Digital Booklets: A New Way to Pass Folk Customs
Our school’s Folk Customs Festival asks groups to make digital booklets to introduce global folk traditions. This task does not only let us collect information but also helps us realize the value of folk culture.
Making a digital booklet has four clear steps. First, group members pick one type of folk custom that interests all people, such as folk costumes, folk dances or folk food customs. Next, team members search for reliable materials from museum websites, cultural magazines and official travel pages. We need to take clear notes, collect pictures or short video clips to enrich our work. Then, we organize all resources into different sections and design simple, beautiful pages for the booklet. The last step is to stand in front of classmates and introduce our chosen folk custom in a short presentation.
Many students used to think folk customs were old and boring, but this project changed their minds. When we look up Thai monkey fruit feasts or Italian orange battles, we find every custom has warm stories and deep meanings. Different traditions do not divide people; instead, they teach us to respect cultural differences.
Teachers say digital booklets are a great way to protect folk culture. Unlike paper posters, digital works can be saved online forever and shared with more people easily. Students can send their booklets to foreign pen pals and exchange cultural ideas.
As young learners, we have the duty to record and spread folk customs. Simple school projects like making digital booklets let us take small but useful action to keep our cultural treasures alive for future generations.

A. They think folk customs are hard to learn
B. They find folk customs interesting and meaningful
C. They believe foreign customs are better than local ones
D. They no longer want to take part in folk activities
32. What advantage do digital booklets have over paper works
A. They cost more money to finish B. They can be stored and shared online easily
C. They do not need any pictures or videos D. They only introduce Chinese folk customs
33. What is the writer’s main idea of the passage
A. Digital booklets help students learn and spread folk culture
B. Schools should hold more festivals for foreign students
C. Students must travel abroad to experience real folk customs
D. Old folk traditions will disappear without digital videos

The Lost Beauty of Sugar Painting
When I finished reading Li Bailing’s story about sugar painting, I felt deep worry about our disappearing folk arts. I decided to look for the sugar painting artist she talked about in the city park last weekend.
The park was full of people enjoying warm spring sunshine. After searching for nearly an hour, I finally ___34___ the small wooden table with sugar painting tools beside the lake. The grey-haired old artist sat there quietly, with almost no customers around him.
He told me that when he was young, crowds of children would wait in line for a sugar painting. But now, most kids prefer cartoon toys and online games. Few of them stop to watch his craft, let alone ___35___ time to learn it. Every year, only one or two teenagers come to ask about learning sugar painting, and most give up soon because the skill requires long hours of practice.
Sugar painting is more than a street snack. It is a precious folk art that carries Chinese traditional symbols. Fish shapes stand for surplus, dragons stand for good luck, and peonies stand for wealth. Each shape has hidden warm wishes that our ancestors ___36___ hundreds of years ago. If this skill disappears, we will lose a special way to show our cultural ___37___.
The old artist does not give up easily. Every weekend, he invites students from nearby schools to try sugar painting for free. He hopes these young visitors can fall in love with this folk craft and pass it on. Some students take photos and post them online, which helps more people ___38___ this dying art.
I bought a sugar painting carp before leaving. Holding the sweet artwork, I realized folk customs are a silent bridge ___39___ our past and present. We cannot just watch traditional arts fade away.
I planned to write a complete story about sugar painting for our school’s writing competition. I hope my words can ___40___ more teenagers to care about folk arts. Every young person should take small actions to save our cultural treasures and hand them down to the next ___41___.

Three Global Folk Events Worth Knowing
There are many amazing folk events all over the world, each with unique stories and cultural meanings. Three of the most famous ones come from Scotland, Italy and Thailand.
The Burryman Day in South Queensferry, Scotland, has a history of hundreds of years. It falls on the second Friday every August. During the ceremony, a local man is covered with sticky burr plants and walks a seven-mile road through the whole town. Villagers offer him food and drinks along the way. People believe this tradition can bring good harvest and healthy children to the town. Until now, no clear historical record tells the exact origin of this strange custom.
The Battle of the Oranges in Ivrea, Italy, is the biggest food fight activity in Europe. It comes from an ancient fight between local common people and cruel rulers almost one thousand years ago. The activity is held at the end of Ivrea Carnival, from Sunday to Tuesday. Nine teams take part in the orange fight. They throw fresh oranges at each other to remember the brave fight of their ancestors. Thousands of visitors come to watch this exciting folk event every year.
The Monkey Fruit Feast in Lopburi, Thailand, takes place every November. Local long-tailed monkeys live around ancient temples in this province. Local people prepare about two tons of fresh fruits like mangoes, bananas and coconuts for monkeys to enjoy. Tourists from all over the world travel here to watch the monkey feast. This folk activity greatly pushes the local tourism and helps improve the town’s economy.
All these folk events show that different countries have special ways to record history and wish for good luck. Learning about foreign folk events helps us understand cultural differences and build better communication with people from other countries.

A digital booklet of folk customs
Last week, our group finished a digital booklet about folk dances from all over the world for the school Folk Customs Festival.
First, we agreed to choose folk dances as our topic. We searched museum websites and cultural videos to collect information about Haka from New Zealand, Chinese lion dances and European midsummer dances. We took clear notes and picked lively pictures and short dance clips for our booklet. Then we divided work to design each page, adding simple introductions of each dance’s history and meanings. At last, one of our group members gave a presentation to introduce our booklet to the whole class.
This project taught me a lot. Folk dances carry the history and spirit of different nations. Many traditional dances are at risk of being forgotten. Digital booklets let us record these precious folk customs and share them online easily. I hope more teenagers will use such ways to pass on our wonderful folk culture and respect traditions from every corner of the world.
