Less Crowds, More Beauty
The Grand Canyon welcomed 4.9 million visitors in 2024. But there is somewhere
equally breathtaking with far fewer crowds. It’s called Coconino National Forest,
stretching across nearly 2 million acres between Phoenix and Flagstaff.
How to Get There
Getting there is easy. Fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and drive
1.5 hours north via Interstate 17. Or fly to Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, served by
American Airlines with daily flights from Phoenix, Dallas, and Los Angeles.
From there, the forest is just a 20-minute drive.
About the Forest
Named after the Cohonina people, the forest was designated a national forest by
President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908. Today, its three districts protect 10
wilderness areas home to elk, mule deer, mountain lions, and bobcats.

Three years ago, I volunteered for a program called SunnyBlue, which works with
people with autism (自闭症 ). When I signed up to help with this program, my
mind viewed it as some kind of “easy” way to get community service hours. I saw
myself as not much more than an extra set of hands. But that changed once I
试卷第 1页,共 3页
stepped onto the badminton court.
On both sides of the net, I got to know the participants individually. I learned to
love their personalities and the excitement they brought with each swing of the
racket (球拍 ). One of these moments was enabling a player with autism to
become a real part of the group. I watched the group grow in confidence, their
smile getting wider with every rally (往返拍击). At that moment, I realized my
position wasn’t just about helping everything go smoothly; I was part of providing
a safe place for them to express themselves and to encourage confidence in who
they were.
After that, I continued as an active SunnyBlue member, always focusing on
serving individuals with autism. We held events like the meet-and-greet with our
local police and autistic(患自闭症的) kids’ families. These events helped police
and families understand each other better. People in our city learned more about
autism and started to care for these kids. Today, my team and I have grown the
organization into a total of 15 volunteers who work hard to improve the lives of
individuals with autism and increase awareness about the disorder in our
community.
Through my journey at SunnyBlue, I have learned that the difference we make
may be small, but it grows even more with every single person we reach and
every connection we go out of our way to make. Be it through coaching or
organizing events, I feel proud knowing that every action has helped create a
welcoming space where community members with autism can live well!
24.What happened when the author was on the badminton court
A.He discovered the hidden talents of all the players.
B.He played badminton excitedly and professionally.
C.He realized the true value of his role in the program.
D.He managed to cure a player’s autism through sports.
25.Why was the event “meet-and-greet” held
A.To raise money for the SunnyBlue program.
B.To deepen understanding among different groups.
C.To build connections between police and volunteers.
D.To introduce new members of the SunnyBlue program.
26.What kind of person is the author
A.Caring and responsible. B.Curious and determined.
试卷第 1页,共 3页
C.Humorous and energetic. D.Respectful and independent.
27.What does the author think of his experience at SunnyBlue
A.Interesting. B.Rewarding. C.Demanding. D.Embarrassing.

When I was ten years old, I went to the US to visit some family friends. We
travelled all the way from California to Las Vegas. I noticed something funny
about the way everyone spoke English. I was thinking, “This is the way they
speak in films!”
At the beginning of the holiday, one of my friends asked me if I wanted to order
“French fries.” I couldn’t imagine what French fries were. What was fried and
French ! Snails Cheese She was amazed that I had never tried them and she
ordered a portion for us to share. When the waiter brought us some chips, I asked
her where the French fries were. She pointed to the plate of chips! Later that week
she said she was going to buy some “chips” from the supermarket. She came out
with a packet of crisps!
During that holiday we were also offered “biscuits and gravy” with our lunch.
This was a very strange idea to me, because in England biscuits are sweet. Gravy
is a salty, meat-based sauce. I later realized that “biscuits” in America are savoury
snacks. What we call “biscuits,” they call “cookies.”
One day, I saw an “eggplant” pizza on the menu in a restaurant! Eggs do not grow
on plants, I thought. What on earth could an “eggplant” be Something eggy and
leafy My dad ordered this pizza and it was covered in aubergines. I asked him
where the “eggplant” was. He laughed and pointed to the aubergines. He told me,
“They call this ‘eggplant’ in America!”
Although the same “language” may be spoken in different countries, there are
likely to be many differences, not just in vocabulary but also in spelling, grammar
and pronunciation! I think part of the excitement of learning a language is
discovering the differences in how it is spoken in different places.
28. What can we learn from paragraph 2
A. Holiday is a good time to relax. B. French fries are popular worldwide.
C. The waiter provided poor service. D. Chips and crisps are the same food.
29. Where does the author most probably come from
A. America. B. France. C. England. D. Italy.
30. How did the author feel when seeing an “eggplant” pizza on the menu
试卷第 1页,共 3页
A. Excited. B. Regretful. C. Anxious. D. Confused.
31. What is the text mainly about
A. Advantages of travelling. B. High-end restaurants.
C. Food and tradition. D. Cross-cultural misunderstanding.

