scientists mention the 1913 chimpanzee experiment
A. To prove animals love solving puzzles.
B. To explain how the bee test was designed.
C. To show chimpanzees are smarter than bees.
D. To introduce a new way of doing experiments.
34. What did scientists do to ensure the bees used the foam ball
A. They made the blue dot hard to find.
B. They trained bees to stack objects first.
C. They hid the sweet reward under the floor.
D. They built a low space where bees couldn’t fly.
35. What can we infer from the experiment results
A. Bees’ success depended on luck at first.
B. Older bees are better at solving puzzles.
C. Bees learn skills faster than other insects.
D. Insight isn’t limited to large-brained animals.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
America’s milk industry is facing an unusual problem: a record amount of cheese in storage. According to
recent data, milk producers are storing about 1.4 billion pounds of cheese, the highest level in nearly 100 years of
tracking.
The main reason lies in the imbalance between supply and demand. 36 This allows cows to produce
more milk than ever before. At the same time, Americans are drinking much less milk than they did decades ago
— choosing plant-based drinks like soy or almond milk instead. In 1975, the average person drank around 29
gallons (加仑) of milk a year. 37
To deal with the extra milk, dairy companies turn it into cheese. 38 Unlike fresh milk, cheese can be
stored for months without going bad, giving companies more time to find buyers. However, changing consumer
tastes have made this task harder. Cheddar used to be America’s favorite cheese, but since 2010, Mozzarella has
become more popular, especially for pizza. Americans are also trying new kinds of cheese from Europe and Asia,
and many of these new choices are brought in from other countries.
39 Back in 2016, a similar situation happened, and the government bought 11 million pounds of extra
cheese and gave it to people who needed help. But this time, the extra amount is much larger — enough to make a
cheese wheel the size of a famous landmark.
The surplus (过剩) has greatly affected dairy farmers. For farmers, low milk prices result in reduced income.
40 Finding a solution to this surplus will require balancing production with changing consumer habits.
A. Some have even had to close their farms.
B. By 2017, that number had dropped to 17 gallons.
C. Cheese production is more profitable than selling fresh milk.
D. This method seems practical because of cheese’s long shelf life.
E. Plant-based milk products are healthier than traditional dairy milk.
F. This is not the first time that the US has faced a lot of extra cheese.
G. Dairy farmers have improved their ways of raising and feeding cows.

The Unforgotten Notebook
It was the second week of high school, and I was still getting used to the busy hallway crowds and new class
times. One afternoon, I hurried to math class with my backpack hanging over one shoulder. Suddenly, a girl in front
of me tripped and fell. Her books and papers spread across the smooth floor like fallen leaves. A lined notebook —
with little star drawings on its cover — slid far away and stopped near my feet.
I knew she was Lily, the new student who’d joined our class three days before. She hardly said a word in class,
always sitting alone at the back. Her head was often down, as if she wanted to hide against the wall. Now, her face
turned bright red. She knelt (跪) down quickly, trying to pick up her things in a hurry. Many students walked past,
some stepping over her papers without even looking. I saw fear in her eyes — she would be late for class, and she
looked like she might cry.
Without thinking, I got down to help. “Here,” I said, giving her the star notebook. “Let’s get these together
fast.” She looked up, surprised. Then she whispered a quiet “thank you.” We worked quickly, piling her textbooks
and pushing loose papers into her folder. When we stood up, the class bell rang — loud and sharp — but I smiled.
“Math is in Room 302, right I’ll go with you.”
As we walked fast down the hallway, Lily started to talk softly. She told me she’d gotten lost twice that
morning. “I’m really bad with finding my way,” she laughed, playing with her schoolbag belt nervously. When we
got to the classroom door, she turned to me: Her eyes looked warm and kind. “You didn’t have to help me. Most
people just … kept walking.” I shrugged (耸肩) and smiled: “That’s what classmates are for, right ”

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
We went into the classroom together, and I invited her to sit next to me.
From that day on, we became inseparable.
