Courage is a huge theme in my life, a quality I constantly seek, appreciate, and analyze. The root of “courage” is “cor”, the Latin word for heart. Originally, courage meant “to speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart”. While courage is often associated with heroism nowadays, I believe true courage lies in being open and honest about who we are and how we feel.
I recently witnessed an example of true courage. During a mountain-climbing trip with my 15-year-old daughter and some college students, I noticed her struggling to keep up with the group. Despite my suggestions to rest, she persisted until she couldn’t breathe properly.
Panicked, I called out to the front for help, but there was no response, and we had no cellphone signal. Fortunately, two students just came back to check on us. They offered assistance and calmed us down. As we continued at a slower pace, they shared their own experiences, from starting out as beginners like my daughter to becoming consistently among the first to reach the peak.
“You know,” one of them said, looking at my daughter, “I was just like you when I started. But with practice and proper pace, you’ll get there too.”
“Yeah, don’t let your lack of experience stop you,” the other added. “It’s okay to admit when you’re struggling or not feeling alright. In fact, it’s important to speak up and ask for help when you need it. That’s how we improve and grow.”
Reaching the mountain top was a huge relief for both my daughter and me. However, the two students addressed the celebrating group directly, emphasizing the importance of staying together in tough environments. Their words led the group to apologize to us for overlooking our struggle.
I was totally amazed at their bravery, and my daughter learned that it’s okay to be the least experienced in a group. Courage, I’ve come to realize, has a ripple effect. Each time we choose courage, we inspire those around us to be a little braver and make the world a little better.
24. Why does the author mention the original meaning of courage
A. To question the common belief of courage.
B. To argue for the truth of courage.
C. To display the changing meaning of courage.
D. To analyze different meanings of courage.
25. What did the two students suggest the daughter do
A. Compare herself with other climbers.
B. Keep her struggles to herself.
C. Focus only on reaching the peak quickly.
D. Speak up and ask for help when needed.
26. Which action in the mountain-climbing story is an example of true courage
A. The group apologized to the mother and her daughter.
B. The girl insisted on climbing despite difficulty.
C. The two students pointed out the group’s fault.
D. The group celebrated the reach of the top.
27. What does the author intend to tell us
A. Kindness connects us all.
B. Being a beginner takes courage.
C. We don’t have to be a hero to be brave.
D. With courage, everyone can be perfect.

Tired of standing in line Wait a bit longer, and you may never have to again. Everyone from Amazon to Silicon Valley start-ups is trying to eliminate lines in retail (零售) stores.
Amazon has opened 24 of its Amazon Go stores, which use cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) to see what you’ve taken off shelves and charge you as you walk out. Some start-ups are closely copying Amazon’s approach to using AI-powered cameras fixed in ceilings. But others are trying an entirely different way to skip the checkout: smart shopping carts. These companies have added cameras and sensors to the carts, and are using AI to tell what you’ve placed in them. A built-in scale weighs items, in case you have to pay by the pound for an item. Customers pay by using a credit card, or through an online payment system. When customers exit the store, a green light on the shopping cart indicates that their orders are complete, and they’re charged.
The start-ups behind the smart shopping carts, including Caper and Veeve, say it’s much easier to add technology to the shopping cart than to an entire store. Amazon Go stores rely on hundreds of cameras in the ceiling. The shelves also include sensors to tell when an item is removed. Ahmed Beshry, cofounder of Caper, believes the technology to run Amazon Go is too expensive to use in a large grocery store. Neither Caper nor Veeve has said how much their smart shopping carts will cost, making it difficult to compare the different formats. Shariq Siddiqui, CEO of Veeve, said he’s finding increased interest from retailers given Amazon’s steady expansion of Amazon Go since the first Amazon Go store opened in Seattle in 2018. “We’re always happy when Amazon is doing something,” Siddiqui said. “They force retailers to get out of their old-school thinking.”
