For most people, having something important stolen feels like a disaster. Robbie Pruitt admitted when his mountain bike was stolen last September, he got mad. But soon his emotions took a turn. After letting go of his anger, he found himself on a road to sympathy (同情) instead. As a biker, Pruitt’s first priority was to buy one again, but when he went bike shopping, he found the options limited. The shortage in supply got him thinking: What if the person who’d taken his bike had done so because he truly needed bikes to get to work
With that thought in mind, Pruitt came up with a plan and posted it to a local Facebook group. He offered to fix bikes free of charge for anyone who needed it. Pruitt also put out a call for bikes people don’t use, which he would repair — again for free — and then donate to people who could truly use them but didn’t have the budget to buy a bike.
The day the post was put out, Pruitt was excited about a list of 30 used bicycles. And this was followed by more than 500 posts from people who either had bikes to donate or that needed fixing soon after. By the end of the month, Pruitt had repaired more than 140 bikes for donation.
Pruitt tries to give his donations to struggling families. Beyond simply satisfying a material need, he has provided an opportunity for kids in his neighborhood to learn how to fix their own bikes.
In addition to practical skills, Pruitt’s lessons teach teamwork, encourage self-esteem, and develop feelings of community. “Pruitt is certainly providing a service, but it’s not the bikes. It’s the relationships in the community. It’s the impact he made on people. All the neighborhood kids are spending a lot more time doing something that’s in their power,” Pruitt’s next-door neighbor Danny told The Washington Post.
4. How did Pruitt feel after he went to the bike shop
A.He was angry at the theft.
B.He became eager for a new bike.
C.He would rather find his old bike.
D.He tried to put himself in the thief’s shoes.

Different cultures have various festivals, but the joy and eagerness are the same. For us adults, celebrations are a way of taking a break from heavy work, re-live past memories, and keeping traditions alive, but what about children
Well, for our kids, this is the perfect time to learn and enrich their lives with knowledge. At festivals, I remember, I introduced the value and importance of personal connections and cultural treasure to my kids while they were having fun. Child experts strongly suggest that parents tell their kids various rituals (仪式) of the festivals and have them join in celebratory activities.
I think every festival has a rich backstory, and every story has plenty of lessons and values to teach. Besides, historical and geographical background connected with festivals give reasons why we celebrate festivals with specific rituals.
Kids need to have a deep-rooted understanding of the identity (身份) of their culture and traditions. Because this not only helps in developing a positive sense of identity but also pushes kids to connect with their cultures through rituals, native decorations, food, etc., to keep continuity over generations. Thus, parents should make kids a central part of all festivals.
It is no secret that gifts bring joy and excitement to children. Every time I give gifts to my kids, I find the gifts excite their senses and make them feel valued. I must make my kids believe that their families care about their interests and desires. Thus, gifting is a meaningful way to express feelings to kids. What’s more, the act of giving and receiving gifts helps develop feelings of care and kindness.
8. What do festivals mean for children
A.A perfect time to have a rest.
B.A chance to increase knowledge.
C.A memory of their old days.
D.An effort to protect traditions.
9. Why should kids be “a central part of all festivals”
A.They enjoy festival backstories.
B.They love history and geography.
C.They must know who they are.
D.They can bring much happiness.
10. Who are the intended readers of the text
A.Kids.
B.Teachers.
C.Headmasters.
D.Parents.
11. What is a suitable title of the passage
A.Importance of Festivals in Kids’ Life
B.Parents' Role in Celebrating Festivals
C.Benefits of Festival Rituals to Kids
D.Principles of Kids' Love for Festivals

Making tough decisions is a part of life. Whether it’s choosing a university, changing a career path, or ending a friendship, these choices can leave us feeling confused. While there’s no magic formula, a thoughtful approach can make the process clearer and less stressful.
Firstly, give yourself a clear picture. ____12____ Write down all your options. Then, for each one, list the potential benefits and drawbacks. Seeing your thoughts on paper can prevent them from swirling endlessly in your mind and help you visualize the outcomes more objectively.
____13____ It’s easy to get caught up in what others expect from you — your parents, teachers, or friends. However, this decision is ultimately yours. Ask yourself: “What do I truly want What values are most important to me ” Aligning your choice with your own core values is key to long-term satisfaction.
Don’t underestimate the power of seeking different perspectives. ____14____ Talk to people you trust-mentors, family members, or friends who have faced similar dilemmas. They might offer insights or ask questions you haven’t considered, which can shed new light on your options.
Avoid making a quick choice. For significant decisions, if possible, allow yourself a specific period to reflect, like 24 or 48 hours. This creates necessary space between the impulse to decide and the final action. ____15____
Finally, remember that few decisions are truly ever lasting. ____16____ What seems like a perfect path today might need adjustment tomorrow. The goal is not to find the one “perfect” choice, but to make the best decision you can with the information and self-awareness you have at this moment.
A.Listen to your inner voice.
B.Gather as much information as you can.
C.Life is unpredictable and full of changes.
D.This doesn’t mean you should ignore advice.
E.Start by defining the decision you need to make.
F.We often fear making the “wrong” choice forever.
G.It prevents knee-jerk (本能的) reactions and often brings a sense of calm clarity.

六、阅读理解(任务型阅读)
阅读下列短文,完成文后的填空题和表达题。
I was born small, which often left me feeling unconfident. During my second year of high school, my family moved to a different city. Getting used to life as a new kid has always been difficult for me, and this move made it more challenging. In my new school, I felt physically and mentally uneasy. Other students had already built friendships, leaving me without a friend.
Besides, I found English learning boring and didn’t know what to do during English classes. So, I spent my free time drawing because that was what I usually did when I was alone.
I still recall the first day in the school dining hall. While waiting in line for food, I heard a group of students excitedly discussing an upcoming English drama show for freshmen. As I passed by, they glanced at me with surprise. “He looks so small,” someone said in a low voice. My face burned with embarrassment and I bent my head. Pretending not to hear them, I slipped into the farthest seat available and had my meal alone.
In my first English class, I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the book. The letters and words seemed to dance confusingly across the page and laugh at me. Losing interest quickly, I began drawing on the book. A few minutes later, my English teacher, Mr. Frank — a kind man — walked up to me.
“Nice drawing,” he said gently. “You know, language is also an art form; it carries its own charm and beauty. I believe you could find English attractive if you discover where to begin.”