January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI
called DeepSeek-R1, which has emerged as a pioneer especially in educational
technology. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer
questions like top models such as OpenAI's GPT-40, but it costs much less to
build. It combines advanced machine learning methods to provide personalized
learning solutions for students worldwide.
Unlike traditional AI models that rely on pre-programed answers,
Deepseek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students
practise maths. DeepSeek-R1 improves by itself by using reinforcement(强化 )
learning to simulate(模拟 ) human reasoning. This allows it to guide students
through problem-solving step by step, much like a patient tutor. For example,
when a student struggles with a math equation, DeepSeek-R1 doesn't just give the
answer. It breaks down the logic, identifies errors, and encourages critical
thinking.
The model's applications extend beyond academics(学业) . In language
learning, it analyzes students' pronunciation through AI speech recognition and
offers real-time response. For teachers, DeepSeek-R1 can provide lesson plans
that agree with curriculum standards and even predict students' learning
difficulties based on historical data. Its "adaptive testing" feature creates
customized exams that adjust difficulty according to individual progress.
However, challenges remain. Articles agree that over-reliance on AI might
reduce human interaction in education. DeepSeek's developers address this by
emphasizing its role as "supplement(补充 ), not a replacement." As Dr. Li, a
DeepSeek researcher, stated, "Our goal is to free teachers from repetitive tasks so
they can focus on inspiring creativity."
Looking ahead, DeepSeek aims to bring virtual reality(VR) into its platform,
allowing students to explore historical events or scientific concepts in immersive
3D environments. While ethical(道德的) debates about AI in education still exist,
one thing is clear: tools like DeepSeek are reshaping how we learn, combining
试卷第 1页,共 3页
technology with human wisdom.
32. What makes DeepSeek-R1 different from traditional AI models
A. It uses pre-proxmed anawers.
B. It focuses on memorization techniques.
C. It creates fixed test patterns for all the students.
D. It employs reinforcement learning for reasoning.
33. What does the underlined word "adaptive" in paragraph 3 most likely mean
A. Fixed B. adjustable C. complex D. outdated
34. What future development does DeepSeek plan to add to its platform
A. Real-time response to strengthen real-time classroom interaction.
B. Virtual reality(VR) to enable immersive learning experiences.
C. Advanced robotics to assist in repetitive tasks.
D. New technology to secure student data.
35. What's the author's attitude towards the use of DePSeek-R1
A. Doubtful B. critical C. positive D. indifferent

A dangerous heat wave is sweeping much of the central and eastern United
States this week, sending temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (华氏度 ).
While many people have heard about the risk of heat stroke, experts say that
extreme heat can affect almost every part of your body. 36
Watch out for brain fog.
Heat can make the brain work slower, which weakens our reaction speed,
attention and memory. That can mean performing worse on tests and having
trouble concentrating at work. 37 Researchers have observed more
road anger episodes and violent crimes occur when temperatures rise. Experts
believe your brain might be more focused on staying cool than thinking clearly.
Make a plan to stay cool.
3 8 If you don’t have air-conditioning, it’s smart to take steps like closing the
shades, immersing your feet in cold water and wrapping a damp towel with
crushed ice around your neck. If you need to go outside, consider carrying an
umbrella, and a water bottle with ice. Taking regular breaks indoors can also help
prevent heat-related illnesses.

