Summer presents a collection of festivals that combine fun, charity, and awareness. Here are four special celebrations happening in June:
National Go Barefoot Day (June 1)
Established after the 2004 tsunami, this day promotes barefoot walking for health benefits like stronger muscles while supporting Soles4Souls, a non-profit that has provided 19 million shoes globally. You can join barefoot activities or organize shoe collections. By simply taking off your shoes, you can improve your own health while helping children get the shoes they need.
World Oceans Day (June 8)
Oceans cover 66% of Earth and provide 50% of our oxygen, yet 8 million tons of plastic waste pollute them yearly. This day honors the ocean’s irreplaceable roles while inspiring worldwide participation. People can get involved by cleaning beaches, reducing single-use plastics, and watching educational films — turning awareness into action for a healthier planet.
Be a Kid Again Day (June 12)
This lighthearted day encourages adults to relive childhood joys — whether sliding down playground slides, building sandcastles, or rewatched classic kids’ movies. Beyond personal enjoyment, the celebration also supports meaningful causes like A Kid Again, a US non-profit organization that provides fun-filled adventures for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Helen Keller Day (June 27)
Held every year on June 27, this day honors Helen Keller (1880-1968) who became the first person with her disabilities to earn a college degree and wrote 12 books. While celebrating her amazing life, the day also recognizes all those who support the blind and deaf community through events like charity fashion shows and public readings of Keller’s inspirational works.
21 . Which festival combines physical health with caring for children

The Unseen Guardians: How Bats Shape Our Ecosystems
Bats, often misunderstood and feared, are in fact irreplaceable guardians of global ecosystems. Representing over 20% of all mammal species, their roles are as diverse as they are critical. The vast majority are insect-eaters, acting as nature’s pest control. A single little brown bat can consume up to 1,000 mosquito-sized insects in one hour, protecting crops and reducing disease transmission.
In tropical and desert regions, nectar-feeding bats are vital pollinators (授粉者) for over 500 plant species, including agave — the source of tequila (龙舌兰酒) and many fruits. Meanwhile, fruit bats are important seed dispersers; they swallow seeds while eating fruit and deposit them far from the parent tree, aiding forest regeneration across cleared lands.
However, these guardians face an uncertain future. Habitat loss due to deforestation, disturbance of resting sites, and widespread pesticide (杀虫剂) use that destroys most of their insect food are severe threats. A devastating fungal disease called White-nose Syndrome has killed millions of bats in North America since 2006. Furthermore, slow reproduction rates (most species have only one baby bat per year) slow down population recovery.
Conservation efforts are many-sided. Protecting crucial habitats like caves and forests is fundamental. Installing “bat boxes” provides alternative roosts (栖息处). Public education campaigns aim to dispel myths and highlight bats’ benefits, turning fear into appreciation. Scientists are also studying bat immune systems, which may hold clues for combating diseases like White-Nose Syndrome.
The survival of these unseen guardians is not just about saving bats; it’s about preserving the complex balance of the ecosystems that sustain us all.
24 . What is the main purpose of the first two paragraphs
A . To list all the bat species facing extinction.
B . To compare different conservation strategies for bats.
C . To explain the crucial ecological roles played by bats.
D . To describe the major threats to bat populations worldwide.
25 . What does the underlined word “dispersers” mean in Para. 2
A . Animals mainly feeding on fruit and seeds.
B . Creatures spreading infectious diseases between plants.
C . Creatures helping forests expand through scattering seeds.
D . Animals being fond of collecting small items for the young.
26 . According to the text, which is mentioned as a direct threat to bats
A . Reduced food supply due to pesticides.
B . Illegal hunting for commercial purposes.
C . Decrease in natural water sources for drinking.
D . Destruction of bat migration routes by strong winds.
27 . What can be inferred from the text about bat conservation
A . It relies simply on government actions and strict laws.
B . It focuses mainly on breeding programs to increase their numbers.
C . It has been so successful that most bat species are no longer endangered.
D . It involves both physical protection and the change of human perceptions.
C
Winter is over, so chances are you’re ready for some major spring cleaning or cleansing. Whether you plan to clean your bedroom or wipe the windows, don’t forget to tidy up the kitchen! According to a study, a messy cooking space can lead to overeating.
As part of the study, 101 female students were put in standard kitchen and messy kitchen environments and were asked to write about a time when they felt in control or out of control. Next, they were given cookies, crackers and carrots. Students in the “messy kitchen” who wrote about feeling out of control ate about twice as many cookies as the people in the in-control situation.
The researchers found that a messy environment can actually make people more likely to eat unhealthy foods, but the person’s mindset (思维倾向) within that environment can either trigger or protect against overeating. In the messy kitchen, women who wrote about a time when they felt in control consumed fewer cookie calories than the women who wrote about being out of control.
As the researchers pointed out, our mindset affects whether we will overeat unhealthy foods while in a messy kitchen. If we go into the kitchen with an “in-control” attitude, we might not eat as many cookies. But then again, why not try out cleaning up the kitchen and see what it does
Everything that feeds you doesn’t come on a plate such as your relationships, physical activity, and spirituality. Your home environment is also a big part of that nourishment (营养). So whether you tidy up your kitchen or your living room, paying attention to your living space (just like your diet!) can have a positive effect on health.
28 . Why were the students asked to write if they were feeling in control or not
A . To make them stay long in the kitchen.
B . To see the effect of the mindset on eating.
C . To learn if they could choose the right amount of food to eat.
D . To find out the relationship between the environment and mindsets.
29 . What does the underlined word “trigger” in paragraph 3 mean
A . Break up.
B . Hold back.
C . Set off.
D . Depend on.
30 . What suggestion does the author give
A . Keeping your living space clean.
B . Staying away from unhealthy food.
C . Finding suitable ways to stay healthy.
D . Protecting yourself against overeating.
31 . The passage is probably taken from a(n) ______.
A . news story
B . research report
C . government document
D . advertisement
D
When I lectured Lao Zi at universities in the West, one of the most difficult things was to explain the concept of Dao to my students, given its ubiquitous and yet invisible nature. However, it may not be that difficult if we can relate it to some of the fundamentals in modern physics.
Lao Zi assumed: “All things in the cosmos are generated from being and being arises from non-being; Dao produces one, one produces two, two produce three and three produce everything on earth”. Stephen Hawking has theorized that time began with the Big Bang, originating from nothing. According to the theory of modern quantum cosmology (量子宇宙学), the observable universe is in that empty space where energy is at its lowest state, defined as a “constant quantity”.
Also, Lao Zi said, “All things under heaven are controlled by Dao, in the same way as all streams and torrents flow to rivers and seas”. By gathering in the sea, all rivers actually make a “field of Dao”, where energy at high levels will naturally fill the void (lowest state), which is very much like a vacuum cavity (真空场) in modern quantum field theory. This vacuum is actually full of passing virtual particle (粒子) pairs. These particles are hardly detectable even with the most delicate instruments, according to the “uncertainty principle” proposed by Heisenberg.
In this way, the “something” and “all things in the cosmos” described by Lao Zi can also be seen as equivalent (等价物) to physical particles in modern physics. “Dao produces one” is actually little more than climbing transformation, symbolized by “two” and “three” as materialized structures at more complex levels. Lao Zi’s natural cosmology happens to hold the same view as the fundamental summary of the origin of the cosmos described by modern cosmology and physics. On 1st February 2003, NASA announced that the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) had found that most materials detected had so far been “dark” or “vacuum” energy, which further strengthens the scientific foundation for convincing interpretations of the ideas of Dao and Wu in Daoist philosophy.
32 . Which of the following is closest to the meaning of the underlined word “ubiquitous”
A . Available anytime.
B . Constantly encountered.
C . Everywhere at once.
D . Hardly understood
33 . Which is the rhetorical device the author uses in paragraph 3
A . Simile.
B . Personification.
C . Repetition.
D . Metaphor.
34 . What is the purpose of NASA’s announcement in the last paragraph
A . To exhibit the achievement of humans’ space exploration.
B . To prove Lao Zi’s earliest discovery of physical particles.
C . To present evidence of the link between Dao and modern physics.
D . To argue against Lao Zi’s Daoism with the latest scientific development.
35 . What can be a suitable title for this passage
A . Dao and Physics.
B . Lao Zi and Stephen Hawking.
C . Interpretations of Quantum Cosmology.
D . The Uncertainty Principle by Heisenberg.

