My Volunteer Experience
Last month, our teacher told us to take part in volunteer activities during the holiday. I chose to work at the city animal shelter for seven days. Before I went there, I thought it would be an easy job of playing with cute pets. When I arrived, I found everything was harder than I imagined.
There were over 80 cats and 50 dogs in the shelter. Most of them were lost or given up by their owners. My first work was cleaning their houses. The smell was terrible, and I had to wash food bowls one by one for two hours every morning. Then I fed small animals with special pet food. Some shy little dogs were afraid of people, I needed to stay with them quietly to make them trust me.
On the third day, a small white dog caught my eye. Its leg was hurt and it could not walk freely. I spent my break time staying with it every day. I brought soft blankets for it and fed it warm milk. Slowly, it stopped hiding from me and even jumped to my arms when it saw me.
On the last day of my volunteer work, a kind woman came to the shelter. She liked the white dog very much and decided to take it home. I felt so happy for the dog, but I also felt a little sad to say goodbye.
This special experience taught me a lot. Every animal needs love and care. Many people keep pets just for fun, but few of them know how to look after them patiently. If you want a pet, you must be ready to take full responsibility for its whole life. I plan to visit the animal shelter every vacation and do what I can to help those lovely animals.

Rules in Different Countries’ Schools
Every school has its own rules to keep order and help students grow well. But school rules are quite different in different countries. Here are three examples from foreign middle schools.
Japan
Japanese students have strict daily rules. They must wear school uniforms every school day, and no colorful hair or strange haircuts. Students have to clean their own classrooms, hallways and even school gardens after class. There is no cleaning worker in most Japanese schools. Students also can’t bring snacks or mobile phones to school. During lunchtime, all students eat simple school meals together in classrooms. They can’t talk loudly while eating. Teachers hope students learn self-management through these small rules.
Germany
German schools pay much attention to students’ freedom and respect. Students don’t need school uniforms. They can wear clean and comfortable clothes they like. But they have one strict rule: they must be polite to every teacher and classmate. If students are late for class more than three times a month, they need to write a self-criticism letter to the head teacher. Another special rule: students can’t bring any sweet drinks to school, because schools want them to keep healthy drinking habits.
Canada
Canadian schools are relaxing but clear about safety rules. Mobile phones are allowed at school, but students must turn them off during classes. If students break this rule, teachers will keep their phones until school ends. All students must take part in at least one after-school club, such as sports, painting or music clubs. Schools believe after-school activities help students develop different skills. Besides, fighting and lying are not allowed at any time. Anyone who breaks the rule will have a talk with school workers and their parents.

C.All schools make rules for students’ growth
D.All schools stop students from taking phones
10. Where can you read this passage
A.A story book for kids

Do you feel tired after long-time study Walking in parks, listening to soft music or growing small plants can help you relax easily. Growing houseplants is a great hobby for middle school students, and it brings lots of good changes to your life.
First, houseplants clean the air inside your room. They take in bad gases and give out fresh oxygen. If you study in a room with green plants, you will feel less sleepy, and your study efficiency will become better. Scientists say students with green plants in bedrooms sleep better at night.
Second, looking after plants teaches you patience and responsibility. Most plants need water once or twice a week. You have to remember to look after them on time. When you see small green leaves grow out from the soil, you will feel strong joy and achievement. It’s just like finishing a hard school project and getting good grades.
Third, taking care of plants helps you stay away from screen time. Many students spend too much time playing phone games or watching short videos every day. If you have plants at home, you will choose to watch them grow instead of touching screens all day. It’s a healthy way to rest your eyes and calm your busy mind.
If you are new to growing plants, you can start with easy ones such as green radish and succulents. They don’t need too much water or sunlight, and they are hard to die. You can put them on your desk beside textbooks. Little by little, you will fall in love with this quiet and warm hobby.

A.Plants need people to take care of them regularly.
B.Plants can grow fast without care.
C.Growing plants needs lots of money.
D.It takes little time to look after plants.