Eat your water.
Water, milk and coconut water are the best options to maintain fluid intake. Your
body gets about 20 percent of its water from food. 39 Experts suggest
avoiding the use of your stove during heat waves, making salads and cold soups
instead. Avoid alcohol and limit coffee because they can increase fluid loss.
40
Temperature is crucial for good sleep, with experts recommending 65 to 68
degrees Fahrenheit. Extreme heat can make it harder to fall and stay asleep,
leaving you feeling weak. Use air-conditioners and fans, or cool down by taking a
cold shower or chilling your pillowcase before going to bed.
A.Adjust your exercise routine.
B.Cool down before you lie down.
C.Beating the heatcan be an all-day challenge.
D.Here is what to know, and how to stay safe.
E.Dry heat, meanwhile, can slow down sweat production.
F.Vegetables are among the foods with highest water content.
G.The heat can also make people more annoyed and aggressive.

sister Belle. “Yes, it is going to be celebrated on June 16 this year. Yesterday my
friend and I were talking about it,” Belle replied. “Do you have any idea about
how we should celebrate this day and make it memorable for Dad ” Fred asked.
“Hmm... I was thinking about it too and have some ideas,” Belle answered
excitedly.

we are wondering about how to celebrate Father’s Day,” Belle said. “Oh, I am
surprised you kids can remember the day! Well, I am thinking of cooking some
favorite dishes for your father. You both should think of ways to decorate the
house beautifully,” Mum said.
“That would be great!” said Belle and Fred together. Both of them got up smiling,
thinking of hundreds of ways to celebrate Father’s Day. Mum went to the kitchen,
and Belle and Fred started doing their homework. But soon Fred noticed Belle
deep in thought so he asked what the matter was. “Fred, I am thinking that our
parents do everything for us but they demand nothing from us. Isn’t it bad that we
never think about them and are always concerned about our needs ” Belle replied.
“Sometimes we are so busy with our lives that we don’t pay proper attention to
our parents. We should listen to whatever they say properly and answer them. We
must also study hard to get good grades,” Fred said.
The next day, all three of them, Belle, Fred and their mum, got busy preparing
their surprise celebration for Father’s Day. Belle drew a family picture with her

71.One possible version:
A Meaningful Voluntary Activity
On the morning of May Day, our class organized class members for voluntary services at a
local community nearby.
Full preparations had been made before carrying out this activity. On arrival, students were
divided into groups with different tasks. Some helped to beautify the environment by sweeping
the floors, watering the plants and keeping everything in order. Others accompanied elderly
people, who told students their life experiences. We also shared with them our interesting school
life. At the end of the day, while we were about to leave, the people there expressed their thanks
and praised us for what we had done.
This is a rewarding arrangement and we all hope that we can have more opportunities to
serve our society.
72.One possible version:
Fred and Belle were both expecting the special day. Finally, when Father’s day came, both Fred
and Belle came home from school quickly and started decorating the house. Fred cleaned the
living room and continued with the decoration, putting up the colorful balloons and presenting
the birthday cake. At the same time, Belle took out the family picture. They were about to
practice singing the poem when the delicious smell came from the kitchen. Surely, it was Mom
that prepared the big meal. French toast and chicken porridge, both of which were father’s
favorite foods, were ready. Eventually, everything was settled. Fred and Belle stood beside the
door, waiting for their father eagerly. Then Dad came in.
Fred and Belle were very excited to see their father. They cried out together, “Happy Father’s
Day!” Hearing the words, so glad was Dad that his face lit up. “We have a surprise for you!”
added Fred, pointing at the decorations. When he saw the dinner, his eyes widened and twinkled
with excitement. He couldn’t help tasting a bit of the chicken soup, explaining that it was the best
dish he had ever had. Mom smiled heartily and exchanged a gentle glance with Fred and Belle.
What a beautiful and sweet surprise! The room was filled with happiness.
