World Environment Day is a special day for our planet. Do you know when it is It falls on June 5th every year. People all over the world celebrate it to show their love for the environment.
Why do we have this day In the past, many countries faced serious environmental problems. Factories produced too much pollution, forests got smaller, and some animals even disappeared. To solve these problems, the United Nations started World Environment Day in 1972. Its main job is to tell everyone to protect our earth and make it a better home.
People in different countries celebrate World Environment Day with interesting activities. In China, volunteers work together to clean streets and rivers, making cities cleaner. In New Zealand, many families and students plant trees in parks or near rivers. In some European countries, schools hold classes about sorting rubbish—they teach students to recycle paper, glass and plastic. These activities show that everyone can do something for the environment.
Protecting the environment is important for all of us. Our earth is the only home for humans, animals and plants. If we don’t care for it, we will have no fresh air or clean water. Even students can help! We can save water by turning off taps when brushing teeth, use cloth bags instead of plastic ones, and plant small trees in our gardens. Small actions can make a big difference. Let’s remember, World Environment Day is not just one day. It’s a reminder to love our earth every day!

Each country has different rules about social (社会的) situations. If you want to behave well when you have dinner in a Chinese family, there are some table manners you should pay attention to.
Usually, the bowl of rice is held with the left hand and brought close to the mouth while the rice is lifted into the mouth with the chopsticks, held in the right hand. One should not make any noise while eating the food. While waiting for the next dish, one should keep the chopsticks tidy on the chopstick rest and avoid crossing them or putting them on the rice bowl.
Whenever attending a wedding ceremony (典礼), one should bring a present packed in colorful gift paper or give a red packet. When invited to a Chinese New Year’s party, one should dress cheerfully and bring the hosts oranges and a New Year’s red packet for luck and good wishes.
When taking a drink of wine at a formal dinner, one must lift the wine first and toast (敬酒) another dinner guest. If one is asked to drink but he doesn’t wish it, he can simply touch his lips to the edge (边缘) of the glass to show the politeness.
The spoon should not be used at the same time as the chopsticks. Besides, toothpicks should not be used during the meal but rather at the end. Also, one should neither point at others with his chopsticks nor stick his chopsticks upright into his rice bowl. Both of them are considered very impolite.

Last Saturday, our class organized a charity activity to raise money for ORBIS. We decided to have a charity sale in the school playground.
We started preparing for the activity a week before. We divided into several groups. Some students collected old things from their homes. Others made posters to tell other students about the sale.
On Saturday morning, we arrived at school early. We set up tables and put all the things on them. There were books, toys, clothes and many other things. We also made some snacks to sell.
At 9 o’clock, the sale started. Many students and teachers came to buy things. They were very generous. Some students even brought their parents to the sale. Some people even gave us more money than the price of the things.
By 12 o’clock, we had sold most of the things. We counted the money and found that we had raised over 3,000 yuan. We were all very happy.
After the sale, we gave all the money to ORBIS. The teacher from ORBIS thanked us and told us that the money would be used to help children with eye problems.
