Have you ever heard of a flower that is bigger than a bicycle tire(轮胎)?If you visit the rainforests in countries like Malaysia,Thailand,or Indonesia, you might see one!It is called Rafflesia(大王花),and it has the largest single flower in the world.
This huge flower is usually reddish-orange or reddish-brown,with light spots(斑点) on it.It can grow more than one meter wide(宽)—that's as wide as a small door! And it can weigh as much as 10 kilograms.
But Rafflesia is not like most flowers you see in a garden. It has no green leaves,no stems(茎),and no roots(根).So it cannot make its own food by using sunlight, like other plants do.How does it live?It grows on the vines(藤蔓) of another plant and takes food and water from it.
It takes many months for Rafflesia to grow a flower. But when the flower finally opens,it only stays fresh for 4 to 7 days. After that,it quickly turns black and withers(凋谢).
This flower gives off a smell(气味) like dead animals. You may think it's terrible, but for Rafflesia, this smell is very useful. The bad smell attracts(吸引) flies. When the flies come to visit, they carry pollen from one Rafflesia flower to another. Also, the terrible smell keeps animals away,so they won't eat the flower.
In some countries like Thailand, people eat Rafflesia flowers as a kind of food, and also use them as medicine. Some believe that a special drink made from the flower can treat fevers or backaches(发烧和头疼).
Sadly,Rafflesia flowers are becoming very rare(稀有的) today.Their forest homes are being cut down for farming, building roads, and tourism. Some kinds of Rafflesia may even disappear forever. That is why it is now more important than ever to protect their rainforest homes. After all, such a strange and wonderful flower needs a safe place to live in!

Milk tea in ancient China
Believe it or not, milk tea isn't new at all in China! Its story goes back over a thousand years.
In ancient China, milk came mostly from the northern pastoral areas (牧区),while tea was grown mainly in the southern mountains.Overtime, trade (贸易) and cultural communication brought them together.
During the Sui and Tang dynasties(朝代),many dairy(奶制的) products were introduced into the Central Plains(引入中原).When making tea, people in the palace or upper class began adding su,a fermented dairy product(发酵的乳制品),to create a special taste.
During the Yuan Dynasty, milk tea became widely (广泛地) popular and was a part of the daily lives of common people. You could even find it for sale in the tea houses.Unlike the sweet milk tea we drink today, the milk tea in ancient times was mainly salty. For many northern ethnic(民族的)groups,it helped digest(消化) meat and had vitamins(维生素).
In the Qing Dynasty, milk tea was not just a drink but part of important court rituals (宫廷仪式).The palace even had a special office to make milk tea with its own cows and spring water. The emperors would award(赏赐) milk tea to their officials after important events.Of all the emperors, can you guess who was a big fan of milk tea?It was Emperor Qianlong! He enjoyed milk tea so much that he even wrote a poem(诗) to praise it.
