We arrived at the museum at 8 a.m. Before starting work, the museum workers gave us a short training. We needed to show visitors around halls, help kids try science machines and keep order. At first, I felt a little nervous because I worried I could not answer visitors’ questions. Soon I calmed down and got ready for work.
Lots of parents and children visited the museum that day. Many kids were interested in funny science exhibits. I patiently told them simple science knowledge and helped them use the science machines safely. Sometimes I reminded children not to hit or break the exhibits. Once a small boy got lost, I took him to the service desk and helped him find his parents. The boy’s parents thanked me warmly.
We finished our volunteer work at 5 p.m. Though I was tired, I felt very proud and happy. I not only learned lots of new science knowledge outside textbooks but also improved my communication skills.

Dear Mike,
I’m very happy that you will come to China during your summer vacation. You asked me about Chinese customs.
When we meet new people, we usually shake hands and smile warmly. If you visit a Chinese family, you’d better take some small gifts like fruit or tea. At dinner, we use chopsticks and it’s rude to stick chopsticks upright in rice. We usually talk about daily life, travelling or delicious food instead of money.
I’m looking forward to your coming and I hope you will have a good time in China.
Yours,
Li Hua
