Dongzhi is one of the traditional festivals in China.
1. Dongzhi is one of the 24 solar terms（节气）in China. It's usually on or around December 22nd every year. It's a time for the family to get together just like the Spring Festival.
2. In the Han Dynasty, there was a famous doctor, Zhang Zhongjing. Around the time of Dongzhi, he saw people on the street with frostbit-ten（冻伤的）ears. So he made jiaozi to help people keep warm. And the jiaozi also looked like ears. From then on, it became a tradition to eat jiaozi on Dongzhi.
3. There are many activities on this day. In the north（北方）of China, people eat jiaozi. In the south of China, people eat tangyuan, because the round tangyuan means family getting together.
