When my children were younger, we used to walk along a road near the lake.
One spring day, my daughter and I noticed just how much trash was lying along the road. So the next day, we brought a big trash bag with us and started to slowly pick them up along the way. There were pop cans, plastic water bottles, empty chip bags, pieces of broken fishing line and even an old shoe. We stopped and picked up each one and even fished a few pieces of trash out of the lake.
By the time we had circled the lake, the bag was nearly full. We felt tired, yet we experienced a sense of achievement. Before we headed home, we took one last look at the lake. The sun was setting and it looked more beautiful than ever.
I understand that the world’s problems can sometimes feel too big and you wonder what you can do to make a difference. But the truth is, everything you do makes a difference! Picking up even one piece of trash helps the world. Sharing a smile brightens (照亮) someone’s day. Saying kind words spreads warmth. Thinking kindly is powerful. Giving a hug can bring comfort. Planting a flower adds beauty. Saving an animal shows care. No matter how small your actions are, they can make the world a better place.

“I know my brothers would, with dogwood spray (茱萸) in hand, climb up the mountain and miss me so far away.”
This line from a poem by Wang Wei talks about the tradition of wearing dogwood during Chongyang Festival. In Shangcai County, Henan, an important birthplace of Chongyang culture, people wear dogwood packets on this day for good health and luck. The small bags are filled with dogwood and other herbs (草药) . Traditional packets are shaped like the 12 birth animals.
In 2006, the skill of making dogwood packets was listed as a hidden cultural tradition in Henan. Shao Shuyuan, 28, is an inheritor of the skill. She started learning to make them when she was 10 years old.
Although dogwood packets are traditional, Shao tries to make them into something new and different. She once got ideas from Li Shangyin’s poem and made a beautiful butterfly-shaped dogwood packet called Xiaomengdie. In March, she showed it at CCTV’s Chinese Poetry Conference.
Now, Shao teaches at a university and brings the skill into her classes. “My students are very creative. They make packets in interesting shapes like Labubu. I can also get new ideas from them.” Shao said. She hopes people will use dogwood packets not just during Chongyang Festival, but every day.

Guards in their community carefully cut through metal objects and wooden boards to reach him with the help of a search dog. At last, the old man was saved.
Help came quickly. More than 175 fire and rescue volunteers rushed to the places in great danger, bringing special tools and dogs for finding people. 书面表达范文
Cultures connect us
Cross-cultural communication helps us see the colorful world and learn to understand different people. It breaks misunderstandings and brings people closer.
Last term, I met an exchange student. At first, we had different habits and ideas. We listened patiently to each other’s stories and shared our own festivals and food. Gradually, we became good friends.
From this experience, I learn that every culture is special. We don’t have to be the same, but we should respect each other. Different cultures connect us and make our life richer. We should always stay open-minded to people from different backgrounds.
