In classrooms and school board meetings across the U.S., a new generation of climate activists is making its voice heard. Teenagers, fed up with inaction on climate change, are leading a movement to retrofit (翻新) schools with eco-friendly upgrades.
Ila Coleman, 17, a senior at Grant High School in Portland, first got involved after learning her school spent $32,000 annually on electricity. “We knew we had to act.” Coleman and her classmates founded the “Green Grant (拨款)” club, researched energy-saving options, and presented a detailed proposal to the Portland Public Schools board. Their efforts paid off: the district approved $1.2 million in funding for retrofitting the school, which includes installing solar panels and upgrading lighting systems. Since last year, the school’s energy bills have dropped by 35%, and carbon emissions have fallen by 28%.
“We’re not just saving money — we’re teaching the school community about sustainability,” Coleman said. The club now leads monthly workshops on recycling, composting, and climate science, and has partnered with local environmental groups to plant native trees on campus. “Students used to ask, ‘What can one person do about climate change ’ Now they’re seeing tangible results from their own actions.”
“The passion and creativity of these young activists is remarkable,” said Dr. Lena Torres, an environmental scientist who works with student groups. “When students see solar panels on their roof or learn how to track energy use, they’re more likely to adopt sustainable habits at home.” The movement has also gained support from educators. Many teachers have integrated climate science and sustainability into their lesson plans. “My students are more engaged when they’re learning about something that’s happening right outside their classroom,” said a biology teacher.
24. What do we know about Ila Coleman
A.She leaves sustainability behind.
B.She is an initiator of Green Grant.
C.She helped secure 1.2 million club fund.
D.She gathered proposals to the school board.
25. What is the main purpose of the Green Grant Club
A.To advocate eco-awareness.
B.To hold monthly workshops.
C.To partner with local groups.
D.To reduce school running cost.
26. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Students adopt the habits to track energy use.
B.Teen activists are less keen about environment.
C.Teachers find a new way to engage students in class.
D.Scientists and educators think little of the movement.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Sustainability Always Goes First
B.Solar Energy Bears Bright Prospects

ChatGPT has been described as having impressive, humanlike skills — writing academic essays and fairy tales, telling jokes, explaining scientific concepts, and composing computer code. Researchers were curious to see how smart ChatGPT was by human standards, so they gave it an IQ test.
The AI turned out to be a perfect test taker free from test anxiety or negative attitudes toward exams. It got full marks in all five parts without difficulty. In the Vocabulary test, it gave precise definitions of words like “gadget”. It also topped the Information test covering general knowledge. However, when doing the Similarities test asking for shared features of fictional roles, it tended to give unnecessarily long detailed answers. Besides, it correctly solved practical questions in the Comprehension part and all calculation problems in Arithmetic. Finally, ChatGPT scored 155 in IQ, ahead of 99.9% of human testees, far above the average score of college-educated people. Even the researchers scored lower in the same test.
Nevertheless, a high IQ doesn’t equal true human intelligence. ChatGPT fails to handle riddles calling for natural logical thinking. For example, it couldn’t figure out a simple riddle about Sebastian’s kid’s father, for it only searched its stored online data instead of reasoning.
According to classic theories, IQ tests measure a general factor of human intelligence. Yet ChatGPT’s contradictory performance — outstanding test scores paired with poor real-world reasoning — challenges the traditional definition of intelligence. It proves IQ tests cannot measure all sides of true intelligence, which may cast doubt on the reliability of IQ tests.
28. What is the first paragraph mainly about
A.Research theory.
B.Research method.
C.Research process.
D.Research background.
29. In which test did the AI perform imperfectly
A.Vocabulary.
B.Information.
C.Similarities.
D.Comprehension.
30. Why does ChatGPT fail to solve the riddles
A.The riddles are boring.
B.It lacks online data.
C.The riddles are illogical.
D.It lacks reasoning ability.
31. What does the underlined word “It” refer to in the last sentence
A.ChatGPT’s performance.
B.True human intelligence level.
C.The reliability of IQ tests.
D.Traditional definition of intelligence.

