Do you want to know what your pet dog or cat is trying to say A Chinese company (公司) named Baidu wants to help us understand our pets better. Baidu is famous for its search engine (搜索引擎), just like Google. Now, it is working on a cool new thing.
Baidu is making an AI system. This system can turn animal sounds and actions into words we can understand. How does it work First, it will collect lots of information from animals. It will listen to their barks, meows, and other sounds. It will also watch how they move. Then, the AI will look at all this information together. It wants to know if the animal is happy, scared, or hurt. After that, it will change these feelings into words for us. Baidu hopes this will help pet owners take better care of their pets.
People always dream of talking to animals. Now, with new technology, it may come true soon. On the Internet, you can see many videos. In these videos, dogs use special boards with buttons (按钮). Each button has a word like “play” or “hungry”. The dogs press the buttons to tell their owners what they want. But some scientists doubt (怀疑) whether the dogs really know what the buttons mean. Maybe they are just copying their owners.
Baidu’s new invention (发明) is still being studied. But it has already made many people interested. On Chinese social media like Weibo, people are excited but also a bit careful. One person said, “It sounds great, but we need to see if it really works.” Others are thinking if this technology can help wild animals too.

Lots of wild animals often do babysitting duty. Young female (雌性) elephants without babies like to help guide and take care of baby elephants.
These days, a team of researchers at the Southwest Forestry University in China noticed that during the breeding (繁殖) season, black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys passed around their babies a lot. The monkeys would take turns (轮流) to carry or even feed the newborns.
This action made the researchers think of how people help to babysit for each other. So they decided to watch the monkeys more closely. They followed the group for six months and recorded more than 400 scenes (场景). The records showed that female monkeys interacted (互动) with monkey mothers and babies or softly pulled the babies closer.
Once the newborns grew up a little bigger, the mothers would allow other females to take care of them. They made their decisions according to who had the most caring experience. After a more experienced monkey stopped her babysitting duty, the younger females with less experience would still be allowed to look after the babies.
Cui Chunyan is one of the researchers in the study. She mentioned that this helps the younger females to learn more about caring to prepare them for having their own babies in the future. She also said that we still needed to do more research to find out if mothers make their choices according to the social status (地位) of other monkeys or whether they are family members.

第二节 作文
书面表达范文
How to get on well with others
Our school did a survey about how students get on with others. Most students think we should be honest and ready to help people around us. Some students say it’s important to learn to listen to others patiently. Only a few students think it’s enough to just be polite.
In my opinion, listening is the key to good relationships. When our friends share their feelings, we should listen carefully instead of cutting them off. Besides, we need to learn to understand and respect different ideas. If we disagree with others, we can talk calmly rather than argue. If we do these things, we can make more friends and get along well with everyone.
