As night falls in the rainforests, orangutans (猩猩) climb into their tree homes. Building homes is necessary for survival. Unlike many behaviors in animals, this skill is neither completely natural nor quickly learned. Orangutans use strong hands to work with sticks and leaves, and decide what to use and how to put materials together. Night nests (巢穴) are much richer than day nests. They can have soft coverings and even a roof. Building these nests takes basic skills, and also requires remembering many steps in the right order.
Researchers recorded that young orangutans who fixed their eyes on their mothers during nest-building were far more likely to practice soon afterward. Just being nearby without watching closely did not have the same effect. Young orangutans need to care about the detailed parts: nests built across several trees and how to make the nests comfortable. After observing these, young orangutans increased their practice. At first, they mostly learn from their mothers, but as they grow older, they begin watching other group members, thereby absorbing fresh methods.
“Aside from learning how to build a nest, young orangutans also appear to understand which materials are suitable for use.” said Dr. Caroline Schuppli of Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior. The choice of tree species is important. Interestingly, grown-up orangutans usually go back to the nest materials used by their mothers, even if they tried other kinds during their youth. This is likely because they recognize that the most effective methods have already been proven in their community.
“Our study shows that wild orangutan populations hold cultural traditions that could be lost without clear actions to stop the ongoing destruction (破坏) of their habitat,” Dr. Schuppli noted. “It highlights not just the mental ability of orangutans but also their cultural traditions that depend on a safe living environment. Protecting these traditions is our duty: future orangutans should be able to watch and learn from experienced elders, and that calls for our collective efforts now.”
56. What can we learn about orangutans’ nest-building behavior
A. It depends heavily on tools.
B. It shows problem-solving skills.
C. It copies some human behavior.
D. It requires strong team spirit.
57. What plays a key role in young orangutans’ nest-building learning
A. Focused attention.

C. Family support.
D. Natural talent.
58. What does the underlined word “absorbing” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Depending on.
B. Turning down.
C. Taking in.
D. Giving up.
59. The example of orangutans’ material choice shows _______.
A. material use is environmentally driven
B. certain practices are spread by social learning
C. continuous exploration leads to creativity
D. group communication can shape building habits
60. What does Dr. Schuppli mainly stress about orangutans in the last paragraph
A. Effective steps to change their living habits.
B. Their role in keeping a balanced ecosystem.
C. Their ability to learn from experienced elders.
D. Immediate action to protect their natural homes.

For centuries, we’ve pursued happiness and meaning. But what does that leave out As a social psychologist, I have dedicated my research career to a simple, but universal question: what makes for a good life, and how can we achieve it
For much of human history, we have been presented with two possibilities: pursuing a life of happiness, or a life of meaning. Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have also revealed their limits.
Ask the Danes and Finns, who consistently rank among the happiest people in the world, what their secret is and they’ll tell you this: lower your expectations and be content with what you have. It sounds good, doesn’t it But it leaves something out. It’s a bit like being a college student who only takes easy courses to be sure of getting good grades. Might there be more to life than simple pleasures and cozy comfort
Then there’s the meaningful life. We often imagine that meaning flows from trying to change the world like Steve Jobs. Once again, the research shows that lowering your sights and focusing on the little things can offer a more achievable sense of meaning. Often people find it in routines like taking care of family, or volunteering in the community. But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning: researchers have found that it can encourage people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.
My research lab mapped out a third route to fulfillment: psychological richness. A psychologically rich life is one filled with diverse, unusual and interesting experiences that change your perspective; a life with twists and turns; a life that feels like a long, winding hike rather than many laps of the same racing circuit. Such experiences can make us tougher. Not only that, embracing the pursuit of psychological richness can make us less likely to regret: it matters less if the thing you did went wrong.
Perhaps no one said it better than Eleanor Roosevelt: “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear .”
61. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph
A. To introduce the author’s professional background and research focus
B. To criticize traditional views on happiness
C. To present statistical data on life satisfaction
D. To compare Eastern and Western philosophies
62. What is revealed about pursuing happiness or meaning
A. Their benefits outweigh the limits.
B. They are equally difficult to achieve.
C. Both paths have limits despite their benefits.
D. Most people prioritize happiness over meaning.
63. What does the example of “a college student” show in paragraph 3
A. Gratitude is essential for a happy life.
B. We should live up to others’ expectations.
C. Happiness requires academic achievement.
D. Life means more than leisure and comfort.
64. What can be inferred from paragraph 4 about the pursuit of meaning
A. Its negative effect might weaken social unity in the long run.
B. It is more achievable through grand ambitions than small actions.
C. Volunteering is the most effective way to gain a sense of meaning.
D. People who pursue meaning often neglect their family responsibilities.
65. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article
A. To promote Roosevelt’s life philosophy.
B. To introduce a new concept of life fulfillment.
C. To criticize traditional psychological research.
D. To compare different cultural views on happiness.

Fatema’s love for volleyball started when she was nine years old in Iran because of encouragement from her uncle. Fatema didn’t have anywhere to play volleyball when she arrived in Australia, so she worked with community leaders to set up after-school matches in the local area. The community volleyball matches continued for three months and allowed Fatema to show her qualities as a skillful team player and leader among her peers.
Fatema believes that she needs to play in a professional club. However, as training sessions and matches are often in the evenings, the timing is not convenient for her because she can’t use public transport at that time. The club registration cost is also a problem. Fatema is a thoughtful girl and doesn’t want to put a financial strain on her family, so she continues to look for after-school work to earn money that could help cover the club registration costs and other expenses.
While she hasn’t joined a volleyball club yet, Fatema has joined the Dandenong Women’s Sports Hub for volleyball sessions run by the Centre for Multicultural Youth after school. Moslih, the coach, is inspired by her positive attitude towards various challenges since Fatema arrived in Australia.
Moslih said,“I have seen Fatema in every volleyball class we’ve had! Fatema has proven to me how determined she is to realize her dream of playing volleyball, and it just makes me want to support her in every way that I can. I have not only seen her progress in her skills, but also her confidence and hard work. She is always the first to show up and the last to leave.”
Fatema is a multi-talented young person. She can play the guitar skillfully. She is studying at high school and is aiming to become a police officer in the future. But her current goal is to earn some money through an after-school job to financially support her participation in the volleyball club.

Youth & Technology: Shaping Tomorrow
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!
It’s my great honor to deliver a speech here. Modern technology has greatly changed my life. Online resources help me study efficiently, while convenient digital tools make daily life much easier.
As teenagers, we can take part in technological creation in many ways. We can observe daily problems, carry out small experiments, take part in science competitions and exchange creative ideas with partners. Small creative thoughts can finally turn into valuable inventions.
Technology’s future belongs to young people. Let’s stay curious, dare to think and create. Let us use technology to build a brighter tomorrow.