Every December, my house turns into the island of unwanted gifts. People are kind, but there are only so many candied nut tins, popcorn towers, and sugar cookies one family can consume.
Let us not forget my wedding-regift incident. We received a very expensive electric teakettle. We don’t drink tea, so we returned it to the store and got $75. Later, the store manager called, furious, accusing us of trading them a piece of junk. Someone had bought the kettle and discovered, inside the box, an obviously used cut-glass Easter basket. It turned out that person had regifted it to us. We paid the store back and were handed that ugly Easter basket.
This made me wonder: Is regifting a form of rudeness To find out, let’s explore both sides of the regifting debate.
First of all, humans have been regifting since the dawn of time. Caveman A gives Caveman B a rock; Caveman B gives it to Caveman C. Anthropologists would call it culture. In modern life, it’s just efficient. Why let a brand-new item sit unopened in a cupboard when someone else would use it It’s economical. It's environmentally friendly. It’s basically the circle of life.
And yet regifting is a high-risk sport. It requires memory and strategy. Give the gift to the wrong person, and suddenly you get the text: “Didn’t I give this to you ” Regifting can go terribly wrong if you misjudge a person’s taste — or their social circle. The golden rules: never regift within the same social ecosystem, remove all evidence (cards, receipts, etc.), and be sure the item is new and unused. Ultimately, the key is to match the gift to the person — so never give spa products to someone who hates lotions.
My official ruling Regifting is not rude. Thoughtlessness is rude. Waste is rude. But passing along something new, unused and suited to someone else’s preferences is generosity in its most practical, planet-friendly form. So go ahead — regift joyfully, wisely and guilt-free. After all, someone out there really needs those candied nuts.
32. What does the underlined word “furious” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Confused.
B.Relieved.
C.Annoyed.
D.Shocked.
33. Why does the author mention “Caveman” in the text
A.To show the long history of regifting.
B.To introduce the early form of regifting.
C.To highlight the economic benefits of regifting.
D.To explain the cultural importance of regifting.
34. Which of the following might be a successful regifting
A.Sending a spa product to a newcomer.
B.Returning a used kettle to a local store.
C.Giving a brand-new scarf to a new friend.
D.Sharing home-made candies with a neighbor.
35. What is a suitable title for the text
A.Does regifting make sense
B.Is regifting actually rude
C.What's the power of regifting
D.Why is regifting high-risk

A fierce hurricane struck the coastal city where my aunt lived when I was nine. The wind howled wildly, tearing roofs off houses and uprooting trees. Heavy rain kept pouring down for hours, resulting in severe flooding and huge losses. Although our city was not directly hit, the strong wind and heavy rain made us share their sufferings. Unluckily, other nearby cities, however, suffered far more from the disaster.
One of my most vivid memories was when I watched the evening news with my family. A reporter was broadcasting from a local stadium, which served as a temporary shelter for hurricane survivors. Thousands of homeless people crowded around him. Most were dressed in torn and muddy clothes, and worse still, many had to walk barefoot. Exhausted and heartbroken, some rested on extremely simple beds, while others could only lie on the cold hard floor, their faces full of sorrow, tiredness and hopelessness. The impact of the hurricane was worse than I expected.
“Did the terrible hurricane drive them away from their homes ” I asked curiously. My mom nodded gently and sighed. “Yes, Hector. All these people are from New Orleans. The powerful storm ruined their homes and possessions. Sadly, many of them have lost everything they once owned. For the time being, the stadium works as their temporary home. It is a place for them to stay until it becomes safe enough to return to their own hometowns.”
As I kept staring at the TV screen, a little boy immediately caught my eye. He was sitting alone in a quiet corner of the stadium, holding an old, dirty teddy bear tightly in his arms. His pale face was filled with fear and loneliness, as if the worn toy was his only comfort left after the disaster. I seemed to feel his deep sorrow right through the screen. Right then and there, I made up my mind to do something, with that poor little boy as my first concern.

Dear Jenny,
I strongly suggest we choose English Drama as our optional course.
First, acting plays can improve our oral English and pronunciation naturally. Besides, working in groups to prepare dramas helps us develop teamwork skills. Unlike speeches which focus on individual performance, dramas are more lively and relaxing. We can also learn about different foreign cultures through various play scripts.
I believe most classmates will love this interesting course.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写范文
The next day, my friends and I gathered at our volunteer club. We discussed how we could offer help to the homeless survivors. We decided to collect clean clothes, snacks and soft toys from our neighbors. I specially took my favorite new teddy bear for the lonely little boy on TV. Soon we filled several big bags with warm supplies and set off for the stadium together.
When we entered the stadium with our gifts, I quickly spotted the shy little boy. I walked straight to him and handed the new teddy bear to him. His eyes lit up with surprise and joy. We chatted softly and I comforted him patiently. Watching him hug the bear tightly, I realized small kindness could bring great warmth to people suffering from disasters.