Each time a business uses artificial intelligence and cameras, it raises questions about customer privacy and the impact on jobs. Beshry notes that the cameras in his smart shopping cart point down into the cart, so only customers’ hands and part of their arms will be captured (拍摄) by cameras.
28. Which of the following best explains “eliminate” underlined in paragraph 1
A. Shift.
B. Remove.
C. Extend.
D. Break.
29. What do we know about the smart shopping carts
A. They are linked to the cameras fixed in the ceilings.
B. They flash the green light when the order is cancelled.
C. They are capable of recognizing purchases placed in them.
D. They have the ability to tell customers where to find what they want.
30. What does Beshry think of the technology applied in Amazon Go stores
A. It is likely to help retailers to think differently.
B. It has attracted many more retailers than before.
C. It is far more expensive than their smart shopping carts.
D. It may increase the cost of running a large grocery store greatly.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. The New Technology Promotes Retail Sales
B. AI-powered Cameras Are Used in Retail Stores
C. Artificial Intelligence Affects the Future Job Market
D. Smart Shopping Carts Will Let You Skip the Line

The Yellow River is the cradle where China’s civilization first came into being. And flood control and prevention have always been key to the well-being of the people living along it. Now, scientists can better work on these issues by giving the river a digital twin.
The digital twin of the Yellow River uses various technologies, including big data, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. Instruments set up along the river collect and transfer information to the center. Based on the information, a 3D model of the river is presented on the computer screen. It’s like the Yellow River has a twin that reflects its real conditions.
One big breakthrough in the river’s digital management is “smart stones”. According to Wang Qin, a lead researcher at the Information Center of Yellow River in Henan Province, a smart stone is a water-proof stone-shaped instrument with chips, a battery, and a signal transmitter. They are buried in important dike (堤坝) locations to record and report the movement of dike stones. “Upon feeling movement of the dike stones, the smart stone sends an alarm to the center for quick response,” Wang said.
“In the past, researchers had to learn the conditions of the dike on the spot by themselves, putting their lives at risk,” said Zhao Xiao, an official from the Information Center of Yellow River in Henan Province. “Now the smart stones can do this for us, more safely, quickly, and accurately.”
And in the sky, drones (无人机) are flying. On the routes designed by engineers, the drones become expert monitors of the river, looking at its dikes and flood prevention projects. According to Shen Lin from the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, thanks to the drones, researchers at the command center can get first-hand photos and information. “Researchers then update the 3D model according to the changes the drones reported. The new updated model helps us test our floodwater release plans in case we ever need to batten down the hatches (未雨绸缪),” said Shen.
Under the water and up in the sky, intelligence systems are helping to protect the Yellow River Basin on all fronts. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, in the future, we can expect to see the construction of an even more comprehensive digital system for this important river.
32. What is the main purpose of creating a digital twin of the Yellow River
A. To conduct historical research.
B. To create a virtual tourist attraction.
C. To improve flood control and prevention efforts.
D. To raise public awareness of river protection.
33. How do the smart stones contribute to the river’s digital governance
A. They record water quality.
B. They shape the river’s beauty.
C. They monitor and report dike movements.
D. They serve as markers for important locations.
34. What can we infer about the drones’ role in the digital twin system
A. They are mainly used to test floodwater release plans directly.
B. They replace the need for on-site researchers entirely.
C. They work independently without following preset routes.
D. They provide key information for updating the 3D model.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. The digital twin in the governance of the Yellow River.
B. The application of drones in flood prevention.
C. Technological innovations in Yellow River.
D. The importance of flood control along the Yellow River.

For ages, it’s been known that explaining a concept deepens your own understanding. The Roman thinker Seneca once noted, “While we teach, we learn.” ____36____ It shows why teaching is a powerful way to learn and it has led to new methods that allow students to become instructors.