67 .阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Bear was not a bear. She was a big dog on the Perkinses' family farm,a woolly creature with floppy ears and paws like bedroom slippers. She protected the ducks and chickens from being eaten by foxes and raccoons (浣熊).
She guarded the children as well, watching over them as closely as she did the chickens and ducks. In winter the dog ran alongside the children as they sled (滑雪橇) down snowy hills. In summer she swam with them in a nearby river.
Bear belonged to a breed (品种) that had long been used by Atlantic fishermen to help with their work, and it had a keen instinct for water rescue. When the children were in the river, the dog would swim in circles around them, barking when she felt they went out too far. She was the perfect farm dog——comp anion, guardian, protector.
The dog's favorite among the three children was three-year-old little Mike. They often curled up together. Sometimes Bear would doze while Mike pretended to read to her. Often both were sound asleep,a tangle of dark fur, blond hair, small hands and huge paws. At bedtime, Mike saved his last hug for Bear, his“best friend”
On a cold winter day, when their parents went out to send a parcel, eight-year-old Martha, seven-year-oldSara and Mike, went to slide on the frozen pond of their farm. Shouting happily, they slid back and forth, their boots gliding easily across the ice. They laughed as they watched Bear's attempts to stop suddenly, which would instead send her skidding beyond them. Then, tired, the three sat down on the ice, with Bear beside them. Suddenly the ice gave way under their combined weight.
As Bear jumped for shore, the three children fell into the freezing cold water. Screaming, Martha and Sarah struggled to find footing on rocks underwater. Branches from a tree nearby provided handholds, and using every bit of their strength, the two girls pulled themselves to shore.
注意: (1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Dear Peter,
I'm excited to tell you about a recent Intangible Cultural Heritage activity in our school.
We learned paper-cutting in the activity. Our teacher showed us various classic patterns like flowers and animals, then taught us basic cutting skills step by step. I carefully folded red paper and cut out a lovely rabbit pattern.
This experience impressed me deeply. Paper-cutting is full of Chinese beauty and wisdom. I truly fall in love with this traditional art.
Yours,
Li Hua

Paragraph 1: Looking back, they saw little Mike holding on to a broken chunk ice, unable to crawl onto it. The cold water made Mike tremble violently, and he cried for help loudly. Martha and Sarah were extremely anxious, yet they dared not step back onto the thin ice, fearing the ice would break again. They shouted to Mike to hold tight and tried to reach him with long branches, but the distance was too far to touch him. They felt helpless and almost burst into tears.
Paragraph 2: Seeing that, Bear let out a series of woofs and jumped into the water; heading straight for Mike. She swam quickly against the icy current and soon reached Mike. Bear gently pushed Mike’s body with her strong head, letting Mike grab her thick fur tightly. She swam slowly toward the bank with all her strength. Finally, Martha and Sarah pulled Mike and Bear onto the shore. The whole family was grateful for Bear’s brave rescue, and Bear became the whole farm’s hero.
