Have you ever heard of a plant that can eat insects The Venus Flytrap (捕蝇草) is one of them. It is a very amazing plant that lives in wetlands in the southeastern United States.
The Venus Flytrap has special leaves. Each leaf has two parts, and there are small hairs on the inside. When an insect lands on the leaf and touches the hairs twice, the two parts of the leaf close quickly, trapping (困住) the insect inside. Then, the plant produces (生产) a liquid (液体) to digest (消化) the insect. It takes about 10 days for the plant to finish digesting the insect, and then the leaf opens again to wait for the next insect.
Why does the Venus Flytrap eat insects Because the soil (土壤) in the wetlands where it grows is very poor in nutrients (营养). Insects are a good source (来源) of nitrogen (氮), which the plant needs to grow. So, eating insects helps the Venus Flytrap live in a difficult environment (环境).
However, the Venus Flytrap is not easy to grow. It needs a lot of sunlight and water, and the soil must be wet and acidic (酸性的). Also, it can’t eat too many insects — If it eats more than three insects a month, the leaf will die. Now, because of few habitats (栖息地) and over-collection (过度采集), the Venus Flytrap is in danger. Many people are working hard to protect this amazing plant.
If you want to learn more about the Venus Flytrap, you can read books about amazing plants or search for information online. It’s really interesting to know about such a special plant!

32.How does the Venus Flytrap trap insects
A. Its leaves use liquid to trap insects.
B. Its leaves produce a strange smell to trap insects.
C. Its leaves can pull insects into the soil and kill them.
D. Its leaves close quickly when insects touch hairs twice.
33.Why does the Venus Flytrap eat insects
A. Because insects are bad for it.
B. Because it likes the taste of insects.
C. Because it needs nitrogen from insects.
D. Because it wants to protect other plants.
34.What will happen if the Venus Flytrap eats more than three insects a month
A. The leaf will die. B. It will grow faster.
C. It will produce more leaves. D. It will move to a new place.

36.In some countries, such as the UK and the US, it is common for students to take “a gap year (间隔年) ”— a year off between finishing high school and starting university. During this time, they don’t study in classrooms. Instead, they might travel to different countries to experience different kinds of cultures, do volunteer (志愿者) work in poor areas to help those in need, learn skills like cooking or taking photos, or take a part-time job (兼职工作) in a local shop to make money.
The goal of a gap year is to get real-world experiences. Students can’t learn these experiences from textbooks and school. During the gap year, they can search for personal interests and become more mature (成熟的) and independent (独立的) before going to university.
Some people say a well-planned gap year helps students understand themselves better. For example, a student who volunteers in a hospital may find a passion (热情) for medical development before they start university studies.
However, others worry that students may lose their long-developed study habits if they stop learning for a year. They may fall behind their peers (同龄人) , or waste time without a clear plan.
The key to a successful gap year is careful planning. Students should set clear goals, such as “learning French in six months” or “getting 200 hours of volunteer experience”. In fact, a gap year is not just a long holiday. It’s a well-planned time for personal growth (成长) that prepares students better for their future lives.