Studies show that students who tutor others work harder, remember better, and use knowledge more effectively than those studying only for themselves. This “learning by teaching” effect is so strong that it even helps explain why older siblings often score higher on IQ tests — they spend time teaching their younger brothers and sisters. ____37____ They have college students teach high school students, who then teach middle school students the same subjects.
The most advanced tool is the “teachable agent”. ____38____ It learns, makes mistakes, and asks questions. For example, a character named Betty’s Brain has been taught science by many middle school students. The students must organize their knowledge clearly and correct misunderstandings in order to teach Betty successfully. ____39____
____40____ Its questions make tutors think differently, and watching it solve problems lets students see their knowledge in action. Most importantly, the emotions involved — frustration when the agent fails, and pride when it succeeds — deepen the learning experience and strengthen memory.
A. Researchers support this idea.
B. Educators are now using this idea in schools.
C. It is a computer program that acts like a real student.
D. Modern science now confirms this ancient wisdom.
E. The teachable agent also provides helpful feedback.
F. This process deepens their own understanding.
G. The experiences in teaching facilitate learning.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
What my father wore embarrassed me! I wanted him to dress like a doctor or lawyer, but he always dressed like my father, getting up before dawn every day to make breakfast for my mother and me.
We lived in South Texas, where my father worked as a repairman. He often wore a pair of jeans and a shirt, keeping his pencils, glasses and wrenches (扳手) in his breast pocket. His boots were those with steel toes that made them difficult to pull off his feet, which I sometimes helped him with when he returned from repairing cars — his job that also shamed me.
I blamed the way he dressed. I felt that my classmates laughed at me because they’d seen him moving lawns (修剪草坪) in cut-off jeans and black boots. My classmates’ families paid men to beautify their lawns, while their fathers travelled in the bay wearing lemon-yellow sweaters and expensive shoes.
He preferred clothes that allowed him the freedom to move under cars. So even when taking part in a school trip with me, he was dressed in his repairman’s suit. On the school bus to the campsite, all students on the bus happily chatted with their parents except me, who lowered the head, avoiding spotting my classmates’ mocking (讥笑 ) glance or hearing their jokes, which I thought was about nothing else but what my father wore.
I regretted telling my parents the school trip, and I was very angry why my mother had no spare time while my father happened to have a vacation. But my father failed to read my mind. He was very happy, whistling a tune along the way.
Though my father didn’t sense my bad mood, the school bus seemed as sad as I was. It drove more and more slowly and finally it stopped on the roadside. The driver got out to check the bus but found nothing wrong. Students and parents on the bus began to whisper about what was happening, worried that the delay might spoil the journey.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卷的相应位置作答。
When others were complaining, my father stood up.

Dear Peter,
I was delighted to learn of your interest in our school’s recent exhibition on Traditional Chinese Cuisine Culture. I’m very happy to share the details with you.
The exhibition offered a rich experience through three main parts. First, there were live demonstrations of making classic dishes like dumplings and mooncakes. Second, we displayed beautiful historical tableware which came from various dynasties. Finally, interactive tea culture sessions allowed visitors to learn about and taste different Chinese teas.
I truly believe this event helped us all appreciate the depth of our food heritage more deeply. I hope we can enjoy some traditional food together in the future!
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写范文
When others were complaining, my father stood up. Dressed in his repairman’s suit, he had jumped off the school bus without hesitation before I could stop him. “Another chance to be laughed at.” I thought to myself. He examined the bus carefully, using his pencils, glasses and wrenches in his breast pocket. It was quite a long time before he was back on the bus again, his hands smeared with oil but a broad smile on his face. He told the driver that there was something wrong with the engine, but now it was ok.
The school bus restarted and everyone cheered. All the parents thumbed up to show their appreciation and those who once mocked me even smiled at me with admiration. I hugged my father tightly for a minute. Only then did I feel proud though he still wore those plain clothes. I finally understood one can’t be judged by what he or she wears. I no longer envy others having a father dressed smartly. I love my father, who teaches the profound truth: It is one’s character, not what one wears that really matters.
